Chapter 9
Tang Zhi Hua is Nearing His End
By June, Chu Hao Gang held another wedding. This time, the bride was Zheng Ruo Lan. The wedding was extremely grand; almost all influential figures in Hu Cheng were invited, and the newspapers also reported extensively on the event.
Jiang Han Yan saw Zheng Ruo Lan in the newspaper, wearing a pure white wedding dress, truly beautiful. What was even rarer was her charming demeanor, which held a fatal attraction for men. No wonder Chu Hao Gang would rather harm five innocent women to death than not marry her.
He Yu Fei also read the newspaper, her mood quite calm, but she was curious about something she dared not ask.
Fortunately, Tian Xin Xin asked for her: "Han Yan, will Zheng Ruo Lan die?"
"Probably not. Chu Hao Gang knows He Yu Fei isn't dead, so he must have taken other measures. Otherwise, he wouldn't get married," Jiang Han Yan affirmed.
Whether He Yu Fei was alive or not could be known by investigating at the school. Zheng Ruo Lan was the woman Chu Hao Gang loved most; without thorough preparation, he wouldn't put his beloved in danger.
Tian Xin Xin pouted, saying unwillingly: "This man is so wicked, why doesn't heaven strike him dead with lightning? Instead, he's rich and gets a beautiful wife. Heaven is truly blind."
He Yu Fei nodded repeatedly; she thought the same.
Jiang Han Yan had no time to bother with Chu Hao Gang's affairs. She told Dou Dou about the study abroad trip, and the little boy was extremely excited, looking forward to summer vacation every day, even asking if he could bring Jin Shan Shan along.
This question stumped Jiang Han Yan. She didn't know if Jin Shan Shan was allowed on a plane, so she called CEO Rong.
"Is Jin Shan Shan that big rooster? He can come on the plane; this study abroad trip is chartering a private plane," CEO Rong readily agreed. He had witnessed Jin Shan Shan's capabilities, which were even more formidable than a bodyguard's. With such a spiritual chicken accompanying him, his son's safety would be more assured.
A bitter taste rose in Jiang Han Yan's heart. Some people were born at the starting line. Ordinary children were happy watching "Journey to the West" at home during summer vacation, while rich children went to European summer camps, chartering private planes, with bodyguards and doctors accompanying them 24/7. Indeed, comparing oneself to others only brings more heartache.
Dou Dou was overjoyed to learn he could bring Jin Shan Shan and immediately called his good brother Rong Xuan to share the good news.
Jiang Han Yan smiled, preparing to go back to her room to read. Lu Chen was busy in his study; recently, the company had taken on many projects, and he was swamped with work.
The phone rang, and Jiang Han Yan frowned. She had a bad feeling.
Sure enough, it was Bai Hai Tang on the other end, her sobbing sounds coming through the receiver. Jiang Han Yan held the phone a little further away, not speaking, waiting for Bai Hai Tang to start.
After crying for a long time without receiving any words of concern, Bai Hai Tang was very disappointed and could only sob, "Xiao Chen..."
"I'm Jiang Han Yan, Lu Chen isn't home," Jiang Han Yan's voice was cold and heartless.
"When will Xiao Chen be back?"
Bai Hai Tang didn't want to talk to a cold-blooded person like Jiang Han Yan, because she knew it was useless. She had never seen anyone more heartless than Jiang Han Yan.
"He's not coming back tonight. If you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, I'm hanging up."
Jiang Han Yan's voice showed impatience. Rambling on with meaningless words, her temper couldn't stand it.
"Don't hang up, I... I have a bit of a problem here. Your Uncle Tang is very ill. Can you ask Xiao Chen to come over?" Bai Hai Tang timidly asked.
"Is Tang Xue Hai dead? Tang Zhi Hua has a biological son, why look for an unfavored son like Lu Chen?" Jiang Han Yan sneered mockingly.
After Jiang Si Yuan died, Tang Xue Hai was imprisoned for half a month for pimping and expelled from school. After being released, he lived in the rented house of Tang Zhi Hua and Bai Hai Tang. With a biological son there, yet still calling Lu Chen, this woman Bai Hai Tang's brain must be filled with water.
"Xue Hai, he... he's not home. I can't find him."
"If you can't find him, report it to the police. Such a big lump of flesh, as long as he's not dead, he'll surely be found. If you really can't find him, call an ambulance. Lu Chen is busy; he doesn't have time to bother with trivial matters over there," Jiang Han Yan said coldly.
The other end of the line was silent for a long time, only Bai Hai Tang's sobbing could be heard. Just as Jiang Han Yan ran out of patience and was about to hang up, Bai Hai Tang sobbed, "We're out of money. We can't even call an ambulance, can't even pay the rent anymore."
"Where's the money?"
Jiang Han Yan found it hard to believe. In less than half a year, had the 20,000 yuan from selling the house been completely spent?
"Old Tang's medical treatment needs money, rent also needs money, and Xue Hai took quite a bit. We're really out of money. Has Xiao Chen come back yet?" Bai Hai Tang found it difficult to speak. She had never lived in such destitute circumstances. Even when she was with Lu Chen's father, she had never lacked pocket money.
Lu Chen's father, though utterly scum, was genuinely good to Bai Hai Tang. Despite being heavily in debt outside, he never let her lack pocket money. Even when Bai Hai Tang was pregnant and wanted to eat cherries in the middle of the night, Lu Chen's father would run to a farmer's house to steal them, not minding being bitten by dogs.
"He's not back. You're looking for Lu Chen just to ask for money. What obligation does he have to care for Tang Zhi Hua? He neither gave birth nor raised him. You people are truly shameless!"
Even though she knew Bai Hai Tang's personality, Jiang Han Yan was once again infuriated by this woman. Tang Zhi Hua's money was squandered on debauchery by Tang Xue Hai. He had no money for medical treatment, and he deserved it. What did that have to do with Lu Chen?
Where did this woman get the nerve to make this call?
"Anyway, we can't just stand by and watch him die, can we? Old Tang is very ill; he can't even drink water anymore."
Bai Hai Tang cried very sadly, feeling that Jiang Han Yan was too heartless. She clearly had so much money, why wouldn't she spend a little to treat Old Tang?
"If he can't drink, then die!"
Jiang Han Yan angrily cursed back. An insidious villain like Tang Zhi Hua, he might as well die.
"How can you say that?"
Bai Hai Tang got angry, intending to scold Jiang Han Yan a few times, but then her terrified scream came through the receiver: "Xue Hai, what are you doing? There's no money left in the house... you can't take this money, Old Tang, what's wrong with you?"
The other end of the line was utterly chaotic, with Tang Xue Hai's cursing, Tang Zhi Hua's coughing, and Bai Hai Tang's crying growing louder. Jiang Han Yan furrowed her brows tightly. Although she couldn't see, she could guess what had happened.
Tang Xue Hai, who had been missing for days, had returned and taken the last of the money in the house. That bastard must have gone gambling again.
Jiang Han Yan hung up, went to the study to find Lu Chen, and recounted Bai Hai Tang's current situation.
"Do you want to go over and take a look?"
"I'll go see."
Lu Chen put down his work. After all, she was his biological mother; he couldn't just sit by and do nothing. Moreover, that Tang Xue Hai had lost all humanity; driven to a dead end, who knew what he would do.
"I'll go with you too."
Jiang Han Yan changed out of her pajamas and went with Lu Chen to Bai Hai Tang's rented place. The house she rented was in quite a good location, with two bedrooms and one living room. This woman originally couldn't endure hardship, so she rented a very good house, and the rent was also more expensive.
When they arrived, Tang Xue Hai had already left. The room was messy like a battlefield, and Bai Hai Tang sat on the floor crying. After not seeing her for half a year, she had become much more haggard, but Heaven truly favored her; even though she was so down and out, her beauty hadn't diminished, even adding a touch of pitifulness.
