Generals Take the Field

Chapter 8

Generals Take the Field

“Do they dare? They are but a group that cannot even fend for themselves.” Ding Feng said disdainfully.
“Nevertheless, we cannot be entirely unprepared.” Su Dong Liu frowned slightly, speaking in a deep voice.
Ding Feng did not seem to agree. Su Dong Liu ignored him; deep down, he always had a premonition that this time, Daoism would take strong action.
“Eat.” Liang brought the rations over and said.
“Delicious.” Cheng Xiu accepted the rations and replied.
“Only now do I notice, your team isn’t supposed to exceed five people, is it? I suddenly recall there were six of you.” Ding Feng suddenly spoke loudly.
None of the surrounding soldiers noticed anything unusual, perhaps because they never imagined a group would dare to exceed the regulated number.
“Haha, it was Zheng Dong Lin. He saw that Li Xin looked frail and no one would accept him into their team, so he took Li Xin in anyway. Who knew this brat would be so strong?” Cheng Xiu laughed heartily, slinging an arm around Li Xin, making him blush.
“Your actions violate military law, but you have all rendered great service, so I shall overlook it.” Ding Feng sighed.
And so, for the first time, a six-person team violated military law but received no punishment; on the contrary, they left a deep impression on others.

.....
The third day at Ye City.
This time, only Cheng Xiu, Su Dong Liu, Li Xin, and Liang entered the battlefield. Zheng Dong Lin and Ding Bu Ling were still deeply asleep in their tents and could not join the battle.
“This time, you have a different mission.” Ding Feng looked at Cheng Xiu, Su Dong Liu, and Li Xin, and spoke.
The three of them nodded. Hearing Ding Feng’s words, their faces grew solemn, knowing that this mission was extremely important and would affect the outcome of the battle.
“Liang, continue to restrain Ao Qiao.” Ding Feng said.
“Understood.” Liang nodded.
With the signal from their commanders, the two armies charged into each other, clashing in a deadly melee. Heads fell, and bodies piled up like never before.
…..
Inside the Da Li main camp, Ren Mo, Song Zuo, and Bai Ze guarded strictly, allowing no mistakes to occur.
“I have prepared the Daoist army. Even if that Wang Bi on the other side has any schemes, he cannot execute them.” The Da Li Military Advisor confidently declared.
“With all three of us guarding here, not even a fly can sneak in.” Ren Mo leaned his hands on the table and spoke.
“Let’s see how far Wang Bi’s strategy can reach, with even Lord Bai Ze guarding.” Song Zuo said disdainfully.
Bai Ze said nothing, clasping his hands behind his back, contemplating all possible scenarios, carefully assessing the situation. However, his heart was filled with confidence in his own strength. With him personally guarding, no one from Xishan would be strong enough to cause trouble, not even Wang Ben. If there was anyone from Xishan strong enough to contend with him, it would have to be Li Huan, but Li Huan would not appear here.
…..
“Kill him!” The Xishan soldiers roared with tiger-swallowing momentum, their long spears piercing through layers of enemy troops. When the Da Li soldiers no longer had giants to support them, they were significantly weaker than on the first two days.
“Kill!” The Da Li soldiers, led by a Heavenly Human General, counterattacked. With one strike, the general decapitated a charging Xishan soldier, turning the tide of battle for the Da Li army.
“Wu Tong, we meet again.” Ding Feng blocked the Da Li Heavenly Human General and spoke.
“Defeated by me for two days, you show no shame.” Wu Tong’s eyes drooped as he replied, his long saber held straight at his hip.
“Today will be different.” Ding Feng smiled, his cavalry mount spinning in a circle, and his long saber swung towards Wu Tong.
“Boastful.” Wu Tong snorted, raising his long saber to counter. This time, he was surprised to find that Ding Feng’s strength had increased significantly.
“You’ve broken through to the Late Stage?” Wu Tong exclaimed in surprise, his long saber cleaving down with a sky-splitting strike.
“Thanks to you these past two days.” Ding Feng’s aura completely erupted, his long saber imbued with translucent True Qi, its power surging up another level, making Wu Tong’s hand tremble as he held his saber.
Wu Tong looked at him grimly, not expecting Ding Feng to have reached this stage. His long saber was simultaneously enveloped by a mass of translucent True Qi, swinging horizontally, forming a deadly blade that flew towards Ding Feng.
Ding Feng used the corner of his eye to glimpse the afterimage of Wu Tong’s strike, its tail brushing past his vision. Ding Feng reacted quickly, raising his long saber to block.
“Whoosh!” An arrow tore through the air from within the Da Li army, flying towards Ding Feng. Suddenly, another sound rang out, as an arrow from Xishan simultaneously aimed at the incoming arrow.
“Clang!” The sound of metal echoed, and a small spark exploded. Liang’s arrow was knocked away by Ao Qiao’s arrow. Ao Qiao’s arrow was enveloped in True Qi, while Liang’s was not, so their strengths were not comparable.
“His realm advantage is still greater than mine.” Liang thought, annoyed.
“Thank you.” Ding Feng knew that Liang had fired the arrow to intercept Ao Qiao’s, giving him more time to act. Ao Qiao’s arrow, due to the collision with Liang’s, had lost more than half of its force. Ding Feng easily blocked it with his long saber.
“That annoying brat again!” Ao Qiao on the other side also thought, annoyed. He had defeated Liang but couldn’t do anything about him, a feeling of indescribable frustration.
“Die!” Wu Tong’s long saber flared with True Qi. Although the True Qi was translucent, it could affect others’ vision, making the air seem distorted in Ding Feng’s eyes. The long saber, drawing up surging True Qi, slashed forward.
“Dream on!” Ding Feng’s True Qi surged, his long saber exploded, swinging a saber arc from bottom to top, shaking Wu Tong’s arm.
Wu Tong gritted his teeth, his long saber, like a storm, cleaved down towards Ding Feng. Ding Feng calmly parried each blow.
Ding Feng knew Wu Tong had lost his composure simply because an opponent he could easily deal with was now fighting him to a standstill, even gaining a slight advantage.
On the battlefield, once a general loses his usual composure, he is pushing himself towards a dead end.
“Foolish!” Ao Qiao’s eyes widened as he looked at Wu Tong, feeling that this person was utterly foolish, already enraged by the enemy general.
Currently, he couldn’t help Wu Tong; Liang on the other side was constantly harassing him. As soon as he made a move, Liang would immediately make a counter-move.
Ao Qiao angrily looked towards Liang, feeling that the brat from Xishan was utterly detestable.
Never before had a member of the Ten Bows like him been so frustrated and constrained, unless he met another of the Ten Bows. Liang was not his equal, but in return, Liang was extremely tenacious and clung to him relentlessly.
“Hmph!” Ao Qiao snorted, his hands creating a series of afterimages, and instantly seven arrows shot towards Liang. *Let’s see how you defend yourself this time, brat.*
Liang’s eyes constricted. *How could the opponent fire seven arrows at once like that?* He quickly moved, decisively abandoning his position and leaping to another side.
The seven arrows, with terrifying force, exploded the wooden platform he had just stood on, turning it into a pile of splinters, a truly horrifying sight.
“So strong!” Liang said, terrified.
“Seven Stars Linked Pearl!” Ao Qiao once again drew his bowstring, and seven more arrows shot towards Liang. He was determined not to let Liang survive this time.
Liang nimbly dodged, sweat pouring down his forehead. He knew he could hardly contend with Ao Qiao’s ultimate move now.
Seven arrows, each with immense power, capable of shattering a boulder. Instantly, they embedded themselves in Liang’s previous position, and fresh blood spurted.
“Die!” Ao Qiao’s eyes flashed with sharp light, knowing his opponent had been fully struck by his Seven Stars Linked Pearl.
The Seven Stars Linked Pearl was his strongest technique, the source of his renown among the Ten Bows. No archer outside the Ten Bows could avoid it.
In the Xishan army, a faint smile appeared at the corner of a mouth. Liang pushed aside the corpses of soldiers from both sides. In the critical moment, he had managed to duck into the most crowded spot on the battlefield. Fortunately, Ao Qiao’s ultimate move mostly killed soldiers, and he only sustained a minor injury.
“Whoosh!” Liang drew his bow, an arrow shot from him with lightning speed, striking unexpectedly. Ao Qiao’s ears twitched, hearing the sound of the bow and arrow. He looked at the incoming arrow in surprise, quickly grabbing one of his own soldiers to block it.
“Thwack!” The arrow pierced the heart of the soldier he used as a shield. Fresh blood splattered onto him. Ao Qiao coldly tossed the corpse aside, his expression extremely serious as he faced Liang. At this moment, he was fighting Liang with all his might, holding nothing back.
“Ah!” At this moment, a Da Li soldier screamed tragically, his face filled with extreme fear. In the middle of the battlefield, three towering figures appeared: Great General Wang Ben, General E Ming, and General Xuan De. A total of three Xishan generals entered the fray simultaneously.
They were like war gods, slaying Da Li soldiers within a three-foot radius. Heads flew everywhere, torsos lay on the ground, their eyes wide in their death throes.
“What?!” Ren Mo slammed the table in shock, leaping to his feet and shouting.
Bai Ze, Song Zuo, and Ren Mo could not have imagined that all three Xishan generals would enter the battle at this moment.
“Could it be that Wang Bi is taking advantage of our defense of the main camp, deploying all three of his generals to reduce our army’s morale?” Song Zuo said in a deep voice.
“No matter what, if we don’t go out to stop them, our army’s morale will rapidly decline.” Bai Ze said heavily.
