Chapter 14
The Registration Window
Opposite the hospital's main gate was the registration area, which had five glass windows. The windows were marked with red letters for emergency and regular registration, but the interior was dark, and the windows were pitch black, making it impossible to see what was inside.
No one wanted to take the initiative to investigate... Anyone with a brain could tell this was a trap set by the production crew, and there would definitely be small jump-scare mechanisms inside.
The director's voice rang maliciously in the guests' earpieces and speakers: "First mission: Explore Huasen Town Hospital. Successfully register at Huasen Town Hospital and obtain a registration slip."
Everyone: "..."
Since the director had spoken, the guests naturally had to cooperate.
Sha Chuan had always been very active in taking the lead to explore, planning to build a calm and reliable image on the show to attract a large number of fans.
He was a bit disgusted by the dusty window sill, but he still pretended not to mind, saying enthusiastically, "Let me go ahead and scout the way for everyone!"
As soon as he said this, Mu Xingchen immediately cupped his hands: "Thanks, brother!"
Sha Chuan brought his glow stick close to the dark window, and the cameraman followed closely, wanting to see how this empty window would handle their registration.
The range of the glow stick was pitifully small. Sha Chuan had no choice but to grit his teeth and thrust the glow stick into the window.
The pale blue light illuminated the inside of the window. Sha Chuan faintly saw a registration slip hanging loosely inside. He was delighted: "That was easy!"
He thought the production crew's design was too simple.
He reached out to grab the hanging slip, but when he pulled, it didn't budge.
Was it stuck?
Sha Chuan thought impatiently, bending down to look closely at the mechanism inside. The camera lens also followed his movement, focusing on the window.
He pulled hard, and the registration slip was yanked down, suddenly revealing a pair of swollen, bloodshot, and resentful eyes hidden behind it.
That hanging slip was actually being held in the mouth of a pale ghost face.
"Ahhhhh!!!" Sha Chuan's hair stood on end, and he stumbled back into the crowd.
The cameraman was also startled, the camera shaking violently as he retreated from the window in fear.
"W-What on earth was that?!" Sha Chuan shrieked.
Qi Gu, chewing on an egg-yolk-flavored spicy strip, stepped forward. While munching, he looked inside in the same posture as Sha Chuan, and then said calmly, "It's just a plastic mannequin, nothing else."
Sha Chuan thought Qi Gu was deliberately trying to make him look bad, so he forced his trembling legs to step forward.
Looking closely, it really was just a plastic mannequin.
Sha Chuan's face instantly turned ugly, feeling he had lost face big time.
His resentment toward Qi Gu also increased, believing Qi Gu was deliberately acting calm to make him look like he was overreacting.
Outside the hospital tent, Song An knew there was a setup inside the window, but he was still slightly startled. He couldn't help but say to the prop designer beside him, "Old Ke, where did you buy this prop mannequin? It looks too real. If it exceeded the budget, let me know, I'll find a way."
Not hearing prop designer Old Ke speak for a while, Song An turned his head and saw Old Ke's face was pale.
"...Hey, this place doesn't seem right. I set the pose of the mannequin in the middle window myself. I remember very clearly that I didn't bend it, but placed it facing the window!"
Song An was also startled, but quickly comforted him: "Maybe someone else thought the placement wasn't right and adjusted it. Didn't you take a day off to go home yesterday?"
"Right, right. Then maybe someone else changed it. I'll have to have a serious talk with them later. Don't they know scaring people can kill them!" Old Ke's face finally regained some color.
The show continued. With Sha Chuan's example, everyone else didn't bother to look inside, simply reaching in to grope around and grab the registration slip.
The other three finished, leaving only Vivian and Lin Hanzhi.
Vivian, wearing a silk slip dress, stood aside with a bad expression, hugging her arms.
Sha Chuan saw her posture and assumed she was cold.
Wanting to curry favor with the wealthy lady, Sha Chuan scanned the room and finally stopped on Lin Hanzhi, the only one wearing a long trench coat. He said warmly, "Hanzhi, Sister Vivian seems a bit cold. Can you lend her your coat for a bit?"
"Sorry, my health is poor, I cannot lend it." Lin Hanzhi said, coughing a few times, looking so weak he could faint at any moment.
Sha Chuan didn't give up: "You're a grown man, surely your body is stronger than a girl's?"
Vivian came from a wealthy background, and many people wanted to flatter her.
But it was her first time seeing someone like Sha Chuan, who wanted to curry favor with someone using someone else's belongings. Seeing him get more out of line, Vivian raised her voice slightly and said sternly, "No need, I'm not cold at all. I'm just a bit scared of the things inside."
Sha Chuan was shut down. He felt embarrassed and cursed the old woman in his heart for not knowing what was good for her, but he kept a smile on his face.
Qi Gu looked at Vivian's face and spoke naturally: "Those things cannot harm a good person with great merit protecting them like you. If you're really worried, why not have a candy to ease your mind?"
He had always respected people of this type. As he spoke, he handed Vivian a fruit candy.
Vivian didn't believe Qi Gu was a true master at such a young age, but hearing him say this made her feel a bit more at ease.
She took the candy, unwrapped it, and without minding the poorly packaged, slightly melted candy, put it in her mouth. The sweet taste spread, indeed dissolving some of her anxiety.
"Then I'll give it a try."
She said, actually walking forward.
Sha Chuan's words "Let me get it for you, Sister Vivian" got stuck in his throat, and he could only swallow them back down unwillingly.
Vivian indeed successfully retrieved the registration slip, and nothing happened from start to finish.
She patted her chest and sighed in relief, a lucky expression on her face.
Finally, only Lin Hanzhi was left. His pale, weak face looked even more sallow under the dim light. He looked up at Qi Gu: "Master Qi, I'm a bit scared of these things. Can I hold your hand to complete this mission?"
