Chapter 8
Dare to Accept Things from the Dead
The homeowner, who had been observing all this time, felt his heart sink and quickly asked, "Is my son's illness a bit troublesome?"
His wife's face was pale, her body swayed and then collapsed. In the past few days, she hadn't eaten or slept, caring for her son. Her body and mind were exhausted to the extreme, holding on by a thread until now. Jiang Han Yan was her last hope, and now that glimmer of hope seemed to vanish; she couldn't get up anymore.
The husband supported his wife, his expression sorrowful but still looking at Jiang Han Yan with hopeful eyes. But she still closed her eyes and said nothing, making his heart even more anxious and uneasy.
In reality, only a minute had passed, but for this family, it felt longer than a year. Jiang Han Yan suddenly opened her eyes. Just now, she was considering her own strength. If she couldn't resolve it, she would stop early, not waste others' time.
"It can be treated, but it's very troublesome."
Jiang Han Yan finally spoke, her tone extremely serious.
It could indeed be treated, but it would take a lot of effort, and she needed to increase the fee.
The distraught wife suddenly came back to life, eagerly wanting to grab Jiang Han Yan's hand but afraid of offending her, she quickly retracted it, saying repeatedly: "As long as my son can be saved, I'm willing to pay any amount of money. Diviner, please save my son!"
The wife then tried to kneel, but Jiang Han Yan coldly snapped, "If you kneel again, I won't bother anymore."
She only liked cash; she didn't like people kowtowing to her.
The wife was scared and quickly stood up straight, her face awkward. It turned out that Diviner Jiang's anger earlier was because she didn't like people kneeling. It was all that Old Meng the Diviner's fault for talking nonsense and making her misunderstand. Fortunately, Diviner Jiang was magnanimous and didn't hold a grudge against her.
"Don't call me Diviner either. I am a very professional Traditional Chinese Medicine doctor; from now on, call me Doctor Jiang!"
Jiang Han Yan sincerely warned this family. Fortune-telling was just a side job; her main profession was a doctor. She couldn't reverse the root and branch.
"Understood, Doctor Jiang!"
The whole family nodded continuously. Diviner or doctor, it didn't matter; as long as the child was saved, they were good people.
Jiang Han Yan smiled in satisfaction, walked to the child's bed, and placed her hand on his forehead to feel him. A bone-chilling cold quickly entered her palm, making half her arm instantly cold.
But very quickly, a wave of warmth in her body neutralized the cold aura. Jiang Han Yan retracted her hand, took a small jade bottle from her pocket, and dripped a drop of Spirit Spring Water into the boy's mouth. This child's body had been occupied by evil cold, exhausted and weak, so his body had to be restored first with Spirit Spring Water.
Ever since she learned that the spatial dimension would be affected if Lu Chen wasn't nearby, Jiang Han Yan always carried a bottle of Spirit Spring Water with her for emergencies.
After the Spirit Spring Water entered his mouth, the boy's complexion visibly brightened, and he let out a few soft grunts but still didn't wake up. The family was extremely agitated, especially the wife and the old woman; they gathered around, intending to talk to the boy.
"Stay back a bit, don't disturb the child!"
Jiang Han Yan spoke without ceremony, but the family didn't mind at all; they even felt that she was normal this way. It was normal for a truly capable master to have some quirks; if she were too amiable, they might not be used to it.
The few people obediently dispersed, standing from a distance to look at the child. Jiang Han Yan signaled for the husband to come closer and asked, "Have you given the child anything to wear recently?"
The husband was startled, shaking his head in surprise: "No, my son has worn a Jade Guanyin pendant consecrated by an enlightened monk since he was little. He doesn't wear other miscellaneous things."
The wife also nodded, explaining: "It was consecrated by Master Xi Yan from the provincial capital. My son has worn it since he was a hundred days old."
Thanks to this Jade Guanyin pendant protecting his life, their son had been healthy since childhood, with no illnesses or sickness. This time, they didn't know what happened that he suddenly encountered this hopeless calamity.
"Why didn't you look for Master Xi Yan to resolve it?" Jiang Han Yan found it strange. Buddhist masters were best at dispelling evil spirits; why look far and wide?
The husband sighed: "Master Xi Yan has gone wandering and we don't know when he'll return, nor can we contact him."
He then asked, "Doctor Jiang, what exactly is wrong with my son?"
"Soul Separation Syndrome."
Jiang Han Yan didn't hide anything. The whole family was startled; how could one live without a soul?
"Fortunately, you met me. This child has lost six of his seven souls. If there was another day's delay, he would be beyond saving. Don't panic, I've given the child a soul-restoring elixir, so he's temporarily fine."
Jiang Han Yan spoke sometimes fast, sometimes slow, making the family's hearts skip beats continuously. Hearing that the child was temporarily fine, they breathed a sigh of relief.
"How could the child lose his soul out of nowhere? We didn't take him to any messy places," the child's grandmother worriedly muttered. Her son and daughter-in-law were both busy; her grandson was raised solely by her, and their grandmother-grandson bond was very deep.
The husband's expression changed slightly, and he quickly asked, "Doctor Jiang, could it be due to the feng shui of this house?"
Besides that reason, he couldn't think of any other cause.
Jiang Han Yan shook her head: "The feng shui of this house is quite good. Business is prospering, wealth is abundant, and the family is peaceful and harmonious. Let me see the child's Jade Guanyin pendant."
A red string was tied around the boy's neck, from which hung a Jade Guanyin pendant. Jiang Han Yan pulled it out to examine it. The jade was ordinary, but having been worn for many years, it looked very smooth and shiny. She also felt a harmonious aura on the jade; it was indeed a treasure consecrated by a master.
But now, this harmonious aura had weakened to the point of almost disappearing. A few traces of cold aura also appeared on the white jade, clearly indicating that this Jade Guanyin pendant had tried its best to protect the child and resist the evil spirits, but ultimately it was powerless to do anything.
"You should thank this Jade Guanyin pendant from Master Xi Yan. If not for it protecting his life, the child wouldn't have held on until now."
Jiang Han Yan took off the Jade Guanyin pendant; it was useless now, wearing it further would only harm the child.
The family's expressions changed, their hearts filled with fear.
"Think carefully, did you really not let the child touch anything strange? Like jade ornaments, bone carvings, or wood carvings?" Jiang Han Yan asked again, giving specific examples.
Without reason, the child certainly couldn't have been possessed by evil; he must have come into contact with an evil object.
The couple racked their brains but still shook their heads.
In contrast, the child's grandmother seemed to have thought of something. Her expression changed, and she hesitated, wondering whether to speak.
"If you've thought of something, say it immediately. The longer you delay, the more dangerous it is for the child," Jiang Han Yan said sternly.
The old woman, frightened, quickly said: "It was around my birthday some time ago. My granddaughter from the countryside came to visit and gave me a Jade Cicada, saying it was a treasure she found through someone, and it was used by ancient royalty and nobility. I thought it was indeed a good item, not like those miscellaneous things."
"Mother, why didn't you tell me you accepted something valuable?" The husband's face darkened. He wasn't close to that granddaughter from the countryside, and they didn't usually interact. How could she accept such a valuable gift?
The old woman was a bit embarrassed, intending to explain a few words. Jiang Han Yan urged in a deep voice, "Where is that Jade Cicada?"
Indeed, ignorance breeds fear. To dare to accept things from the dead, were they afraid of living too long?
