Transmigrating to Ancient Times: A Farming Record

What Is This?

Chapter 22

What Is This?

No sooner said than done. The next day, Lin Ye began teaching Yang how to build a thatched cottage.

First, they prepared the necessary materials: wood, bamboo, dry grass, and various types of vines. Next was the construction.

This time, Yang did most of the heavy lifting while Lin Ye stood aside to guide him on what to do. Yang was much smarter than she had imagined; he understood many things after being told just once. Furthermore, building a thatched cottage wasn't very difficult, so Yang quickly learned how.

Looking at the room he had built with his own hands, Yang's heart was filled with a sense of accomplishment. Building a house wasn't that hard!

However, when he saw Lin Ye moving firewood into the thatched cottage, his eyes went blank.

"Lin Ye, why are you moving firewood in here?"

Lin Ye said naturally, "To store the firewood, of course. Otherwise, what if it rains and these bundles of wood get wet?"

"But, but!" Yang said with a hint of grievance, "This is the first room I built with my own hands!" He had wanted her to live here; how could it be used to store piles of firewood?

Lin Ye, however, didn't notice his sensitive male thoughts at all. She patted his shoulder and said, "Don't be so reluctant. You've already learned the technique. In the future, you can build as many rooms as you want!"

"Yeah!" Yang replied dejectedly.

Although it was just a kitchen and a woodshed, Lin Ye felt that since a new house had been built, they should celebrate a little. She said to Yang, "Let's celebrate tomorrow. We'll invite the Chief, Yun, Xing, and Shi over for dinner, so they can see our new place."

Yang loved hearing her refer to it as their new place, and the gloominess of his newly built room being turned into a woodshed instantly vanished. He said happily, "Alright, I'll prepare tomorrow and bring back more prey!"

Lin Ye cautioned, "Safety is the most important thing."

"I know!" Yang felt extremely cheerful, wishing he could turn into his beast form and roll around on the ground!

The next day, Yang went out to hunt. Lin Ye stayed in the thatched cottage and looked around. She found that other than a clay stove, there was nothing else in the kitchen, making it look rather empty. She decided to make a set of large tables and chairs for practice.

She chose bamboo as the raw material for the table. First, because bamboo grew quickly, and cutting it wouldn't cause much environmental damage. Second, compared to wood, bamboo could be used to make more things when tools were scarce!

Lin Ye first sawed the bamboo into tubes of appropriate lengths. She drilled several small holes in the tubes and used small bamboo pegs to thread through them, connecting the tubes. Finally, she assembled the bamboo tubes into a table frame using this method.

Once the frame was done, she had to make the tabletop, which was also made of bamboo. Lin Ye first split the bamboo into various strips, laid them across the table frame, and then secured them with vines. A bamboo table was thus completed.

The chairs were made using the same method. After finishing a set of table and chairs, Lin Ye looked at them and felt they even had a touch of elegant charm!

As night fell, the full moon hung high in the clear sky. Moonlight filtered through the gaps in the tree canopy, casting a bright silver glow onto the ground.

Yang brought his father, mother, Xing, and Shi to his cave. Yang's cave was slightly out of the way; unless someone went there on purpose, normally no one would pass by. Therefore, this was the first time they had seen the thatched cottage.

The moonlight clearly revealed the appearance of the thatched cottage. Looking at the two thatched structures in front of the cave, they all showed identical expressions of bewilderment.

What... what was this?

Seeing the shock on their faces, Yang felt an inexplicable sense of pride. Look, Lin Ye was so amazing; she could easily make something that would leave them astounded. He chose to forget that the first time he saw the thatched cottage, he had looked exactly like them.

Yang cleared his throat and said to them, "Come on in, Lin Ye is waiting for us inside."

The Chief and the others followed him into the thatched cottage in a daze. Upon entering, they found Lin Ye sitting on a neatly made bamboo object.

Seeing them enter, Lin Ye stood up to greet them. "You're here, please have a seat." She pulled out the chairs for them to sit. There were six of them in total, and the number of chairs she had made today was just right.

On the table was a set of bamboo cups and tubes she had made. She poured water from a bamboo tube into the cups. "Drink some water first."

They sat cautiously on the bamboo chairs, sizing up the thatched cottage with unfamiliarity. Although Yang was already very familiar with the cottage, this was also his first time seeing this set of table and chairs.

Lin Ye was truly an enigmatic female. Every time he thought he had seen everything she had to offer, she would bring him a new surprise.

"Lin Ye, what is this?" The Chief, being the Chief, was the first to snap out of his shock while the others were still immersed in astonishment, and asked her this question.
