The Supporting Character's Tragic Mask

Unworthy

Chapter 5

Unworthy

The weather seemed to have changed; the persistent rains had stopped, giving way to sunlight stretching across the bustling streets. But that warmth could not soothe the coldness in people's hearts.

It had been a long time since Linh had been to class, but perhaps no one here cared. Because whether she was there or not, they never paid attention to a rich, glamorous young lady like her. Here, she didn't have a single friend.

Ling was the same; he didn't care about her absence. To him, Linh was just an annoying shadow he couldn't shake off. Without her, his life was even happier.

"After we graduate, let's go to Paris together!"

Ling smiled, his fingers intertwined with Wei's, but she remained silent, looking deep into his eyes, wanting to speak but holding back.

"I..."

"What's wrong?"

Seeing Wei stammer, his eyebrows involuntarily furrowed, his slender hands gently caressing her cheek.

"I think we should break..."

"Don't say another word."

Without letting Wei finish, Ling quickly cut her off. His strong arms embraced her tightly, as if afraid she would slip from his grasp, his nose greedily inhaling her scent.

"I don't want to be the third party, I don't want Linh to be sad, I don't want to..."

Wei began to speak, her voice gradually softening then fading into sobs.

"No, you're not the third party, you're the one I love most. I won't let you go anywhere. The one who has to leave is Linh, not you. I never loved her from the beginning; I will definitely break off the engagement."

Ling hugged Wei even tighter, his voice becoming frantic. He gently wiped away the tears on her cheeks, tenderly as if cherishing a precious treasure.

From a distance, a girl stood silently observing them. Her face alternated between white and green, her lips trembling. She knew she should let go, but why did her heart clench so violently the more she looked at him?

Why? Why did that person come and then leave? Why did he leave such a large shadow in her heart? Why did he forget her?

Linh asked herself many times, but all her questions remained unanswered. Many times she wanted to ask him why he forgot, but she was afraid he would reply, "Who are you?"

Perhaps, this knot could only be untied by the one who tied it. With a faint smile, Linh quickly walked towards the two of them.

"Do you two pretend I don't exist?"

Linh said softly, her voice still as arrogant as ever, her hands quickly separating Ling and Wei.

"Let go!"

Ling shouted coldly, his strong hands forcefully pushing Linh away, making her fall to the ground. Her fair hand hit the stone pavement, scraping off a patch of skin.

"Linh..."

Wei called her name in a panic, her tear-filled eyes looking at the seeping blood. She wanted to help Linh up but was afraid of her anger.

"Why? Why do you treat me like this? What did I do wrong to you? Why can't you love me even a little?"

Linh shouted softly, her face pale but without a single tear, a pitiful stubbornness.

"Because you're not worthy. You make me tired with your arrogant, privileged young lady act. You disgust me with the smell of makeup on you..."

"In your eyes, am I that kind of person?"

Without waiting for Ling to finish his insults, Linh coldly cut him off. Her face at this moment was terrifyingly cold, her deep black eyes piercing into the image of the two people before her. That coldness seemed to have been tempered by years of harshness, not something acquired in a day or two.

"What do you think?"

Ling sneered, his mouth spitting out bitter words, completely contrary to his reason. He no longer understood himself; he didn't want to say those words, but they still came out.

"What do I think? I think in your eyes, I'm just the bastard child of a vixen who steals other people's family happiness. I'm a spoiled, arrogant, hateful girl, not even as good as a pure wild flower in your heart. I'm a fool who clings to you all day, using the title of a fake fiancée to缠绕 you, separating you from your lover. You say I'm not worthy? What do I lack that makes me unworthy? If it's education, I can get a prestigious university degree. If it's money, I can burn her to death with money. If it's beauty, I'm a thousand times better than her. She's just a poor, ragged girl..."

*Slap!*

"Shut up!"

Ling shouted loudly, his strong hand slapping her cheek, leaving five red marks. She looked at him, her eyes empty, startling him. But before he could say anything, he received a punch to the face.

"Brother Ling!"

Wei frantically helped Ling up, her tear-filled eyes gently wiped away by Ling.

"You're the one who's not worthy of Linh."

A deep voice rang out, making the other two finally notice the newcomer. He stood against the sunlight, his handsome face radiating a brilliant aura.

"I don't need your help."

Without waiting for Ling to reply, Linh coldly dismissed Wang Kai Yi. Her cold eyes looking at him startled him, his heart clenching once again. She still didn't need him, even when Ling didn't need her.

"Why? If he doesn't need you, let me take care of you. If he doesn't cherish you, let me cherish you. If he doesn't love you, let me love you. I will definitely not let go again. Five years ago, I left for you, but now I will definitely not let you follow him."

He shouted softly, his hands tightly grasping Linh's, his eyes streaked with blood staring at Ling.

"I just hope you can remove her from my life. Like attracts like, after all. A bastard should stay with a bastard."

Ling sneered again, then pulled Wei away, bitter words escaping his lips, but his heart felt strangely uncomfortable. Wang Kai Yi, he's back, he should be happy, shouldn't he?

The other two remained, watching their figures disappear into the distance.

"I never want to see you again, just go."

Linh said softly, then also walked away. She didn't want to hurt Wang Kai Yi anymore. He was a good man, deserving of someone who truly loved him, and that person wasn't her.

"No, I won't go. As long as you turn around, I'll definitely be behind you."

Wang Kai Yi smiled faintly, a strangely bitter smile. He slowly followed her, just like five years ago, when he silently walked behind her, and she walked behind Ling. Five years later, it was still the same, only different in that one person watched two, and one person followed all three.

"Huang Hai Ling, I will definitely make you regret what you've done."

Wang Kai Yi's hands clenched, then he turned and walked away. Linh was the same; she was too tired of acting. If things were already like this, then she was also tired of chasing his retreating figure.
