Chapter 3
The Vote
The longer she lived in this place, the more she understood the importance of the tribe. Although the beastmen treated her very well now, she still wanted a more secure guarantee.
The clan chief was stunned for a moment. He really wanted to say that as long as Lin Ye became Yang's mate, she would naturally be a member of their tribe.
But Lin Ye had made it very clear that she had no intention of becoming Yang's mate.
Thinking of this, the clan chief glared at Yang, feeling frustrated that his son was not living up to expectations. To have not conquered that small female after so long, he truly lacked his father's style from back in the day! Remembering his youth, he had been the most popular man in the Miao Tribe, with countless females wanting to mate with him. At his son's current age, he already had children, yet this son of his was still single. Truly, each generation was worse than the last!
After sighing inwardly for a moment, the clan chief said, "Alright, tomorrow I will hold a gathering at the clearing and speak to the clansmen about this."
...
The following evening, while the beastmen were receiving meat at the clearing, the clan chief held a gathering. He announced the plan to build thatched cottages and asked for their opinions on whether they agreed to accept Lin Ye as a member of the Miao Tribe.
Since the beastmen still did not know what a thatched cottage was, the clan chief had them visit Yang's place to take a look first, allowing them to decide for themselves whether they wanted to build houses.
As soon as the clan chief finished speaking, everyone began to chatter. The majority of the beastmen took a wait-and-see attitude, with only a few opposing.
A small number of beastmen, led by Tian and He, voiced their opposition.
Tian sneered, "Isn't living in the caves perfectly fine? On what basis are you forcing us to move!"
The clan chief said gently, "I never said it was mandatory for everyone to leave the caves. As I just mentioned, whoever wants to live in a thatched cottage will build one, and whoever doesn't will remain as they are. It is entirely voluntary."
Tian scoffed, "What even is this thatched cottage? We've never even heard of it, yet you want us to live in it. Who knows what your intentions are. And as for that small female, I absolutely do not agree to let her join our tribe."
Lin Ye, who had been standing silently aside, suddenly smiled. She curled her lips and said, "As long as more than half of the beastmen agree, it's fine. I don't care whether you agree or not."
"Small stature, but quite a big mouth." He crossed his arms and glanced at Lin Ye. "I'd like to see what method you can use to make everyone agree to let you join the tribe."
Lin Ye shrugged, "Then let's wait and see."
He frowned in confusion. What did she mean by "wait and see"?
The clan chief ignoring the disruption from Tian and He, said to the beastmen, "You can go look at Yang's thatched cottage first. Let me know your decision by tomorrow evening."
...
Ever since the clan chief announced the construction of thatched cottages, Yang's once-quiet cave had suddenly become a sightseeing spot for many beastmen.
The beastmen, having never seen a thatched cottage before, were extremely curious. They gathered around Lin Ye, chattering away with all sorts of questions.
But Lin Ye didn't find it troublesome; on the contrary, she was very happy. Having questions proved they were highly interested in the thatched cottages.
Some beastmen, wanting to test the sturdiness of the house, even used their strength to push against it.
Lin Ye: "..."
Fortunately, this house was built relatively sturdily. Otherwise, with one person pushing and another pulling, it would have collapsed long ago.
By evening, the beastmen gathered at the clearing once again.
Everyone felt extremely excited about living in thatched cottages, whispering and discussing among themselves below.
The clan chief cleared his throat and said loudly, "Those who agree to build thatched cottages, stand on my side. Those who disagree, stand on the other side."
The beastmen quickly chose their positions.
To them, living in a thatched cottage was a novel concept, and building one didn't mean they couldn't live in the caves anymore. There was nothing to lose, so many beastmen stood on the clan chief's side.
Tian and He stood on the opposite side, accompanied by a few conservative beastmen, but their numbers were clearly much smaller.
The result was obvious without saying.
Tian and He were so angry that their faces contorted.
The clan chief continued, "If you agree to let Lin Ye become our clansman, stand on my side. If you disagree, stand on the other side."
At this moment, Lin Ye also felt a bit anxious, wondering if the beastmen of the Miao Tribe would agree to let her become one of them.
After a round of discussion, the beastmen began to choose their positions again.
Lin Ye watched them move back and forth, her palms slick with cold sweat. Beside her, Yang gently grasped her hand, silently offering his support.
Finally, everyone found their places.
The beastmen were divided into two groups. The result was just like before: the number of people who agreed to let Lin Ye join the Miao Tribe was significantly larger.
They couldn't very well live in houses built with Lin Ye's help while still treating her as an outsider.
