Chapter 17
God
Angel approached Hua Jian, reaching out to touch him, but his fingers passed through Hua Jian's shoulder, into empty space. Under the light, only Hua Jian's shadow stretched long, but when Angel restored his soul form, having no physical body, there was no longer a shadow on the ground.
He felt confused. Why had he suddenly gained a body, but when Hua Jian saw him, that body vanished? What exactly had happened?
— Angel... — He heard Hua Jian softly call his name.
Hua Jian lowered his head to look at his hands. His fingers had become bloody and indistinct, fresh blood dripping onto the pristine white floor, blooming like crimson flowers. Immediately after, his arm also began to rot, the decay gradually spreading, turning into festering flesh.
Angel was utterly astonished, yet Hua Jian's eyes held no emotion, maintaining his previous posture. The skin on Hua Jian's body began to peel, layer after layer falling to the floor, leaving behind streaks of blood. Throughout the process, Hua Jian merely observed his own transformation silently, showing no reaction, like a soulless corpse.
The hatred from before had vanished; now only a dazed Hua Jian remained, watching his own death with indifference. Angel noticed the most unusual thing: Why was Hua Jian fragmenting like this? From violent to humble, and finally to numb. Could it be that multiple fragmented souls existed within his body?
Hua Jian's body completely disintegrated, leaving only a skeletal frame, upon which eerie red patterns were intricately carved. Angel gasped in horror. Was Hua Jian dead? Who could have harmed him to this extent, without anyone knowing?
Suddenly, blue lightning tore through the sky, and thunder boomed. It was the punishment from God descending upon hell, which Hua Jian—as the current Zhu Mian—had to bear. Angel thought that in this world, apart from the true God, no one could crush Hua Jian like this.
In a distant void, Tian Zhu—the former Zhu Mian—smiled contentedly:
— The true God is about to descend upon the mortal world. Hua Jian, your day of death has arrived.
Angel felt extreme pain. He wanted to embrace Hua Jian, but his hands passed through the skeleton. A cold aura enveloped him; the entire room turned a vivid red, like a sea of blood. The fragments of flesh on the ground began to float, and a thick, crimson mist surrounded him. A deep-seated fear from his soul arose; he wanted to flee, but his body felt shackled, unable to move.
