Chapter 16
Brother Chen, You're a Master at Eating Soft Rice
Although Lu Cheng was terrible at studying, he was excellent at socializing. He knew basically everyone of note in Fucheng, and the Lei San couple was naturally no exception. In fact, he had a pretty good relationship with Third Sister-in-Law.
"Lei San is too stupid. As long as he didn't make any bastard children, Third Sister-in-Law wouldn't care even if he kept seventeen or eighteen women outside. But he just had to run into a dead end. Hmph, of course Third Sister-in-Law wouldn't take that lying down," Lu Cheng said with a mocking expression.
"How is Lei San doing now?" Jiang Hanyan walked out of the kitchen holding a spatula, asking with interest.
She fully supported Third Sister-in-Law on this matter. Lei San was indeed an ungrateful wretch. He had made his fortune relying on his wife, yet he had the audacity to despise her for not giving him a son. He deserved to be taught a lesson.
"That loser. His coal mine was investigated for financial issues and ordered to suspend operations for rectification. It's basically bankrupt now. Lei San's underground casino was also reported and raided. If Third Sister-in-Law hadn't been worried about affecting their daughter's future prospects, Lei San would be behind bars right now. He regrets it now and wants to get back together with her, but she refuses to see him. She just sent a message telling him to live happily with his mistress and raise a fat son to inherit the Lei family's vast fortune," Lu Cheng laughed.
"Pfft!"
Jiang Hanyan couldn't help but burst out laughing. Third Sister-in-Law's personality was right up her alley—decisive, neat, and ruthless when dealing with scumbags like Lei San.
Although she no longer had income from the coal mine and the casino, Third Sister-in-Law had certainly accumulated a lot of wealth over the years. She also had a stable job, which was more than enough to raise her two daughters comfortably. She would definitely live a life ten thousand times better than Lei San's.
"Lei San brought this on himself. He made a bit of money and forgot who he was. Without Third Sister-in-Law, what would a guy like him even be!" Lu Cheng snorted disdainfully.
"Go buy some cold cuts—pig ears, chicken feet, roasted peanuts, and a few bottles of cold beer!" Jiang Hanyan ordered Lu Chen.
Cold beer paired with boiled pig ears was incredibly refreshing.
"I'll go too!"
Lu Cheng stood up and threw his arm around Lu Chen's shoulder as they walked out. Lu Chen brushed him off in disgust, but before long, the guy leaned in again and intimately slung his arm back over. After a few times, Lu Chen got annoyed and just let Lu Cheng do it with a cold face.
An ill-fated relationship!
Lu Chen thought of this term. This guy was indeed a persistent nuisance. They would even be in the same school and class in the future. How annoying!
"Is this house of yours rented or bought?" Lu Cheng asked curiously.
"Hanyan bought it," Lu Chen said truthfully. He had only contributed a few tens of thousands of yuan; the bulk of it was Jiang Hanyan's.
Lu Cheng's eyes widened in disbelief. "Jiang Hanyan bought the house, and you just moved in?"
"Yeah."
Lu Chen's cold voice carried a hint of smugness.
"You've got skills!"
Lu Cheng raised a thumbs-up, his face full of admiration. To be able to eat soft rice as successfully as Lu Chen, he could only offer his utmost respect.
Never mind a beauty like Jiang Hanyan; even if she only had half of her looks and gave him a house to live in, he would pack his bags and move in to be a live-in son-in-law without a second thought.
Lu Chen felt even more smug, but he kept his face expressionless and said deeply, "Hanyan can't do without me."
Lu Cheng blinked, his eyes darting around before leaning in to ask suggestively, "Brother Chen, is your... 'performance' in bed exceptionally good?"
"What performance?"
Lu Chen didn't understand. He was good at many things; which one was this kid referring to?
"You know, in bed!"
Lu Cheng winked, laughing lewdly.
Lu Chen's face warmed slightly, but his icy expression hid his embarrassment. Lu Cheng took his silence as tacit agreement, his face twisting with dramatic jealousy.
After a long while, Lu Cheng finally calmed down and said bitterly, "Heaven is too good to you. Pan, Lu, Deng, Xiao, Xian—you're only missing the Deng."
"What Pan Lu?"
Lu Chen frowned. This kid was speaking in riddles.
"Brother Chen, do you know what a top-tier man is?" Lu Cheng immediately grew excited.
"The richest man."
Lu Chen said briefly.
"The richest man doesn't count. Let me tell you, a top-tier man is defined by 'Pan, Lu, Deng, Xiao, Xian.' Looking at you, I can tell you've never read Jin Ping Mei. 'Pan' is the beauty of Pan An. 'Lu' is the donkey's... you know, the size."
Lu Cheng winked again, looking even more lewd.
This time, Lu Chen understood. He had seen a donkey before, and it was indeed quite exaggerated.
"'Deng' is Deng Tong, an incredibly wealthy man from ancient times. 'Xiao' is attentiveness, and 'Xian' means a man must have leisure time to spend with women. Talented, handsome, physically fit, caring, and with plenty of time to accompany women—that is a top-tier man. Brother Chen, except for being a bit short on money, you're basically there."
Lu Cheng shook his head. He loved researching these things. If the college entrance exam tested this, he would have easily gotten into Tsinghua or Peking University.
Lu Chen's lips twitched. It was the first time he had heard this novel theory, but it actually made sense.
"Money can be made slowly."
Lu Chen was a bit unconvinced. Why should he be inferior to Deng Tong? Once his company grew big and strong, he would definitely become the ultimate top-tier man.
"Right, right, Brother Chen will definitely be richer than Deng Tong!" Lu Cheng flattered.
Now that they were in Hucheng, he was nothing. He had to cling tightly to Brother Chen's thigh. Being flexible was the mark of a true man.
There was a cold cuts shop near the residential area. Lu Chen bought pig ears, chicken feet, spiced tofu, and roasted peanuts. At Lu Cheng's strong insistence, he also bought a pig snout.
"Eat that yourself."
Lu Chen didn't eat pig snouts; he found them dirty.
"Great, pig snout is delicious." Lu Cheng was overjoyed. His favorite food was pig snout.
They bought a case of beer, which Lu Cheng carried, and the two walked back together.
"Brother Chen, let's go find Tang Xuehai tomorrow," Lu Cheng said, gritting his teeth.
"Beat him up? This is Hucheng," Lu Chen reminded him. He didn't get involved in reckless brawls.
Lu Cheng smiled slyly. "We'll do it quietly. Put a sack over his head, completely unnoticed. No one will know. Can you really swallow this anger?"
"Fine."
Lu Chen agreed. He naturally couldn't swallow it either. Giving him a beating to vent some anger was a good idea.
But just a beating was too light.
He leaned in and whispered a few words in Lu Cheng's ear.
"That's brilliant! Brother Chen, you really are the best!"
Lu Cheng was thoroughly impressed. A normal person could never have come up with such a vicious trick. He became even more determined to cling tightly to Lu Chen.
A person like Lu Chen, who was formidable in both open and hidden schemes, was best not to be offended. The best approach was to become his brother.
Jiang Hanyan made braised fish, stir-fried snails, scrambled eggs with century eggs and chili, and green vegetables. Along with the cold cuts Lu Chen bought, they set up a large table. Drinking cold beer and eating cold cuts was incredibly refreshing.
Doudou looked at the adults drinking with envy. He wanted to drink too, but Auntie Jiang said he was too young and could only drink Coke.
"Kid, take a sip!"
Lu Cheng held his glass to Doudou's mouth, explaining, "Don't worry, once you take a sip, you won't want it anymore."
He had been the same when he was a kid, dying to drink when he saw adults doing it. His father let him have a sip of beer, and from then on, he never wanted it again until he grew up and slowly got used to the taste.
Doudou happily took a big gulp. A moment later, his little face wrinkled up. The alcohol in his mouth tasted like medicine; it was horrible.
