Weekend at the Hospital Wing

Chapter 7

Weekend at the Hospital Wing

When Wei Zhaite regained consciousness, he was in the Hospital Wing.

The Hospital Wing did not have the smell of disinfectant like the hospitals of his past life, but rather a strange mixed scent of various herbs.

A fragrance similar to lavender lingered at the tip of his nose.

At this moment, the sunlight was just right, shining through the window onto the bedsheets, warming a whole patch.

Beautiful sunlight...

The Hospital Wing?

He remembered that when he lost consciousness, the sun had just set behind the mountains, but now it was the afternoon sun.

This meant he had been lying in the Hospital Wing for nearly a whole day.

Professor Quirrell's lecture...

Wei Zhaite tried to sit up, but was prevented by an invisible yet gentle force.

Following that was a heavy pain circling his forehead, much like the feeling in his past life after staying up for two consecutive nights to finish an exam.

"You're awake!" A woman's seasoned face suddenly appeared before his eyes.

It was Madam Pomfrey. She helped Wei Zhaite sit up and brought over a measuring cup steaming with silver mist. "Is your head still hurting? Drink this!"

Wei Zhaite held his forehead. As he sat up, the heavy pain became even more apparent.

He nodded and said with effort, "Thank you, Madam Pomfrey."

"In here again for overusing your brain..." Madam Pomfrey muttered. "If it were fifth or seventh-year students, I’d find it tolerable."

"But you're only a first-year! As a Ravenclaw, have you been putting too much pressure on yourself? You can relax a bit; after all, you'll be here for seven years..."

"Didn't we meet last time? I told you then, you mustn't use Baruffio's Brain-Sharpening Elixir... You haven't used it, have you? You absolutely must not form a dependency!"

"Of course not." Wei Zhaite shook his head somewhat helplessly, bringing the cup to his mouth. "I will be careful... This time was just an accident..."

The potion itself had no taste, but the sensation when drinking it was thick, similar to heavily cooked porridge.

Immediately after was a burst of lavender fragrance, with grainy particles slowly flowing down his throat from his mouth.

"Alright, lie back down and rest!" Madam Pomfrey instructed.

The potion took effect very quickly. Less than three seconds after drinking it, just as he lay back down, he felt the heavy pain subside.

Immediately after, a sudden drowsiness hit him, causing him to lose consciousness...

When he woke up again, it was the same beautiful sunlight.

He did a simple calculation and realized that two days had likely passed.

Not only had he missed Professor Quirrell's lecture, but he had also missed Professor Snape's.

Thinking of this, he felt a bit of a loss.

He wanted to know Professor Quirrell's current state, and he also didn't want to miss the knowledge of the two professors...

The first to visit him were his roommates. They surrounded Madam Pomfrey, asking all sorts of questions, wanting to know if there were any lingering effects from fighting the Troll that led to his hospitalization.

Initially, Madam Pomfrey answered patiently, but after a while, she became annoyed and pushed the roommates out, citing that "the patient needs rest."

Next were Penelope and the members of the Quidditch team. Having seen the example of the roommates, they didn't get to say much before being asked to leave the Hospital Wing.

Harry and his friends also came, but under Madam Pomfrey's pressure, they could only try to lower their voices, asking a few quick questions.

Ron said, "George and the others told me you were hit by the Troll, which is why your head hurts, right?"

Wei Zhaite rubbed his temples. He now knew why his roommates had been so hesitant and had pestered Madam Pomfrey so much.

Hermione said with a flushed face, "Thank you for speaking up for me... If it weren't for you, I wouldn't have become friends with Ron and Harry."

Harry was just about to say something when Madam Pomfrey interrupted, "You lot can go outside!"

Harry defended himself bravely, "But I haven't said a single word..."

Madam Pomfrey raised her eyebrows. "The patient needs rest, and you've already said one sentence! That makes three sentences in total!"

Amidst Harry's "Ah," the three were pushed out of the Hospital Wing.

Wei Zhaite ate a few simple things, mainly pumpkin oatmeal porridge and stews.

On the table were also several oil-paper packages containing some candy, cakes, cookies, and meat floss.

Along with them was a silver censer emitting white smoke, smelling of lavender.

Madam Pomfrey introduced, "The snacks are from the Hufflepuff freshmen. I didn't expect you to have such good relations!"

"The silver censer was brought by Professor Quirrell. He told me to light it, saying it helps alleviate headaches."

"Professor Snape checked it over at the time, added some lavender essential oil, and then I lit it."

Speaking of Snape, Snape immediately appeared.

He walked silently into the Hospital Wing, carrying a measuring cup of potion steaming with silver mist—the same potion Wei Zhaite had taken yesterday.

Wei Zhaite noticed that Snape's gait was a bit strange, but he didn't have time to look closely.

Before Snape left, he gave Wei Zhaite one last look, curled his lip, and departed.

Wei Zhaite reached toward the side table, wanting to pick up his notebook.

"Can't you rest for a bit?" Madam Pomfrey said somewhat helplessly. "Your level of diligence... far exceeds most Ravenclaw students I've seen."

"Sorry, Madam Pomfrey, I must record this potion formula..." Wei Zhaite took the potion and took a small sip.

"This scent is definitely lavender, though I'm not sure if it's a tincture or an essential oil... Let me take another small sip!"

"It must be a tincture! The alcohol takes effect during the melting process... Those grainy particles when drinking are Moonstone Powder!"

"What is the thick quality? Probably Moon Dew Nectar and Infusion of Wormwood; the taste is a bit sweet..."

He followed the techniques Snape had taught him previously, trying to deduce the specific formula of this potion.

As the potion in the measuring cup gradually emptied, Wei Zhaite’s eyelids grew heavier and heavier. He struggled to finish the last stroke before finally falling into a deep sleep.

This action made Madam Pomfrey's heart ache.

After locking the doors of the Hospital Wing, she immediately 'flew' to Snape's office.

The moment he saw Madam Pomfrey, Snape immediately frowned and said, "Is there a problem with the potion? Impossible!"

"Have you been putting too much pressure on that boy?" Madam Pomfrey questioned. "The moment you left, he started taking notes."

"Taking notes?" Snape was a bit confused. "Notes on what? And why did you come to find me?"

Madam Pomfrey crossed her arms. "He was tasting the potion and deducing the formula. Was that an assignment you gave him?"

"Deducing the formula?" Snape's eyelids twitched. "What if it was? As a student, that's what he should be doing!"

"But he is currently a patient!" Madam Pomfrey was a very gentle person, but when dealing with patient issues, she would always stand her ground.

Snape said indifferently, "Then I shall make the potion again... and keep making it until he is fully recovered."

Sending Madam Pomfrey off, Snape's lips moved, and he shook his head slightly, saying, "That brat!"
