Chapter 2
Exploring the Hospital
Perhaps because Shen Yu stayed with Xie Tu a little longer, when he came out, the other three were already waiting at the door. Zhuang Jie smiled meaningfully, "You seem to be in a good mood."
Shen Yu was indeed in a good mood at the moment, so he nodded, "Not bad."
They didn't say anything more. Zhuang Jie voiced her thoughts, "We can't go to the first floor. While we have this chance, we can thoroughly check the second and third floors. Hopefully, we can find some clues."
"Let's split up," Shen Yu suggested.
Zhuang Jie nodded, "Alright, how do you want to divide?"
Wang Jia Xin immediately said, "I want to go with Shen Yu."
It was an instinctive reliance.
Zhuang Jie hummed, "Then we'll go together," she looked at Yu Cheng Yi.
"She and I will check the second floor, you two go up to the third floor, okay?" Zhuang Jie continued.
Shen Yu had no objections, so they split into two groups and began their investigation.
Wang Jia Xin carefully followed behind Shen Yu. Upon reaching the third floor, Shen Yu said, "Do you want to say something?"
Wang Jia Xin was a little surprised that Shen Yu had seen through her thoughts. She had indeed volunteered to go with Shen Yu because she had something to say, but she had clearly hidden it very well...
"How did you... know?" Wang Jia Xin was a little curious how Shen Yu figured it out.
But Shen Yu said, "I set you up."
Wang Jia Xin: .........
"Then you set me up perfectly." Wang Jia Xin twitched her lips, a little helpless.
"Speak, what is it?" Shen Yu gently pushed open the storage room door in front of them; a dusty smell wafted out.
"It's Xie Tu." Since it had come to this, Wang Jia Xin no longer needed to hide anything.
Shen Yu was a little surprised that Wang Jia Xin was talking to him about Xie Tu again.
He raised an eyebrow slightly, "What about him?"
"Xie Tu is a bit strange," Wang Jia Xin said.
Shen Yu nodded, "He is indeed strange. After all, the last time I saw him, he was still the manager of Yangguang Welfare Institute."
"You know I don't mean that." Wang Jia Xin was a little impatient, "It's just that he's very strange. His gaze towards you... is very strange."
Shen Yu recalled what happened last night, "What kind?"
"Today, when you were talking to Zhuang Jie, the way he looked at you, it was like he was looking at a... how should I put it..." Wang Jia Xin hesitated for a moment, searching for the most suitable words, "Possession, right! It was like he was looking at a possession; he seemed to want to... possess you."
Although she really didn't want to say it, that's what Wang Jia Xin saw.
Shen Yu didn't find it strange either. Xie Tu's actions towards him were already incomprehensible. Perhaps Xie Tu had mistaken him for someone else, but to be excited by his panting, Xie Tu might have other intentions towards that person.
Although Shen Yu had lost his memory, he knew the trajectory of his life over twenty years ago, from elementary school to high school, and until now. He couldn't have had the opportunity to know Xie Tu, because this was his first time in this place, and his first time meeting Xie Tu.
So the only explanation might be that Xie Tu mistook him for someone else? Or had they truly met before? But it certainly wasn't acquaintance here...
"That's just your guess. Currently, he hasn't done anything harmful to me, so you don't need to worry about me for now." Shen Yu patiently comforted Wang Jia Xin, after all, in terms of reason and emotion, Wang Jia Xin was worried about his safety.
"That's good too. His capabilities must not be small. If you're in danger, he might be able to protect you." Wang Jia Xin nodded.
Although he didn't know why Wang Jia Xin thought that way, Shen Yu didn't intend to say anything more. He walked around the storage room twice, found nothing valuable, and then left with Wang Jia Xin.
The third floor was also empty. The rooms here were either storage rooms or places where medical equipment was piled up. That medical equipment was clearly new, yet it was piled up here, hidden from sunlight.
Thinking about it, it was indeed a bit suspicious. This medical equipment wasn't in the operating room, but piled up to collect dust in such a dark and damp place? Although he wasn't a doctor, he knew medical equipment was very expensive. Not to mention maintenance, just piling it up in such a gloomy and damp place, was that really okay?
Finding no useful clues on the third floor, the two had no choice but to sheepishly return to the second floor.
Just then, Yu Cheng Yi and Zhuang Jie had also finished their investigation and returned. The four began to exchange clues.
Zhuang Jie said that besides patient rooms, the second floor was full of locked rooms. She had peeked through the keyholes and saw useless miscellaneous items piled inside, but what intrigued her most was the Head Nurse's office.
There must be many useful clues inside, but unfortunately, they couldn't get in because the door was locked.
"So, we didn't see the Director's office either, right?" Wang Jia Xin brought up the crucial point.
"Not on the second floor," Yu Cheng Yi shook his head.
Shen Yu also shook his head and said, "Not on the third floor either, so it must be on the first floor."
"But we can't go to the first floor," Zhuang Jie spread her hands regretfully.
Shen Yu: "The manual only says we can't go down unless there are special circumstances."
"What are special circumstances?" Wang Jia Xin pressed.
Zhuang Jie: "It depends on the situation; we don't know yet."
Shen Yu affirmed Zhuang Jie's words, "She's right. It's getting late now; let's go back to our rooms first. We'll talk about the rest tonight."
The others also agreed; after all, they had been out for quite a while.
——
Shen Yu habitually prepared to push the door open, but his hand hesitated on the doorknob. He looked through the window; Xie Tu was indeed still awake on the patient bed.
He sat leaning against the bed, tilting his head to look out the window, just looking out the window, with no unnecessary movements. The light from outside cast a warm glow on him, making him look much gentler than usual.
Shen Yu knocked on the door. Seeing Xie Tu turn his head, he pushed the door open and entered.
"You're not asleep?" Shen Yu asked after closing the door.
Xie Tu shook his head, "No need to sleep."
"Alright, if you're not sleeping, I'll take a nap. I'm so sleepy." Shen Yu yawned, then stretched as he walked towards his caretaker's bed.
His shirt slid up slightly, revealing his fair skin, and his firm, slender waist, dazzling under the bright white light. Xie Tu happened to see it.
His expression was a little strange; he finally just quietly lowered his eyes and continued to stare blankly.
——
Shen Yu hadn't slept long when the Head Nurse's voice sounded from outside, saying it was time for patients to sunbathe.
She asked them to quickly prepare and take the patients to the second-floor balcony to sunbathe.
Shen Yu didn't feel this was a place for medical treatment, but more like a nursing home. But since the Head Nurse had said so, Shen Yu and everyone else could only comply.
The balcony was very spacious, planted with all kinds of flowers and plants, with shaded lounge chairs, and tea and pastries on the tables. From this position, one could see the entire surrounding scenery.
Shen Yu also took this opportunity to observe the hospital.
The layout of this hospital was actually very clever. At first glance, it seemed to occupy a large area, but in reality, the only way out was the main gate. Because to the left was the riverbank, to the right were tall fences, and behind it leaned against a mountain, so there was only one road at the main gate that led outside.
Was this hospital to prevent outsiders from entering, or to prevent insiders from escaping? How interesting.
The afternoon sun was quite warm, and the atmosphere was so harmonious that they almost forgot where they were.
Shen Yu greeted Xie Tu, saying he was going to the restroom. Xie Tu said expressionlessly, "You don't need to tell me about this."
"Oh? Then I won't say it again." Shen Yu said casually; he didn't take it to heart.
Entering from the balcony, Shen Yu's vision was still a little blurry. He wasn't actually going to the restroom; he just wanted to take the opportunity to check this area.
As it happened, it was quite a coincidence. When he turned towards the restroom, he bumped into a middle-aged man with a rather poor complexion. Although the other person wasn't fat, his frame was large, and he suddenly rushed forward.
The collision made Shen Yu, who was distracted, stumble back a few steps.
"Sorry." Shen Yu instinctively apologized first.
After seeing the middle-aged man's face, Shen Yu asked with some uncertainty, "Director? Is that the Director?"
Shen Yu had some impression of this face. He had only glanced at him yesterday, but because his state didn't fit this place, Shen Yu had remembered him.
"You're the new caretaker?" The Director pushed up his glasses.
Shen Yu nodded, "Yes, I came here to use the restroom."
"Mm, go ahead, do your job well." The Director made way for Shen Yu. It was clearly daytime, but his face always seemed hidden in shadow; his expression wasn't clear, but it gave people a feeling of inaccessibility.
Shen Yu instinctively disguised himself, smiling, "Yes, Director, I will definitely strive to take good care of my patient."
Hearing Shen Yu's promise, the Director rarely showed a forced smile.
Watching him slowly walk away, Shen Yu frowned.
Was he sick?
This was Shen Yu's first intuition. Then he saw many needle marks on the Director's hand, like traces left after injecting something during an illness.
Shen Yu didn't stay too long. After the Director's figure disappeared, he also returned to the balcony.
——
At dinner, Shen Yu told the other three about his discovery and his speculation about the Director being sick. Everyone looked at each other for a moment, and finally, Shen Yu himself broke the silence, "There's a secret about him. If I get the chance, I'll still go to his office to check."
"That idea is very dangerous," Wang Jia Xin quickly said.
Shen Yu nodded, "I know, so I'll prepare thoroughly before acting."
"No chitchat!" The Head Nurse noticed them gathered together and loudly reminded them.
The four had no choice but to separate.
On the way back, Shen Yu suddenly said solemnly to Yu Cheng Yi, "Tonight, I want to go to the Head Nurse's office. I want to get the patient files."
Yu Cheng Yi scratched his head, "You're going alone?"
"Mm." Shen Yu nodded.
"Isn't that too dangerous? Or should I go with you?" Yu Cheng Yi said worriedly.
Shen Yu shook his head, "No need. Too many people would make it inconvenient to act. I'm just telling you."
Yu Cheng Yi wanted to say something more, but the Head Nurse was already approaching them. Shen Yu waved to him, and Yu Cheng Yi had no choice but to push the door open and enter his room with his patient.
——
Seeing Shen Yu rummaging for something again, Xie Tu asked, "You want to go out?"
"Yes, to find some clues," Shen Yu didn't hide it from him.
Xie Tu was a little unhappy; he frowned, "You want to go again."
"What else? Or perhaps Mr. Xie can give me a hint and tell me how to get out of this instance?" Shen Yu knew Xie Tu's settings didn't allow him to speak, so most of the time, he said it just to see Xie Tu's troubled expression.
Xie Tu indeed refused, "Settings do not allow it."
Shen Yu casually spread his hands, "So, I have to go out and see."
"Suit yourself." Xie Tu actually never intended to stop him.
Shen Yu pulled a piece of tape and stuck it to his hand. As he opened the door to leave, he paused, turned back, and said to Xie Tu's back, "I'm leaving now, Mr. Xie."
Xie Tu didn't reply, and Shen Yu didn't feel anything about it. He immediately left the room and walked towards the Head Nurse's office.
The light in the Head Nurse's office was on; it seemed someone was inside, which made it even more convenient for Shen Yu to act.
He raised his hand and knocked on the door, "Head Nurse, are you in?"
Shen Yu heard a rustling sound inside; the Head Nurse was probably tidying something up.
Not long after, the door suddenly opened. Shen Yu took half a step back, looking at the Head Nurse's displeased face, he feigned an innocent smile.
"What is it?" It seemed the Head Nurse was not swayed by his smile; on the contrary, her tone was very bad.
Shen Yu didn't beat around the bush; he said in an apologetic tone, "Today, I found that I lost the caretaker's manual you gave me. I can't find it anywhere. Do you have any spare copies?"
"You lost even this?" The other person clearly didn't believe Shen Yu.
Shen Yu nodded, his expression saying, "Believe it or not, I lost it anyway."
"It's just those few rules; can't you remember them?" The Head Nurse still felt it was a bit strange.
Shen Yu put on an embarrassed face and said, "I can remember them, but mistakes are unavoidable, and if the patient has any problems then, it wouldn't be good."
The other person was silent for a long time, finally compromising, "Alright, you wait here for me; I'll get you a new one."
"Yes, thank you, Head Nurse." Shen Yu grinned and nodded.
The Head Nurse then walked out the door in her high heels.
Shen Yu lowered his head and took his hand, which had been in his pocket, out. The tape was still stuck to his fingertips. Shen Yu walked to the door, stuck the tape over the bolt, and then obediently stood waiting for her to return.
However, a few seconds later, the Head Nurse, who should have gone to get the manual for Shen Yu, suddenly returned. She said with an expression of sudden realization, "Oh dear, look at my memory, I still have a spare in my drawer."
Her acting skills were truly clumsy. She left and then came back simply to test Shen Yu, to see if Shen Yu had truly lost the caretaker's manual.
But she didn't expect Shen Yu had no intention of acting at this moment.
Shen Yu smiled at her, "It's alright."
The Head Nurse relaxed her guard. She rummaged through her drawer. Shen Yu caught sight of a file in the drawer, "Patient Files."
This was what Shen Yu wanted to see.
The Head Nurse took out a new caretaker's manual from it and handed it to Shen Yu, warning him, "Don't lose it again."
"Yes, I understand." Shen Yu received it with both hands.
