Chapter 29
Transmigrating Back to 1994 (10)
"Who is it?"
In the main room, the three kidnappers instantly stood up.
But at that exact moment, Shen Jianshe kicked open the door of the main room and rushed in with the others.
"Freeze! Police!"
"Everyone, put your hands on your heads and sit down!"
Suddenly facing five dark gun barrels, the three kidnappers in the main room were instantly stunned.
But the two middle-aged kidnappers quickly recovered their senses, reaching for their waists.
Shen Jianshe and another officer immediately aimed their guns at them, shouting, "Drop the knives! Or I'll shoot!"
At the same time, Lian Chi broke through the window of the adjacent room, grabbed the injured arm of the middle-aged man, and slammed him to the ground. His agonizing scream echoed, striking terror into the remaining men in the main room.
In the end, the two middle-aged kidnappers pulled out handguns hidden on their persons and threw them to the ground.
The pupils of Shen Jianshe and his colleagues contracted.
These kidnappers actually had guns?
Shen Jianshe handcuffed them. "Is there another accomplice who went to collect the ransom? Does he have a gun?"
The three kidnappers exchanged glances and remained silent.
Obviously, they were still dreaming of their accomplice returning with the money, discovering something was wrong, and playing the hero to rescue them.
But the members of the General Platoon had years of experience and knew exactly how to break their psychological defenses to extract information.
One officer shoved his gun barrel into the young kidnapper's mouth.
"Are you going to talk or not?"
"If you don't talk, I'll knock out every single one of your teeth and blow your brains out."
"After all, only we are here. If we say you were shot dead during a struggle, no one will doubt it."
As he spoke, he poked the young kidnapper's front teeth with the gun barrel.
His acting was so convincing and his gaze so fierce that even Shen Jianshe was startled, let alone the kidnapper.
The young kidnapper's eyes widened, and he shook his head frantically. "No, we only managed to buy these two guns. They're both here."
The other two kidnappers glared at him, about to curse, but Shen Jianshe wouldn't have it. He grabbed two filthy black rags from the table and stuffed them into their mouths.
Meanwhile, Lian Chi had untied Little Du.
He held the trembling Little Du, ignoring the dirt on the boy's body, and gently patted his back. "We are the police, we've come to save you. You're safe now, don't be afraid."
Perhaps Lian Chi's voice was too warm, or his broad shoulders provided a sense of security, but soon Little Du's breathing stabilized, though his small hands still tightly gripped Lian Chi's lapel.
Sure enough, a dozen minutes later, a middle-aged man arrived in front of the house on a motorcycle.
But he was also quite clever. Seeing the house lit up but hearing no one talking or coming out to greet him, half of the joyful expression on his face vanished.
He quickly parked the bike, kicked down the stand, and prepared to leave.
Seeing this from behind the corner of the wall, Lian Chi scaled the wall, chased after the middle-aged man, and leaped down.
The middle-aged man was pinned to the ground by him, while the motorcycle crashed into the wall.
The middle-aged man panicked and tried to kick Lian Chi off, but before he could move, five gun barrels were pointed at him: "Freeze!"
He could only raise his hands in terror.
As for Captain Peng, after much effort, they finally managed to wake Du Zhiqiang up.
Du Zhiqiang sat flat on the ground, muttering, "I was just dreaming, right?"
But looking at the awkward expressions of Captain Peng and the others, he knew he wasn't dreaming.
He burst into tears: "My son!"
Then, as if remembering something, he hurriedly took out his pager and messaged the kidnappers: "Please don't hurt my son! As long as you release him, I will do whatever you want. I still have an old house in my hometown, I'll sell it and give you the money."
But another five minutes passed, and there was still no reply.
The pager slipped and fell to the ground.
Captain Peng felt extremely guilty toward Du Zhiqiang, but now he could only say, "Comrade Du, perhaps the kidnappers have already released your son. Rest assured, we will do our utmost to search for Little Du..."
Du Zhiqiang, who had momentarily forgotten about them, felt his anger flare up again upon hearing Captain Peng's words: "You still dare to speak! Didn't you promise earlier that you would definitely bring my son back safely?"
But before he could finish, Captain Peng's pager rang: "Captain, this is the General Platoon. We have arrested all five kidnappers, safely rescued the hostage Chen Du, and recovered all the ransom money."
Captain Peng: "Huh?"
Du Zhiqiang: "Huh?"
The First Criminal Investigation Squad interrogated the five kidnappers overnight, and they quickly confessed to all their crimes.
The leader of this kidnapping ring had been sentenced to twenty years in prison for stabbing someone to death in a brawl eighteen years ago, having only been released three years prior.
He met his two underlings, Number Two and Number Three, shortly after his release.
Number Two and Number Three had dropped out of middle school and started drifting in society, but without success. They teamed up with the leader, bringing in two other friends, Number Four and Number Five, to commit thefts.
But gradually, simple theft could no longer satisfy their twisted minds, and they began turning to robbery and murder.
Over the past two years, they had committed more than twenty cases in Mao Province and the border regions.
However, with rising prices, they felt the money from robberies was not enough for daily expenses. Since people had the habit of depositing money in banks rather than keeping cash at home, they came up with the idea of kidnapping the children of wealthy families for ransom.
This case was the first time they had put that plan into action.
They had no grudge against Du Zhiqiang. The reason they targeted him was because they heard he had made a lot of money in recent years, not only buying a new house but also a car, so they saw him as a lucrative target.
The Santana they used was taken from De City in Liu Province. The owner was a friend of a university teacher named Chen Jiashou. Since Chen Jiashou was not well-off and was currently courting, his friend had lent him the Santana. The five kidnappers had murdered Chen Jiashou's entire family and stolen the car.
The pager was also obtained in the same manner.
They rented two adjacent courtyard houses in a secluded area near the kindergarten. The Santana was hidden in one of the houses, covered with miscellaneous items, and the door was locked. When Criminal Investigation Platoon 2 arrived, they came out from the other house and claimed that this house had been vacant for a long time, causing Platoon 2 to overlook a thorough inspection.
Shen Jianshe asked, "Do you know how many people they've killed over the years?"
Without waiting for Lian Chi and the others to reply, he continued, "Thirty-four verified victims."
"Among them were six elderly people and four children."
"Because Number Four said he had never tasted human meat and wondered what it tasted like, they chopped a three-year-old child's corpse into small pieces and made dumplings out of it..."
Hearing this, Yang Yiran's face turned pale.
Lian Chi's throat also tightened.
He wanted to take back his previous words.
He should have aimed his shots even better.
