Chapter 51
Genius Top Student: Worse Than a Beast
The police took everyone back to the station, including the convenience store owner, the neighbors, and the taxi driver, who carried his watermelon knife and strutted like a proud peacock.
"I was the one who made the call. That fair-skinned, plump girl threw a small note. At the time, I thought it was a joke and didn't pay attention, but then I feared it might be real, so I called the Medical Academy. The person who answered was an idiot; they didn't speak for ages, so I hung up," the owner said.
He Yufei gritted her teeth, glaring angrily at the owner, and shouted, "You were speaking the local dialect and talking so fast! It sounded like Japanese. How was I supposed to understand?"
"Then you should learn the local tongue since you're in Hucheng!" the owner retorted logically, making He Yufei roll her eyes, unwilling to argue further.
The police were questioning Jiang Hanyan because they had found out that the person who used underwear to track someone was this beautiful student.
"Was it really found through fortune-telling?" the officer asked curiously.
"No, we must believe in science!"
Jiang Hanyan denied it immediately. She couldn't go around promoting feudal superstitions.
"Then how did you know they were to the southeast? And how did you know the alley's name had the word 'Tie' in it?"
"Just a lucky guess. I've had a natural gift since I was a child. My intuition is exceptionally sharp sometimes, and sometimes it's not. Anyway, it was just a shot in the dark, like a blind cat catching a dead rat," Jiang Hanyan said with a smile, making things up.
The officer looked skeptical; even a ghost wouldn't believe that lie.
However, Jiang Hanyan and her group were indeed not suspects; they were all students from the Medical Academy.
After finishing their statements, Jiang Hanyan and her friends were allowed to return to school. The child and the victimized woman were taken to the hospital, and others would be put in touch with their families.
"Officer, if those children can't find their parents, you can come to me for help!"
Before leaving, Jiang Hanyan said with a smile. Children that young would find it hard to give their exact home addresses, and with information networks still underdeveloped, finding people was difficult.
She could help with a quatrain, free of charge.
"Thanks!"
The officer didn't take it to heart, thinking she was joking. If fortune-telling were that powerful, why would they need the police?
After the busy night, it was very late. The police drove them back to school. Liu Lingna had changed into dry clothes provided by a kind policewoman, but her eyes were still swollen and red.
Jiang Hanyan's gaze swept over her eyes, and Liu Lingna immediately felt a wave of coolness.
"My eyes feel much better," Liu Lingna cried out in surprise. She could see everything clearly, and the discomfort was gone.
"I pressed an acupoint for you. Don't read tonight; get some rest early," Jiang Hanyan said with a smile. In truth, she had applied a bit of Spirit Spring water—not much, just enough to reduce the swelling and brighten her eyes. Liu Lingna's nearsightedness would likely improve as well.
"Hanyan, you're amazing!"
Liu Lingna praised her incessantly, looking at Jiang Hanyan with worship and gratitude, much like Yuan Shidong, treating her like a goddess.
"I only know a little. You all will be very amazing in the future too," Jiang Hanyan said.
With Liu Lingna's diligence and hard work, she would undoubtedly become an excellent doctor.
They dropped off Liu Lingna and the others at the school first before heading home. The taxi driver still refused to take money: "Tonight I finally got to act as a hero. No money needed!"
In the future, he could brag to his friends. Who else could be like him, taking down a human trafficking gang with just a watermelon knife?
In all of Hucheng's taxi drivers, he was probably the only one, right?
This honor was worth more than any amount of money.
As the driver started the car, Lu Chen tossed a hundred-yuan bill inside. They had wasted the driver's entire evening; it would be wrong not to pay.
The apartment complex was quiet; most people were already asleep. Dou Dou was asleep too. Jiang Hanyan was exhausted; after a bath, she went straight to bed. Tomorrow she had to make time to go to Lu Tianlang's place to open an account.
Lu Chen brought the scent of water to the bed, familiarly pulling her into his arms before falling into a deep sleep.
The next morning was another busy day. Waking up late, Jiang Hanyan didn't make breakfast, letting Dou Dou go buy something. She took three portions of food from her space for Dou Dou, Lu Chen, and herself to take to school.
That morning, she had specifically made stir-fried eggs with century eggs and chili. The chilies grown in the space were delicious no matter how they were cooked. Once prepared and placed in the space, the flavor remained exactly as it was when fresh; the preservation function was incredibly strong.
There were many classes in the morning, so Jiang Hanyan skipped an unimportant one and ran to Lu Tianlang's to open an account. She bought two selected stocks, finishing just as the class ended.
At lunch, Jiang Hanyan took out the stir-fried eggs with century eggs and chili. It was black and looked a bit unappetizing.
"Don't judge a book by its cover. Once you try this, I guarantee you'll love it," Jiang Hanyan said with a smile.
Sheng Baojun took a small bite, chewed, and her eyes brightened. She nodded repeatedly: "It's delicious! I didn't know chili could be stir-fried with century eggs. It's wonderful."
With her as a live advertisement, Chu Yuxin and Ji Weiba both scrambled for a taste, and the lunch box was quickly emptied.
"It really is good. I can eat two portions of rice now. My parents didn't believe it, but now they don't object to me staying in the dorm anymore."
Chu Yuxin's complexion looked much better now, with a bit more meat on her face. She looked much prettier than when she first enrolled, but her "poisoning" was deep; eating space vegetables alone wouldn't cure the root cause.
"Cough, cough..."
Chu Yuxin covered her mouth and turned away to cough lightly.
"Do you have a cold?" Jiang Hanyan asked.
Chu Yuxin shook her head. "No, my throat is just a bit itchy. It started last night. Maybe I accidentally ate something bad again?"
She was often like this—sometimes coughing, sometimes diarrhea, or being unable to catch her breath, even fainting. Hospital checks found nothing, only saying her immunity was low and telling her to strengthen her resistance.
Jiang Hanyan frowned slightly and asked, "Have you been this frail since birth?"
"You could say that. I was a premature baby, but before I was eight, my health was fine. I could eat, sleep, and jump around. But at eight, I suddenly became a regular at the hospital, often catching strange illnesses. Doctors couldn't find the cause, just told me to stay in bed. The place I've spent the most time is the hospital, even longer than at home."
Chu Yuxin smiled self-deprecatingly.
"Then how did you go to school?" Tian Xinxin asked.
"I self-studied at home and went to school for the final exams."
As Chu Yuxin spoke, she noticed her roommates' expressions had turned strange, looking at her with very complex gazes.
"What was your college entrance exam score?" Ji Weiba asked.
"Not high, six hundred and fifty or sixty something. I forgot."
Chu Yuxin's tone was casual, but the listeners felt a pang of distress.
To self-study at home and get such a high score while they slaved away at school every day and still didn't reach that mark...
Especially Tian Xinxin; she felt her heart had been hit by ten thousand points of damage.
"Did you hire a tutor?"
Chu Yuxin shook her head. "No. The school's exam questions were all very simple. I just looked at them myself."
This time even Sheng Baojun couldn't take it. Were these even the words of a human?
Truly worse than a beast!
