Chapter 33
Strange
Lin Ye explained, "We are the Human Race, a tribe without animal forms. We are born in human shape."
The beastmen had never heard of a tribe without animal forms, so they became even more curious about Lin Ye, eagerly asking her questions about the Human Race.
They were all fascinated by this new race. As they walked and talked, it didn't feel like much time had passed before they reached the edge of the forest.
Seeing the familiar scenery, Lin Ye’s heart gradually steadied. Once they left this area, there would be a large mountain; crossing that mountain and walking for about another hour would lead to a populated village.
Though the road was still long, she could finally see the dawn of victory!
Suddenly, her ears twitched; she seemed to hear the sound of flowing water.
Seeing her frown, Yang asked, "Lin Ye, what’s wrong?"
Lin Ye doubted she had heard correctly and asked Yang, "Do you hear the sound of water?"
Yang nodded. "Yes, there’s a river ahead."
Lin Ye was stunned. That was impossible. There was clearly only a mountain ahead; how could there be a river?
She clenched her fists, her palms drenched in sweat, her legs trembling slightly, and her face turning pale. She had a feeling that something beyond her control was about to happen.
Yang noticed her poor complexion and asked, "What happened to you?"
She looked unwell; could her body be uncomfortable?
He looked down at Lin Ye’s trembling legs, and his brow immediately furrowed. Could she be tired from walking so much?
Females of the Human Race were indeed fragile; she was tired after only a few steps. Even the weakest female in their Miao Tribe wasn't like this.
Too fragile!
Lin Ye composed herself and shook her head at Yang. Just as she was about to say she was fine, she heard him call out to the two beastmen walking ahead.
"Da Shan, Shi, help me carry some things."
Then, he tossed all the backpacks he was carrying to them.
Before Lin Ye could react, she felt the world spin, her body suddenly becoming light as she was lifted into the air.
In a panic, she instinctively grabbed the nearest thing, only then realizing she was being held by Yang in a princess carry, her arms tightly encircling his neck.
"Yang, what are you doing? Put me down quickly!"
Lin Ye struggled, her fist clenching to punch Yang’s shoulder, but she was wary of his injuries and didn't dare use much force.
She was truly not used to such intimacy with men, let alone a strange man who was half-naked.
Lin Ye’s punch was like an itch to Yang, completely harmless. He felt that a cub’s scratch was stronger than her, while her arm had already turned red from hitting his solid muscles.
Yang completely ignored her struggling. He held her tighter and said, "Don't move around, what if you fall?"
Though he said that, the female in his arms was very light; how could he let her fall?
This was the first time he had been in such close contact with a female. Even after walking for several hours on mountain roads, and though her body was lightly perspiring, she didn't have the unpleasant odor of the females in their tribe.
The Miao Tribe’s sense of smell was very keen, especially at this distance; he could smell a faint fragrance on her. Although he didn't know what it was, he found it very pleasant—a scent that made one feel relaxed.
Moreover, the female looked very thin, but she was incredibly soft to hold. For the first time, Yang felt that the idea of this female becoming his mate was no longer so difficult to accept.
Contrary to Yang’s happy mood, Lin Ye was extremely frustrated. She punched his shoulder twice more and said irritably, "Put me down quickly, I can walk by myself."
"You walk too slowly," Yang said.
Hearing this, she instinctively looked ahead. Sure enough, they had been left quite a distance behind by the other beastmen.
Even though Lin Ye’s stamina was considered good among girls, she was far inferior to the powerfully built beastmen. One of their steps was equal to two of hers. At first, she had barely managed to keep up, but later the distance had grown wider and wider.
Faced with the truth, Lin Ye had nothing left to say, especially since she really was very tired. She reluctantly compromised and let Yang carry her.
But in her heart, she comforted herself; fortunately, they were about to leave the forest, so she wouldn't have to endure this for much longer.
The further they went, the sparser the trees became, and the scenery grew brighter. Lin Ye widened her eyes at the view, her face filled with disbelief.
Ahead was a vast, rushing river, and the large mountain they had crossed when they arrived had vanished without a trace.
She stiffly turned to look at her surroundings. The scenery here was very familiar; she still remembered the cut bamboo stalks nearby that Old Zhao had cleared because they blocked the path. Every sign indicated that this was the entrance to the forest where they had arrived, but why was there an additional river here, and where had that large mountain gone?
