The Rise of the Useless

Yui and Asp's Identities

Chapter 10

Yui and Asp's Identities

After a warm night, Yui and I were still sleeping soundly in each other's arms. Asp woke us both up with the sound of a splash as he jumped into the water. The sun was already high, but we still wanted to hold each other for a little longer.

I scrambled to sit up, and my eyes met Yui's. We both shared a happy smile. Yui was slightly shy after last night, but the bond between us had grown even stronger.

Yui prepared breakfast for the three of us. Her culinary skills were truly flawless; even with a lack of spices, the food was incredibly delicious. Asp and I quickly devoured our portions, while Yui savored hers slowly.

After eating, the three of us prepared to set off out of the forest. We continued in the same direction as yesterday. Along the way, we encountered a few low-level magical beasts, such as B-rank Two-Headed Wolves, A-rank Violent Bears, B-rank Serpent Demons, and C-rank Goblin Mages... These magical beasts were only enough for Asp to toy with for a while. Even though Asp was in his baby dragon form, the larger beasts couldn't do anything to him. I stored all the dropped items in my inventory, thinking they might be useful when we returned to the human world.

But a major problem right now was that we had no idea which forest, country, or even continent we were on. Thus, we could only continue moving forward.

Suddenly, something flew rapidly toward me. I tilted my body to dodge it. It was a squirrel-like magical beast with red eyes and black fur as hard as iron. I accessed the Dragon Clan's Treasury of Knowledge and learned that it was a Demon Squirrel, an A-rank magical beast with extreme speed and high defense.

Just as I identified the information, it charged rapidly toward me. Though fast, its speed was still quite slow to me. I intended to draw my sword to finish it off, but Asp suddenly leaped forward, "hugging" the Demon Squirrel and sending it flying, crashing into a tree trunk. Realizing the disparity in strength, it fled at full speed, but Asp caught up easily. After a brief chase, it was swiped into the sky by Asp's claw.

After walking a bit further, we stopped to rest. Sitting on a cliff, I suddenly remembered the skill 'Skill Neutralization' and opened my status screen to check it.

"Oh, my status has acquired these new additions."

I suddenly realized that since we met, I had never fully viewed Asp and Yui's statuses. I stepped down from the rock and walked toward where Yui was resting. Asp trotted along behind me.

"Yui, can I check your status? I also have a few things I want to ask you."

Yui was quite surprised, but then she calmed down.

"Yes, I intended to let you know, but I haven't had the chance. This will also help us understand each other better," Yui whispered shyly.

"Of course, I will also let you see my status screen, though it's not quite normal."

"I know! An ordinary person could never have survived the things that happened in the labyrinth."

As I was preparing to view Yui's status screen, Asp started jumping up and down, as if wanting to go first. We both laughed at his antics.

"We should probably let Asp go first, Sechi."

"I think so."

Asp was visibly delighted, puffing out his chest and raising his head high to strike a majestic pose.

"You are really strong, Asp," I praised.

Asp became even more smug. Indeed, he was extremely powerful, and he belonged to the Holy Dragon lineage, the highest class of dragonkind. Yet, it was strange for a dragon to bear the title of Dragon Slayer.

"Now you must let me see your status screen."

"But I haven't seen yours yet."

"But I want to see yours first," Yui replied stubbornly, looking incredibly adorable.

"Alright, fine." I gave in.

I showed my status screen to Yui. She looked utterly astonished, despite having said she wouldn't be surprised. Asp also leaned in to look, then suddenly walked away silently like an introverted loner, taking heavy steps with his head hung low until he bumped his head against a rock in front of him. The feeling of showing off something of yours only to find someone else has something infinitely better is truly hard to describe.

Afterward, Yui returned my status screen and allowed me to view hers.
