Chapter 11
A Warm Night
Du Yue Rao took the opportunity to retrieve two sprays of hair-care essential oil from her space. It was the scent she often used in modern times, a light jasmine fragrance that brought a sense of peace.
Thinking back to what Gu Si had just said, Du Yue Rao assumed he wanted her to apply the medicine for him. That made sense; with the children there, it was a bit inconvenient.
Thus, she walked over to Gu Si's room.
The two children had slept in Gu Si's room before, so it wasn't as if Du Yue Rao had never been inside, but for some reason, her heart was racing right now.
She raised her hand and knocked.
"Knock, knock..."
The door was pulled open from the inside. In the darkness, Du Yue Rao immediately locked eyes with Gu Si's narrow, dark eyes.
"I came to... apply the medicine for you..."
Gu Si was already holding the medicine bottle in his hand. Hearing this, he stepped aside to let Du Yue Rao in.
No lights were on in his room, which made Du Yue Rao breathe a sigh of relief. In this level of darkness, he probably couldn't see her embarrassed expression.
Little did she know, the man's eyesight was exceptionally keen. Her small sense of relief was clearly seen by him.
"Should I lie face down here?"
Du Yue Rao pulled up the back of her shirt and lay face down on Gu Si's bed.
The bedding carried a faint scent of mild soap mixed with the warmth of the sun, along with a unique scent belonging to Gu Si that she couldn't quite describe. It made her feel safe, and the moment she touched the edge of the bed, a wave of sleepiness washed over her.
Gu Si's touch was as gentle and soothing as always. Du Yue Rao had thought she would be very tense, but she unexpectedly drifted off under his gentle massage.
In the darkness, Gu Si listened to the girl's steady breathing and slowly stopped his hands.
He looked at her adorable, sleepy face, remembering her flushed, embarrassed expression from earlier that afternoon. He felt as if someone had gently nudged his heart, melting it completely.
Gu Si gazed at her for a little longer, then, though reluctant, scooped her up in his arms.
Her hair brushed against him, and the pure scent of jasmine enveloped him, causing his arms to tighten around her slightly.
The two children were playing in Du Yue Rao's room. Hearing footsteps, they immediately looked toward the door in excitement. They were still looking forward to hearing a bedtime story!
To their surprise, their father walked in carrying their fast-asleep mother.
Remembering Du Yue Rao's flushed face from earlier, the two children immediately ran over in concern.
Gu Si gently laid Du Yue Rao on the bed. Lowering his voice, he said to the two, "Your mother is asleep. Keep it down."
The two children breathed a sigh of relief. Although they were a bit sad about not getting a story, they were glad their mother was fine. They were extremely obedient to Gu Si, nodding their little heads like chickens pecking at rice.
Because Gu Si had placed Du Yue Rao in the middle of the bed, the two children could only lie on either side of her.
Gu Ying Han naturally lay down, pressing close to Du Yue Rao, his eyes shining brightly.
Gu Ying Ming was a bit shy at first, hesitating for a moment before timidly lying down next to her. Smelling the pleasant scent on Du Yue Rao, he soon fell fast asleep, feeling the sweet fragrance even in his dreams.
Gu Si returned to his room, where the scent of Du Yue Rao's body still lingered on the bed.
He lay down and began to reflect on everything that had happened recently. He couldn't understand how a person could change their personality so drastically in such a short time.
It was clearly the exact same face as before, yet she seemed like an entirely different person.
The next morning, Du Yue Rao woke up to find herself lying on the bed in her room. The two children beside her were already gone. As for how she had returned last night, there was no need to ask.
A warm feeling welled up in her chest.
Stepping out of the room, she saw that Gu Si had already prepared breakfast for the family of four.
After breakfast, Gu Si prepared to go to work as usual, and the two children happily ran outside to play.
Before he left, Du Yue Rao spoke up.
"Oh, right. I want to find some time to go to town. Our house is missing so many things."
This house had always been managed by Gu Si, and men rarely paid attention to every little detail. Aside from the essential furniture, there was almost nothing else in the house.
She couldn't keep using the excuse of taking things out of her space forever. In the long run, taking things out without any incoming supply would definitely arouse suspicion.
Fearing Gu Si would worry, she added, "Just to buy some daily necessities, nothing else."
