Chapter 1
The Human Race
At first, Lin Ye hesitated about whether to leave her colleagues' backpacks behind, but after some thought, she decided to take them all.
Their disappearance was extremely strange, as if they had evaporated into thin air. She had been wandering around here for several hours; if they were going to appear, they would have appeared by now.
Furthermore, these beastmen scattered everywhere to hunt. She had just asked those who ran in from different directions, and no one had seen her friends. This proved they were not nearby, so the possibility of them returning here to get the backpacks was extremely small.
However, as a precaution, Lin Ye still carved a symbol onto a tree trunk, letting them know she had taken their backpacks out of the forest.
The researchers from the institute all had very rich wilderness survival experience. As long as they didn't encounter dangerous wild beasts, even without their backpacks, safely exiting the forest would certainly not be a problem.
Hearing that the female wanted to go with them, the beastmen were all very excited. They enthusiastically wanted to help Lin Ye carry the backpacks scattered on the ground, but they were driven away by Yang’s darkened face.
His female’s things should, of course, be carried by him personally!
Therefore, he let them carry the large wild boar while he hung bags of all sizes all over his body.
Although she had seen his boar-hunting posture earlier and knew he was very strong, and that carrying a few backpacks was no problem at all, these were her things after all. Letting him carry everything didn't feel right. She intended to take two backpacks from him to share the burden.
Yang leaned away from her hand, frowning as he said, "With that small body of yours, don't try to be brave."
Hearing Yang's words, Lin Ye instinctively looked down at herself. In all her years of living, this was the first time someone had called her small!
But when her gaze swept over the tall figures of the beastmen, she silently swallowed the words she was about to say.
In front of them, her height of one meter seventy-five was indeed only worthy of being called a petite female.
The beastman named Shi, standing next to Yang, laughed heartily and said to her, "That's right, with several of us beastmen here, how could we let a female do heavy work?"
In their hearts, females were fragile creatures that needed to be protected. Therefore, they would do their best to help with anything they could.
Seeing their insistence on not letting her help, Lin Ye gave up.
Although her time interacting with these beastmen was short, Lin Ye could feel their kindness and honesty, which made her feel somewhat more at ease. At least they had no intention of harming her.
She had been silently observing their route out of the forest and discovered that the direction was exactly the same as when her group had entered. She just didn't know why, but she constantly felt as if they were walking in circles and returning to the starting point, like encountering a "Ghost Hitting the Wall" phenomenon.
Even though Lin Ye was a PhD in biology, she still believed in many things that science could not yet explain, at least for the time being.
Finally emerging from that cycle, Lin Ye breathed a silent sigh of relief. When she saw that the path they were taking and the path the research team took into the forest were the same, her heart grew even more joyful. As long as she got out of this forest, she would be safe; then she could find a place with a signal to call for help.
After relaxing, she was in the mood to ask the beastmen about their tribe.
The Shi Luan Mountain Range was a range in southern Hua Xia, with a total area of over three thousand square kilometers and a forest area of nearly five million acres, of which primary forest accounted for about eight hundred thousand acres. The beastmen might be a species that existed but had never been discovered in this ancient primary forest. As a PhD in biology, Lin Ye naturally understood their research value, but she also knew that once their existence was discovered, disaster would surely follow. Therefore, she had no intention of revealing the existence of the beastmen to the world.
But as a scientific researcher, she was still extremely interested in these beastmen and wanted to take this opportunity to learn more about them.
The beastmen were also very happy to chat with her, answering almost everything she asked.
Through the conversation, Lin Ye learned they were beastmen of the Miao Tribe. In addition, there were the Quan Tribe, Lang Tribe, Hu Tribe, Xiong Tribe, and even the She Tribe, among many others.
Each beast tribe formed its own separate tribe, distributed in different places, without disturbing one another.
Based on the tools they used, their methods of gathering food, and their living environment, Lin Ye speculated that their level of production was probably equivalent to the middle of the Stone Age.
She couldn't help but sigh in her heart; the Stone Age was such a distant era.
But from their strong, tall bodies exceeding two meters, it could be seen that their level of physical development was much better than that of humans in modern society.
While Lin Ye was interested in the beastmen, they were naturally also extremely interested in her.
Yang felt that if Lin Ye were to become his mate in the future, they must understand each other. So, he asked, "Lin Ye, which tribe are you from?"
Yang searched his memory but still couldn't think of which tribe's female could be as small and delicate as her.
Or was this female born fragile?
Lin Ye thought seriously and then said, "If we go by your way of speaking, perhaps I come from the Human Race."
The Human Race?
The beastmen looked at each other, their eyes filled with confusion. They seemed to have never heard of a tribe called the "Human Race."
