Chapter 22
A Cheap Son Falls from the Sky
The next day, Jiang Hanyan and Lu Chen went to school. They had both missed the registration day, but since they had explained their situation to the school beforehand, there was no issue, though they had fallen quite behind on their lessons.
"Hanyan, here are the notes I took. I didn't miss a single word the teachers said; I wrote everything down." Tian Xinxin attentively took out her notebooks. Quite different from her previous lazy and playful self, the handwriting in the notebooks was neat and clean, showing she had truly paid attention in class.
"Thank you." Jiang Hanyan accepted the notebooks, which she indeed desperately needed.
"Why are you thanking me? You're my lifesaver." Tian Xinxin blushed sheepishly. Jiang Hanyan had saved her twice already; she had merely taken some notes.
"I don't work for free; I charged a fee," Jiang Hanyan smiled. Father Tian had been very polite, transferring ten million yuan to her as soon as he returned to the country. For the Tian family, ten million yuan was not a small sum, and they might have had to sell some real estate to gather that much cash.
"Even so, I still have to thank you. After all, you are my closest sister from now on." Tian Xinxin was very serious. She didn't care what Jiang Hanyan thought; she would treat her like a biological sister for the rest of her life.
"Then you're going to be disappointed. Even if you were my biological sister, I would still charge a fee if something happens in the future. I don't work for free." Jiang Hanyan joked seriously. While she liked her, money was money; otherwise, it would strain their sisterly bond.
"I know, even biological siblings should keep clear accounts. My parents said so too." Tian Xinxin nodded repeatedly.
Sheng Baojun didn't know about the events of the winter break, only that Tian Xinxin had met with some accident. But hearing this tone, the accident was clearly not small. She privately asked Tian Xinxin about it, and after learning the whole story, she couldn't help but sigh, "We are truly lucky to share a dorm room with Hanyan."
A master of the mystical arts like Jiang Hanyan was indeed someone who could only be encountered by luck. Her Sheng family also knew some so-called masters, but many were just chasing fame, while few possessed real ability, and those more formidable than Jiang Hanyan were extremely scarce. The few who were capable were often placed on pedestals, incredibly arrogant, and not at all down-to-earth and warm like Jiang Hanyan.
"Exactly! My mother said my greatest blessing was becoming roommates with Hanyan." Tian Xinxin agreed completely.
Sheng Baojun smiled. Tian Xinxin was a silly girl with silly blessings. An expert like Jiang Hanyan preferred those with simple minds, while she disliked those with too many schemes. In the future, when she interacted with Jiang Hanyan, she should also use fewer schemes and show more sincerity.
This semester's coursework was even more intense, with classes from morning till night, keeping Jiang Hanyan extremely busy. However, Li Baisuai suddenly appeared at the school, adding a bit of amusement to her stressful studies.
Li Baisuai entered the school as an auditing student. With his wealth, even obtaining a master's degree would be incredibly easy. He didn't take notes in class, instead clinging to Jiang Hanyan every single day. Except when she went to the restroom or slept, he followed her closely at all times, like an ornament attached to her leg.
Furthermore, this guy had bought an apartment in the same residential complex where Jiang Hanyan lived. It was quite a compromise for him; the largest apartment in this complex wasn't even as big as Li Baisuai's bathroom, yet he lived there very happily. He came to the Jiang family's home every day to freeload meals, playing tirelessly with Doudou and Jin Shanshan, and their bond grew deeper by the day.
Before long, rumors began to spread around the school, saying Li Baisuai was pursuing Jiang Hanyan, and that Jiang Hanyan couldn't resist the temptation of the Li family's wealth and had agreed to date him, and they were even living together. The rumors were so detailed that when Jiang Hanyan heard them, she almost believed she was actually living with Li Baisuai.
"These people are so boring! I'm going to find them!" Tian Xinxin was furious. She knew the relationship between Li Baisuai and Jiang Hanyan better than anyone and didn't want Jiang Hanyan to be slandered.
"There's no need. It'll blow over in a few days," Jiang Hanyan stopped her. Li Baisuai clung to her every day, which indeed easily made people think things. The more they paid attention to it, the more enthusiastically people would gossip. It was best to just ignore it; after all, she didn't care.
But Li Baisuai cared. His little life was still in Master Jiang's hands. Therefore, he racked his brains and came up with a brilliant method to clear up any romantic suspicion between him and Jiang Hanyan.
When classes ended at noon, Jiang Hanyan, Tian Xinxin, and the others walked to the cafeteria to eat. The path was filled with students, looking like a sea of black heads from afar.
"Why can't we move? What's happening up ahead?" Tian Xinxin stood on her tiptoes, but because she was too short, she couldn't see anything.
A crowd blocked the path ahead, packed like sardines. The crowd grew larger and larger, and Jiang Hanyan and her group couldn't move forward. Right after, a commotion broke out, accompanied by startled gasps. From afar, a fluttering banner could seemingly be seen.
"Is someone confessing their love again?" Ji Weiba teased.
Some time ago, a male student had used candles to form a giant heart shape in the plaza, lighting them up at night, which looked quite romantic. Unfortunately, before the female student could even be fully touched, they were chased away by the school security. The reason was that the wind was strong at night, and candles were open flames, which was too dangerous. That romantic male student was even disciplined by the school, but his confession succeeded, and he won the beauty's heart, becoming a legend in the school.
Since then, many male students had followed suit. Some lit candles, some launched offensives with roses, and others held guitars to sing under the female dormitory at midnight. It was incredibly lively and varied.
"Who confesses their love at noon? My stomach is practically sticking to my back," Tian Xinxin grumbled, rubbing her belly. She was more worried that the braised ribs would be completely snatched up. The braised ribs in the cafeteria were delicious, and she always had to get two pieces, but she had to go early; otherwise, only the sauce would be left.
"It doesn't seem like a confession; it's an apprenticeship ceremony," Zhou Yuxin said with a strange expression. She had spotted that idiot.
The crowd parted to make way. A few male students carrying a red carpet unrolled it as they walked, while several female students carried baskets to scatter flowers. Li Baisuai wore a white robe, which only served to highlight his dark skin, making him look like a piece of dry firewood wrapped in white cloth.
Behind him, several male students held up a banner with large, flamboyant characters: "Honored Master above, disciple Li Baisuai pays his respects!"
Jiang Hanyan's lips twitched. This scene reminded her of a movie where Prince Impotent hired four old ladies to scatter flowers and clear the way... But that movie wouldn't be released for another dozen years. This idiot must have watched some martial arts film and copied it.
"Master!" Li Baisuai called out in an emotional tone. From afar, he knelt down and kowtowed, performing the three kneelings and nine kowtows without missing a single one. The loud thuds of his forehead hitting the ground made everyone wince, worrying that his head might get damaged.
"From now on, this disciple is Master's son. If Master tells me to go east, I will absolutely not go west, nor will I go north, let alone south. Whatever Master tells me to do, I will do it without a second word." Li Baisuai sounded as if he were taking an oath.
Jiang Hanyan's lips were about to twitch to the point of soreness. *Incredible. Out of nowhere, a cheap, fully grown son has fallen from the sky.*
"I couldn't possibly give birth to such a big son. Stand up quickly!"
"Yes, since Master tells me to stand up, I will definitely stand up." Li Baisuai scrambled up quickly, incredibly respectful, looking even more filial than a biological son.
The onlookers around were completely dumbfounded. They had thought it was a romantic story of chasing a wife across thousands of miles, but damn it, who would have thought it was a melodramatic case of recognizing a mother across thousands of miles.
