Chapter 44
Writing Wills on Behalf of Others
The students below panicked upon hearing this. It was said to be voluntary before, so why the sudden change?
"Teacher, can I know why? I don't want to participate," a brave student asked.
"There is no reason. This is an order from above. I hope you all get ready quickly," Wu Kaijun said coldly, a stark contrast to his previous demeanor.
Shen Yi's mind went numb. He didn't know what had happened. He had already planned what to do after returning, but before he could even leave, he was told he couldn't.
When things were finally going well, he couldn't go back. Where was the justice in this?
Wu Kaijun continued coldly, "I don't want to repeat myself. Those who do not wish to participate can wait until we return, but your student status will be expelled." With that, he turned and walked over to stand with several elders.
At the same time, similar situations were happening in training sessions across the country.
Many students even claimed they would report this, but they still couldn't change the instructors' decisions regarding the trial.
As they whispered among themselves, the massive light barrier behind them suddenly flickered violently.
Behind the stone platform, the flickering was most intense, and gradually, an archway appeared on the platform.
"Line up and stand firm. Enter through the archway one by one," Wu Kaijun said to everyone.
Meanwhile, the elders flew toward the various corners of the Secret Realm.
The students who didn't want to participate had no choice but to walk in. Shen Yi was the last to enter. Just as he was about to step through, he heard someone calling from behind.
"Kaijun, wait a moment. There's one more student here. Bring him in as well."
An old man suddenly appeared on the stone platform, with a young man beside him.
The old man looked to be over seventy, spirited and hale, with his beard blown to one side by the wind.
"Huang Ren, why are you here?" Shen Yi asked in surprise upon seeing the person beside the old man.
Hearing someone call his name, Huang Ren looked over reluctantly, then said in pleasant surprise, "Shen Yi, you haven't been eliminated yet?"
"Aren't you recovering at the base?" Shen Yi asked.
"Don't even mention it. It's all because of my grandfather. I seriously doubt if I'm his biological grandson. With my talent, what am I doing in here? Isn't this just delivering myself as a snack to others?" Huang Ren said with a bitter face.
"You brat, what are you talking about? Go in and train properly. Don't think I don't know what's going on in that head of yours. If your father can't control you, do you think I can't?" the old man beside Huang Ren grumbled.
"Your grandfather?" Shen Yi whispered.
Huang Ren nodded and said no more.
"Since you two rascals know each other, you'll have a companion in there. Hurry up and get in," the old man said, glancing at Shen Yi.
"Elder Huang, why are you here? It's been years since I last saw you in Lanyuan," Wu Kaijun obviously recognized Huang Ren's grandfather, Huang Zhenping, and hurriedly greeted him.
Huang Zhenping pointed at Huang Ren and laughed, "It's all because of this rotten brat. He spends all day slacking off, so I brought him here to gain some experience."
"Alright, you two should head in. Elder Huang, would you like to stay here and watch?" Wu Kaijun asked Huang Zhenping after letting Shen Yi and Huang Ren pass.
"What would this old man do waiting here? Just keep an eye on that rotten brat for me later. As long as he doesn't die, anything else goes." With that, he turned and left.
Wu Kaijun smiled helplessly. He didn't mind. Once everyone had entered, he sat cross-legged at the entrance of the archway and began to meditate.
After Shen Yi and Huang Ren stepped inside, the scene shifted. The view before them was beautiful enough to be called a paradise on earth.
The spiritual energy in the air was incredibly dense—so dense that with every breath, they could feel their ability levels rising.
The sky was blue, and the forest stretched endlessly. If it weren't for the students being chased by Fierce Beasts in the distance, it would have been perfect.
"Shen Yi, run! Those students are running toward us!" Huang Ren pointed. Following them were five wolf-like Fierce Beasts.
"Bei Huan?" Shen Yi looked in the direction Huang Ren pointed.
He recognized them. Bei Huan were known for their extreme speed and cunning.
"Shen Yi, save us!" The students also recognized Shen Yi and shouted at him.
[Ding~]
[Option 1: Charge forward righteously to answer your classmates' cry for help and defeat the five Bei Huan. Reward: One 'Good Person' Card]
[Option 2: Shout to your classmates: "Classmates, do you need a will? I write them for a high price, honest business for all ages!" Reward: Spirit +1]
[Option 3: Leave silently. Reward: Scouting Proficiency +10]
Shen Yi directly ignored the first option, and the third reward was practically useless.
Shen Yi looked at the fleeing students and shouted, "Classmates, do you need a will? I write them for a high price, honest business for all ages!"
The students were speechless. Was this guy out of his mind? They ran straight toward Shen Yi anyway.
The Bei Huan behind them bared their vicious fangs and pounced.
With a *boom*, Shen Yi sent one pouncing Bei Huan flying with a single punch.
The remaining four Bei Huan saw their companion get swatted away and instantly halted their pounce.
They knew what would happen if they charged.
"What are you looking at me for? Who were you chasing just now? Go find them! I wasn't the one who provoked you. If you dare bare your teeth at me, I'll end you." Shen Yi brandished his blade, threatening the Bei Huan.
[Reward Completed: Spirit +1]
The Bei Huan seemed to understand. They turned back and surrounded the students.
"Shen Yi, we're classmates! How can you just stand by and watch us die?" the students yelled in frustration as the Bei Huan closed in.
"Precisely because we're classmates, I'm offering to write a will for you and charging you a small fee. That's not unreasonable, is it?" Shen Yi said seriously.
Seeing the Bei Huan about to pounce and having no strength left to resist, one student finally asked, "If we pay you to write a will, can you help us solve this problem?"
"Of course. The customer is king," Shen Yi nodded.
"How much? I'll pay five hundred yuan."
"Do you take me for a street-side scribe? I'm very expensive," Shen Yi said disdainfully.
"Then how much do you want?" The student was desperate.
"Three Second-stage Mutant Crystals."
"We don't have any! We haven't even gotten a single crystal since we got here."
"Can we write an IOU?"
"No, this is a small business. No tabs." Shen Yi hadn't intended to help them in the first place. He had the strength to fight, but he wasn't stupid. These people had clearly harbored ill intentions, leading the beasts straight to him without a second thought.
He only talked to them to complete the System's option.
Ignoring them, Shen Yi and Huang Ren walked away into the distance.
