Ancient Magic Altar?

Chapter 40

Ancient Magic Altar?

Firenze grabbed one leg of the eight-eyed giant spider, stepped on its body, then pulled hard, tearing off one of the spider's legs.
He placed the leg aside, took out some herbs from a small pouch at his hip, and sprinkled them over the eight-eyed giant spider's corpse.
"#@*?%&!*?%#@*%&!*?……"
Firenze sang an ancient, melancholic melody, raising his hands in one gesture after another, his feet continuously stamping the ground, creating strange yet melodious rhythms.
When he clasped his hands before his chest, then crossed them over his shoulders, a verdant magical energy field appeared, enveloping the spider's corpse.
Firenze suddenly knelt, prostrating himself on the ground, his forehead gently touching the earth, uttering a low, hoarse chant: "*?%#@*%&!*……"
The verdant magical energy field glowed brightly, rippling outwards in waves.
Each time a ripple spread to the ground, a part of the giant spider withered, until it completely disappeared, as if it had dissolved into the earth.
Just a moment later, a few young blades of grass sprouted from the mud, looking lush and full of vitality.
Firenze picked up the spider's leg, smiled, and waved at Wizette, signaling him to climb onto his back.
"We must go now; nature has cleansed a part of the eight-eyed giant spider's wickedness."
Wizette's understanding of centaurs primarily came from the book "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."
They were an incredibly intelligent magical species, yet the Ministry of Magic, based on some decree, classified centaur intelligence as "near human intelligence."
Upon learning this, the centaurs considered it a great insult from the Ministry of Magic, and wizards alike, towards them.
When the Ministry of Magic categorized magical creatures, they placed centaurs alongside vampires, hags, and merpeople under the definition of "beings."
Centaurs disdained being grouped with vampires and hags, and thus initiated protests, hoping to continue living as "beasts."
Regarding the introduction to centaurs, Newt Scamander left a meaningful comment:
The Ministry of Magic's arrogance has caused wizards and centaurs to grow increasingly distant. Now, centaurs retreat to live deep within the forests, becoming guardians of the woods; wizards, too, have paid the price, losing the opportunity to exchange a vast amount of magical knowledge regarding healing, prophecy, astronomy…
In short, due to historical reasons and the arrogant attitude of wizards, centaurs were not very friendly towards all humans.
Whether encountering wizards or Muggles, they would use their unique talents to actively avoid them.
However, Firenze, who was carrying Wizette at this moment, was clearly not that kind of "traditional" centaur.
Firenze talked a lot, but the content of his stories was quite whimsical.
He would stretch out a hand and point to an herb, gently introducing its uses;
Or look up at the gaps between the leaves, saying in a heavy tone, "Mars remains ever bright; this is not a good omen, do you understand?"
"Is the war coming to an end?" Wizette ventured.
Since ancient times, humans have had a habit of observing Mars, such as the "Ying Huo Shou Xin" phenomenon, which foretold the appearance of great chaos.
It could even be said that most civilizations, when observing astronomy, placed extreme importance on omens from Mars, viewing it as a symbol of disaster, war, death, and other misfortunes.
Firenze nodded, saying gently, "Indeed, very few wizards enjoy studying astronomy; their understanding of astronomy is even inferior to some Muggles."
Wizette asked, "Mr. Firenze, I actually have a question… Why were you there? Was it because you sensed the movements of the eight-eyed giant spider?"
"Of course not; we rarely set foot in the territory of the eight-eyed giant spiders." Firenze's voice held a hint of sorrow. "They have formed colonies, difficult to eradicate."
"Actually, I went there because a unicorn guided me. I could feel it telling me that someone on the other side of the forest needed help."
The two chatted idly, Firenze continuously introducing the diverse ecosystem of the Forbidden Forest.
Following Firenze's guidance, Wizette's understanding of the Forbidden Forest also grew deeper.
Just then, the map in his mind automatically opened, directing Wizette to look towards a nearby bush, where several moss-covered stone pillars stood tall.
Wizette quickly asked, "Mr. Firenze, what are those stone pillars?"
"Want to go see?" Firenze lifted his foot, bringing Wizette beside the stone pillars.
Only then did Wizette see clearly that this was an ancient altar.
The altar was assembled from many stone slabs, forming a sun pattern, surrounded by stone pillars like stars.
What caught his attention most was the center of the sun altar, where a spiral pattern ascended.
Firenze introduced, "This altar is extremely ancient; it probably existed since Hogwarts was founded."
Looking at the spiral pattern, Wizette felt the altar was related to ancient magic. "Mr. Firenze, if it's an altar… can it be used?"
Firenze sighed softly, somewhat hesitantly confirming, "You wish to use it?"
"Firenze! You have truly fallen!" A furious roar suddenly rang out. "You let a human ride on your back? Are you not ashamed? Do you not feel like a lowly mule?"
Another centaur leaped out from the bushes. He looked extremely robust, his fur all black, somewhat resembling a combination of a gorilla and a horse.
Firenze sighed softly, "Bane, why must you be so agitated?"
"I'm agitated?" Bane laughed in anger. "You let a wizard approach the altar, and even want him to use it? This is a betrayal of the centaurs!"
"Bane, you should know that these altars belong to wizards." Firenze's voice remained calm.
"Although we have always used them, you must admit one thing: these altars were created by wizards."
"You…" Bane's eyes flashed; he opened his mouth to argue. "In any case, I cannot let a mere foal defile the altar! You have betrayed fate!"
Firenze smiled faintly, "Wizette received the favor of a unicorn. When he was in danger, the unicorn itself told me to save him."
"If following a unicorn's guidance, going to save a child attacked by an Acromantula, is considered betraying fate… then I am indeed so!"
"Firenze, you dealt with an Acromantula?" Bane's eyes flashed. "Were you unharmed?"
"This child killed that spider. I merely arrived at the scene, then allowed the spider to return to nature."
"A foal dealing with an Acromantula? Even capable of killing it?"
Bane approached with a skeptical expression, circling Wizette again and again. "Are you truly a foal?"
"I'm a first-year student at Hogwarts," Wizette corrected. "That Acromantula wasn't fully grown either."
He gestured with his hands, "It was only about 1 meter tall… about three or four feet. I'd say I only managed to kill it by trickery."
Bane looked to the side for confirmation, "By Mercury! Is he telling the truth? Firenze?"
