Chapter 2
An Unexpected Encounter
The two of them shared a room, but their personalities were completely opposite. One was a bookworm with excellent grades who didn't even know what a handsome guy was or what they looked like. The other was lazy, a slow learner, and only managed to pass her classes thanks to her best friend (Fang Ying: yes, not by cheating during exams, but through tutoring). She was so obsessed with handsome guys that her eyes would turn into hearts whenever she saw one, though she still had to evaluate their character before deciding whether to admire them.
Sure enough, at just 6:00 AM, Wei woke up to find her best friend gone, but there was a small sticky note stuck to her face. The content read: "Hey lazy pig, I'm heading to school first! Look at your face, it's so hilarious! Ahihi."
Ming Yue looked in the mirror and saw her best friend's extremely funny "masterpiece"—her face was covered in colorful doodles. It looked no different from a color palette. She went mad and screamed:
- WU DENG MING YUE, you are dead!
Ming Yue went to the canteen for breakfast and suddenly sneezed repeatedly. It must be because Wei was talking about her, since she had drawn on Wei's face like a color palette. Surely Wei would go mad and chase her all over the school. Just thinking about it made her laugh, and she pulled out her phone to browse. At that moment, the canteen became terrifyingly noisy. She heard the girls screaming about some "Five Great Male Gods", but she didn't care because she wasn't into handsome guys. She sat there nibbling on her bread while reading a thick book, with a few other equally thick books piled beside her.
Suddenly, several guys from the "Five Great Male Gods" group looked in her direction. She didn't pay attention. Then, those guys walked toward her. The girls around them screamed so loudly that she felt sorry for her own ears. She took her headphones out of her bag and plugged them in to block out the noise. This left the guys very surprised, as there had never been a girl who didn't fall for their looks and status. If not for their looks, then for their status—how did she dare?
- Hey, you! Didn't you see us coming?
She didn't hear anything, only turning around to stare at the speaker with an innocent, adorable expression. The guys couldn't help but feel their hearts skip a beat. She kept that face and took off her headphones. Her background wasn't simple either; she just hid it.
- What did you say just now? - She buried her face back in the book.
- Didn't you see us coming? - The guy finally snapped out of it.
- I saw you. So what?
- You are talking to me, the school's hot boy—Chen Deng Qing. Yet you dare to be so insolent? I get it, you're the type who likes me but plays hard to get just to catch my attention, right? I see your type all the time. Wanting to please me just to hang out with us? Keep dreaming. - Qing bragged about his looks and ranted on, making her furious. The temperature around her suddenly dropped for no apparent reason.
- Cut it out! What I do is none of your business, as if I need your concern. Does it affect your future, your life? Or does it affect your family's economy? Why do you keep nagging me? Let me tell you, your faces disgust me, especially your pockmarked face. So, don't bring that face near me again. Now, leave me alone. - After speaking, she gathered her books and stormed out of the canteen, under the wide-eyed stares of the crowd and the daggers glared by the girls.
As soon as she left the canteen, just as predicted, she was chased around the schoolyard by Wei.
This was the thought of the remaining guys: "That girl is dead meat!"
