Breaking into the Head Nurse's Office

Chapter 1

Breaking into the Head Nurse's Office

Shen Yu took the caretaker's manual from the Head Nurse and walked back to his room. He acted as if he didn't care about anything else. The Head Nurse followed him out of the room, her eyes fixed on Shen Yu's back, as if she wanted to see through him.

Shen Yu, of course, noticed, but he didn't pay much attention. Back in his room, he closed the door—a series of smooth actions.

He originally thought he would see Xie Tu when he opened the door, but Xie Tu was not in the room. Shen Yu tried searching the room for a while, only to find the window wide open. Shen Yu paused for a moment, thinking that he probably had something personal to do again.

Shen Yu poured himself a glass of water. Hearing footsteps leaving outside, Shen Yu pulled back the window curtain and saw that the Head Nurse had left the second floor. Shen Yu then looked up at the wall clock; it was already 10:30, and he didn't have much time left.

But if he left right now, it would be a bit rushed. Shen Yu decided to stay in the patient room for another half an hour before going out. He went to the small table next to the caretaker's bed, found a pen and a notebook, and sat down.

——

The Head Nurse stopped at the stairs. She was a little cautious, and a little probing, as she turned her head, her eyes fixed on Shen Yu's room door.

About ten minutes passed, and no one came out from inside. She sneered contemptuously, then lowered her head to look at the documents in her hand. On it was Shen Yu's information, from his age to his background, and even the events Shen Yu had experienced at Yangguang Welfare Institute, all meticulously recorded. Most importantly, next to Shen Yu's ID photo was an important note — key observation target of the third world.

It seemed that now, Shen Yu was simply a weakling curious about this place; how could he cause the so-called collapse and paralysis? And they even deliberately sent that person to monitor him?

The Head Nurse thought for a moment, believing that Shen Yu would not leave the room, then she lifted her foot and went down to the first floor.

Just as she left, Shen Yu opened his door and exited the room. Shen Yu poked his head out and looked around, making sure no one was there before leaving the room.

He tried to walk as lightly as possible. He had studied the patient room doors here; they were traditional bolt locks, so by simply sticking tape over the bolt, he could create the illusion that the door was tightly closed, but in reality, it could be pushed open with a little force.

Shen Yu grabbed the doorknob and pushed hard. With a "click," the door opened.

He quickly went in and closed the door, using only the flashlight he carried to illuminate the room.

He remembered seeing the patient files in the drawer. He came here with only one purpose: to find out what diseases these patients actually had.

Shen Yu had looked at the medicines Xie Tu had to take. Just by looking at the names and usage, he had no idea what illnesses they were for; most were for body conditioning, blood and qi tonics.

Shen Yu quickly found the patient files. But unfortunately, Shen Yu did not find any information about their current illnesses there. However, they all had one thing in common: they had all suffered from a similar illness.

It was called chronic hollow cortical encephalitis, also known as a medical history.

Could this place be for their physical recuperation? But that day, the person named Yang Wei was clearly dragged away for surgery...

Moreover, what would the symptoms of this disease be like? Why did they all have a history of this illness?

Countless questions rained down on Shen Yu. He quickly scanned through everyone's files, looking for Xie Tu's, but it wasn't there.

Shen Yu didn't find it strange; after all, Xie Tu was different from the other patients here.

He put the files back in their original place, then went to other areas to search. It seemed the most valuable thing in this room was that file; Shen Yu found no further useful information.

Just as he was about to go back the way he came, Shen Yu heard the clinking of keys outside.

Without time to think, Shen Yu went to the cabinet in the corner of the room, hid inside, and turned off his flashlight.

Two people entered. Shen Yu couldn't see outside. It was very dark inside the cabinet, with no trace of light. Shen Yu could only distinguish by sound.

The first to speak was the Head Nurse: "The patients' emotional states are currently stable. Based on the blood test reports from the past few days, this patient's indicators have met the requirements."

The other person remained silent, not speaking.

Shen Yu sat leaning against the cabinet, listening to his heart pound like thunder in his ears. He placed his hand on his chest, trying to keep his breathing steady, without any unnecessary movements.

"I'll arrange the surgery soon; you should prepare too." The Head Nurse continued.

The other person grunted an "mm," then said, "That person named Shen Yu, hasn't he done anything unusual?" The other person finally spoke, and it was the Director's voice!

Hearing his name mentioned, Shen Yu focused even more.

"There are no major problems at the moment, and 'the random individual' is still monitoring him, so you can rest assured." The Head Nurse clearly did not believe Shen Yu would pose any threat.

Her tone was full of contempt.

The Director showed no emotion, grunting an "mm," then said, "Has Fang Pian A still not been found?"

"Probably not; headquarters has no news." The Head Nurse said.

"If I could use 'the random individual,' it would be great; I wouldn't have suffered so much..." Listening to his voice, the Director seemed a little desperate.

The Head Nurse: "I advise you not to have any ideas about it. Fang Pian is not to be trifled with, and Mister values him the most."

"Do I need you to remind me?" The Director's voice suddenly dropped a tone.

The Head Nurse immediately fell silent.

"In short, your side must not let down your guard. Headquarters has listed him as a key observation target, perhaps not just because of the collapse of 'Yangguang Welfare Institute'." The Director's voice became hoarse again.

"Alright, I'll pay more attention to him too." The Head Nurse replied.

Shen Yu listened as if lost in a fog. What random individual, what Fang Pian? And Mister?

Aside from Fang Pian, "the random individual," and "Mister," he had seen them in the experimental manual in Director Bi's office at the Welfare Institute, but that manual had been almost completely destroyed, so Shen Yu didn't gain much useful information.

Now, eavesdropping on this bit of information not only failed to resolve his doubts but made Shen Yu even more confused.

Shen Yu pricked up his ears to listen further, but there was no more talking outside. Shen Yu heard someone leave; it must have been the Director, as the footsteps were very heavy.

The Head Nurse stayed to tidy her desk. When she pulled out a drawer, she suddenly froze, looking at the slightly shifted items. She was sure someone had been here. Unfortunately, she was naturally very sensitive to these small details.

The Head Nurse's eyes quickly scanned everywhere, finally stopping at the cabinet where Shen Yu was hiding. Shen Yu heard the sound of high heels approaching him.

His breathing was tense, sweat pouring from his temples.

When the footsteps were only half a meter away from him, a voice suddenly sounded at the door.

"Head Nurse, Head Nurse!!" It was Yu Cheng Yi's voice!

The Head Nurse's footsteps stopped. She turned to look at the person at the door, "What's wrong?"

Yu Cheng Yi was so anxious he couldn't speak clearly, "My, my patient, my patient is missing!"

"Missing?!" The Head Nurse's voice immediately became sharp. She clacked her high heels to the door, her face incredulous as she questioned Yu Cheng Yi.

Yu Cheng Yi was scared by the Head Nurse's fierce expression; he shrank his neck a little, "It's true! I just woke up from a nap, intending to check on him, but he was gone!"

The Head Nurse turned her head to look back at the cabinet, finally stomping her foot in anger and ordering, "Take me to see!"

Yu Cheng Yi nodded repeatedly, leading the way for the Head Nurse.

Shen Yu heard the sounds fading away, quickly crawled out of the cabinet, then poked his head out the door to observe. Seeing that the Head Nurse had entered Yu Cheng Yi's room, he quickly ran in the opposite direction, to the restroom.

At this moment, he suddenly felt very lucky that he had warned Yu Cheng Yi beforehand.

——

Yu Cheng Yi led the Head Nurse to the room, where someone was standing there, looking dazed.

It was Yu Cheng Yi's patient!

The Head Nurse's face turned dark as she looked at Yu Cheng Yi, her expression saying, "If you don't explain, you're dead."

Yu Cheng Yi ignored her expression, quickly ran to grab the patient's hand and asked, "Where did you go? I was looking for you everywhere!"

The patient was a little surprised; he explained, "I just went to the restroom."

"Why didn't you tell me you were going to the restroom!" Yu Cheng Yi feigned great distress.

"At that time, weren't you..." Before he could finish, Yu Cheng Yi interrupted him, "Why did you disappear after a nap! You scared me to death!"

"No... I..." The patient seemed to have something to say, but Yu Cheng Yi gave him no chance, "Anyway, it's good that you're found. Next time you go anywhere, you must call me; you scared me to death!"

The patient wanted to speak again, but Yu Cheng Yi let go of his hand and walked up to the Head Nurse, "You see, he's found. I'm sorry to have troubled you to come here."

"I was sleeping over there, woke up in the middle of the night to check if he was covered properly, and as soon as I turned on the light, oh! He was gone! Turns out he went to the restroom." Yu Cheng Yi chuckled, looking both silly and naive, truly making it impossible to tell if he was doing it on purpose or truly unintentionally.

"Really?" The Head Nurse still asked again, disbelieving.

"Of course, why would I lie to you?" Yu Cheng Yi patted his chest to assure her.

The Head Nurse finally relented. She withdrew her suspicious gaze and said, "Don't let something like this happen again."

"Yes, understood, Head Nurse Madam!" Yu Cheng Yi lightly punched his chest, "Hehe, look at him, he was even shy about calling me when he went to the restroom."

The Head Nurse glanced at him and then turned to leave.

Yu Cheng Yi breathed a sigh of relief, turned back to the patient, gently patted his shoulder, and said, "You've worked hard, go to sleep."

It wasn't in vain that he had given him so much water. Thinking back, Shen Yu must have returned by now.

He couldn't understand it. He had clearly called him, but he himself was sleeping like a log and didn't hear. Why did he say he was running around? The patient was a little angry but didn't want to say much.

Yu Cheng Yi quickly made the bed again, letting him go back to sleep.

Just as he thought of Shen Yu, the room door was knocked. Yu Cheng Yi turned around; Shen Yu was standing perfectly fine at the door.

Yu Cheng Yi didn't care about anything else and rushed over, hooking one arm around Shen Yu's, saying with distress, "You don't know, you scared me to death."

"I waited for you at the door, saw you weren't coming back, and then the Head Nurse and a man walked by and you still weren't back, so I quickly found a way." Yu Cheng Yi pulled the door shut while pretending to wipe away tears; after all, some words couldn't be heard by the person inside.

At this moment, Shen Yu was also very grateful to Yu Cheng Yi, "How did you do it?"

"It was him..." Yu Cheng Yi glanced behind him, indicating the person inside, then lowered his voice, "I gave him a lot of water, and then he wanted to go to the restroom. I pretended not to hear, and he couldn't hold it, so he went himself."

This was what Yu Cheng Yi had done. Shen Yu chuckled, then said with a hint of apology, "What you did was quite dangerous. If something unexpected happened to him in the restroom..."

That's right; after all, the caretaker's manual said they had to pay attention to the patient's safety.

"I didn't think that much; I was just afraid something would happen to you." Yu Cheng Yi chuckled, looking innocent.

Shen Yu sincerely thanked him, "This time, I'm lucky to have you."

"Alright, alright, who told you you're my brother? You go back first; we'll talk about other things tomorrow. It's almost 12 o'clock." Yu Cheng Yi turned to look at the wall clock; everyone must be sound asleep by now.
