Chapter 3
Grand Profound Art
There must be deterrent laws. In modern times, there is a police force to carry out the task of purging criminals and maintaining order. In this era, there is the Yun Luan Division, a department in charge. "Isn't the Zhong Yang Imperial Dynasty far from Xiang Dong City? That department is in Zhong Zhou, which is not just a few days and nights away from our Bei Fang," Zheng Dong Lin wondered.
Annan Nation has four regions: Nan Fang, Bei Fang, Xi Fang, Dong Fang, and Zhong Zhou. Zhong Zhou has the most special position, located in the very center of Annan Nation. Its abundant spiritual energy is said to be at the eye of the dragon vein, where the Son of Heaven resides. Annually, purple qi rises, emitting a strange glow; ordinary people who breathe it in can live several years longer. The Xishan Royal Dynasty, on the other hand, is located in the northern lands, at the very end of Bei Fang, so it is not close to the Annan Imperial Dynasty.
Normally, in various eras, every king of a dynasty was called the Son of Heaven, but in the current Annan Nation, only one person is called the Son of Heaven, the Son of Heaven of the Annan Imperial Dynasty. The Royal Dynasties are only called Royal Princes. When he first arrived here, Zheng Dong Lin found the world's imperial hierarchy quite strange.
A Royal Prince has the power to rule a region, but cannot extend beyond that limit. However, the Son of Heaven's power encompasses all of Annan Nation. The actual power of the two sides is vastly different, like the distinction between a Prince of the First Rank and an Emperor in ancient times. For example, the Xishan Royal Dynasty's power is only allowed to cover its own territory, while the Annan Imperial Dynasty controls all the territories of the Royal Dynasties within Annan Nation.
"The Yun Luan Division is a colossal organizational machine, like a giant octopus with countless tentacles spread throughout Annan. Therefore, there are branch departments of the Yun Luan Division in Xiang Dong City; there's nothing difficult to understand about that," Ding Bu Ling said.
"So the Yun Luan Division Token in my hand is very precious?" Zheng Dong Lin nodded, carefully examining the golden Yun Luan Division Token.
"That is natural. The Yun Luan Division's actual power is immense, but not everyone has the opportunity to advance within it. In Brother Dong Lin's hand, the Yun Luan Division Token is an opportunity for promotion," Ding Bu Ling nodded.
"No, Dong Lin, this is very precious to me. You should keep it safe; who knows when you might need to use it. I think you'll understand this principle," Ding Bu Ling said, seeing that he didn't hesitate to offer him the Yun Luan Division Token. He shook his head in refusal, returning the token, and sincerely advised him.
"Alright then." Zheng Dong Lin knew that persuasion would be futile. Ding Bu Ling was a person of strong character; once he made a decision, it was not easily changed. So, he would just keep it on him; who knows, as he said, it might be useful one day.
"System, how do I advance my realm?" He thought in his mind. Today, meeting Su Dong Liu, he realized that strength was the true path, and nothing was more practical than a powerful fist. Assuming Su Dong Liu was evil, Zheng Dong Lin's insignificant life would have ended.
-This System has two methods for the Host. One is for the Host to practice random fist techniques and body tempering, luckily opening acupoints, and successfully advancing.
"Switch to method two," Zheng Dong Lin said, feeling extremely distrustful of this System.
-The second method: the Host possesses a martial cultivation method, cultivates according to its path, and advances safely.
"I choose method two, but how do I get a cultivation method? Does the System sell them?" Zheng Dong Lin said. At this moment, he urgently wanted a cultivation method.
-Of course, I do, but I don't sell them – the System's voice said teasingly.
"System, what conditions do you want? As long as it's not too outrageous, I can agree," Zheng Dong Lin said, feeling a headache. Currently, he had no choice but to concede and beg.
-Then why doesn't the Host just go die – the System said lazily.
"80 reputation points, I agree to exchange," Zheng Dong Lin acted as if he didn't hear. He grasped an important point about the System: to get items, one needed reputation points for exchange. Currently, looking at the data, he still had 80 points.
-The Host is clever, but my System does not have a selling function. All items are obtained through gacha. To get a cultivation method, use gacha.
Zheng Dong Lin frowned. One gacha pull cost 50 reputation points, which was very expensive. Not to mention whether he would get a cultivation method in one pull was still unknown. He was annoyed. This System was created in an extremely unethical way. Who would apply such a damned gambling method to his future of saving Annan?
"I'll risk it. Give me one gacha pull," Zheng Dong Lin sighed. To catch a tiger, one must enter its lair. If it doesn't work, I'll have to find a cultivation method in the real world.
-Host, please confirm by crowing "ooh-ooh-ooh."
"Ooh-ooh-ooh!" Zheng Dong Lin gritted his teeth, muttering. This damned System was playing tricks on him again.
-That's not how you crow, Host. You must crow out loud, and make sure it's loud – the System yawned.
"OOH-OOH-OOH!" Zheng Dong Lin looked up at the sky and shouted loudly, as if to vent his extreme rage. Ding Bu Ling flinched, his mouth agape, watching Zheng Dong Lin shout like a madman. He didn't know what to do now, whether to take Brother Dong Lin to a mental asylum for treatment or to abandon him.
-The gacha wheel is about to begin. Host, please pay attention to the spinning process, so if it fails, you'll have a reason to commit suicide.
The red gacha wheel appeared once again. It spun, making everything that was initially clear gradually blur. A golden item fell out of it.
-Congratulations, Host, you've drawn a golden-grade cultivation method – the System's voice cried out enviously.
"Appraise it!" Zheng Dong Lin suppressed his excitement and asked. He hadn't expected to get a cultivation method in one pull, and it was even of the highest quality.
[Grand Profound Art]
Description: From the time when heaven and earth were not yet separated, there was a pervasive energy. This energy was called Xuan Huang, extraordinarily heavy, golden like the earth.
"Hahaha!" Zheng Dong Lin looked up at the sky and laughed loudly, causing the birds in the trees to flutter and scatter. Ding Bu Ling looked at Zheng Dong Lin with horrified eyes. Had his brother gone mad?
"Learn! Learn! Learn!" Zheng Dong Lin chanted three times repeatedly. A golden-earth energy, from some distant corner of heaven and earth, descended upon him. His aura suddenly became heavy, continuously increasing. His hair and eyes were tinged with a golden color, making him look like a Heavenly God descending to the mortal world.
-Ding, Host successfully broke through, Third-Tier Realm.
-Ding, Host successfully broke through, Fourth-Tier Realm.
-Ding, Host successfully broke through, Fifth-Tier Realm.
Three sounds rang out continuously. He easily broke through three realms consecutively. Golden-earth True Qi began to enter his body. Below his Dantian, a small, rice-grain-sized golden orb appeared, floating aimlessly, continuously supplying True Qi along its path.
Concurrently, within his body, 60 luminous spiritual seeds shone, distributed across his acupoints. These were the 60 acupoints achieved upon reaching the Fifth-Tier Realm. The human body has a total of 108 acupoints; opening every 12 acupoints increases one Tier.
Currently, with 60 acupoints, 36 more than before, and condensed True Qi, Zheng Dong Lin felt as if he possessed the strength of a large elephant, eager to unleash it.
"Jian Long Zai Tian!" Zheng Dong Lin moved slightly, unleashing a giant palm. Golden True Qi flowed along his acupoints to assist the attack, and "bang-bang" sounds of breaking air erupted, piercingly loud.
Where the giant palm passed, a large indentation was left in the ground, imprinted with the shape of the palm, as if a giant had smashed it. Zheng Dong Lin nodded in satisfaction. If the Xiang Long Shi Ba Zhang advanced to Great Accomplishment, it would surely be even more powerful. At that time, dragon roars would appear, making opponents soil themselves.
Not to mention, with the palm strike just now, he hadn't even used ten percent of his strength; his Grand Profound Qi was still abundant, only losing about one or two small portions. Ding Bu Ling went from one surprise to another.
"Monster, you, you..." Ding Bu Ling stared wide-eyed at the large pit, swallowing a mouthful of saliva. If that patch of ground were him, broken bones would be the least of it; he feared his human form wouldn't even remain.
"How did you do that?" he asked dryly.
"I was just sitting when I felt a cool breeze, and suddenly I attained enlightenment," Zheng Dong Lin chuckled.
"Can you teach me?" Ding Bu Ling's eyes lit up, his heart restless. After all, a tough image was a small matter; that terrifying destructive power was the big deal.
Zheng Dong Lin wasn't sure if he could teach the Grand Profound Art to Ding Bu Ling. He silently asked the System, detailing the situation.
-Yes, but only a simplified version. If the Host wishes, 1 reputation point per request.
"Agreed!" Zheng Dong Lin readily accepted. Two red secret manuals appeared in his hand, the simplified version of the Grand Profound Art. Its quality had dropped from golden, but it was still sufficient. He gave one manual to Ding Bu Ling and kept the other for Cheng Xiu, who was also a talented individual.
"Grand Profound Art, such a profound name!" Ding Bu Ling looked at the red manual in awe. The content within was abstruse and mysterious, not something one could comprehend instantly. He thought: "The Twelve Tiger Forms" that old uncle taught him must be far inferior. Should he switch his cultivation? He handed the other manual to Cheng Xiu.
"Dong Lin, I will never forget this great kindness!" Ding Bu Ling bowed, speaking sincerely.
"Brothers, it's easy to say, share the blessings. The stronger you are, the easier it will be for me to achieve my grand ambitions," Zheng Dong Lin said.
"Help! Quick, help! The village below is under bandit attack, houses are burning, a huge fire!" At this moment, a person ran across the grassland, shouting in panic.
"What's wrong?" Ding Bu Ling, after his initial joy, frowned and shouted loudly. He quickly grabbed the person.
"Uncle, calm down a bit," Zheng Dong Lin comforted the man, trying to keep him calm.
"Da Ya, Er Ya are dead, they are so pitiful!" The middle-aged man cried out with red eyes, tearing at his hair like a madman, muttering: "I was cowardly and abandoned them. Those evil bandits let me live so I could act as a messenger, like a stray dog, to let others know that they have returned."
"Who has returned?" Zheng Dong Lin pressed.
"I don't know, they were a large group. Led by a one-eyed man. He called himself, Xin Ming Stronghold!" The man muttered.
"I don't know." Ding Bu Ling shook his head, indicating he didn't know. What was Xin Ming Stronghold? He had never heard of it before.
"Let's save people first," Zheng Dong Lin looked at the smoke column, seeing that it was not far, and spoke, quickly rushing over.
Upon arrival, what met their eyes was a group of black-clad figures, fierce and murderous, holding scimitars still stained with blood. Below lay several corpses, old and young. Most striking were two little girls with braided hair, who had embraced each other before death.
The fire was still blazing, and smoke columns continuously rose to the sky. The black-clad figures pointed with their scimitars. Ding Bu Ling clenched his fists, almost drawing blood. He vaguely felt that those two little girls were Da Ya and Er Ya, the daughters of the middle-aged man.
On the other side, in a corner, among the survivors, Zheng Dong Lin recognized a few figures. The two big children, Da Bian and Xiao Bian, and a dark figure with small but hateful eyes, Liang. They were lucky to be alive.
"You seek death!" Ding Bu Ling roared in indignation. A group of people had died; how could they be so heartless? They should know that these were human lives, not mere straw to be plucked at will.
"You two brats, where did you come from, opening your mouths so rudely? I particularly dislike disobedient children. See those two little girls hugging each other in death? They cried loudly, and I told them I don't like to hear crying!" One of the black-clad figures, whose scimitar was still bloody, noticed the two of them, his voice shrill and piercing. As he spoke, he pointed his scimitar at Da Ya and Xiao Ya, lightly licking his lips.
"Ding Bu Ling, run away now!" Liang suddenly saw them, his eyes wide as if they would pop out, shouting loudly. He ran forward, wanting to distract the black-clad figures. A sharp scimitar slashed down from above, aiming to end his life. He thought to himself: "Ding Bu Ling, I've repaid your kindness."
"Clang!" The sound of metal colliding. The scimitar in the black-clad man's hand trembled, his wrist aching, almost dropping his weapon. He glared to see who had blocked him, only to see a young man of about fifteen, with thick eyebrows and bright eyes, bronze skin, using his fist to strike the blade of his saber.
"You kill him, did you ask for my permission?" Ding Bu Ling narrowed his eyes, speaking slowly.
Liang now covered his eyes with his hands. He saw a back, though small, suddenly appear immensely tall, great and encompassing. He moved his lips but couldn't speak, four words faintly appearing in his mind: "Ding Bu Ling, you..."
"It seems you have a bit of ability too." The man with the bloody scimitar, who had been chatting earlier, saw Ding Bu Ling block his comrade's saber, and suddenly sneered.
