Chapter 8
Promise to Leave the Manor
A moment later, Zhao Changge let go of his hand, looking up into her second brother's caring eyes, her heart feeling incredibly warm.
She smiled softly, her voice carrying a hint of playfulness:
"It feels like it's been so long since I last saw Second Brother... I missed you!"
Hearing this, Zhao Changxing tapped Zhao Changge's forehead gently, laughing:
"Didn't we just see each other two days ago?"
Zhao Changge only smiled without answering, pulling Zhao Changxing's hand as she led him into the room.
As soon as they entered, Zhao Changxing's eyes fell on the table, where several sheets of paper she had used to practice calligraphy lay. Surprised, he picked one up, examined it closely, and said:
"Your handwriting has improved so quickly."
Although her current handwriting was much better than before, Zhao Changxing could still recognize it as hers. Because a person's writing habits are hard to change, he never suspected that this wasn't written by his sister.
"It's probably just a matter of accumulation," Zhao Changge replied calmly. Could she tell him directly that this was the handwriting she had only mastered more than ten years later?
"I can tell," Zhao Changxing chuckled.
"Second Brother, can you do me a favor?" Seeing that he was in a good mood, Zhao Changge immediately seized the opportunity.
"What is it?"
Zhao Changge's eyes sparkled: "Can you take me outside?"
Hearing this, Zhao Changxing almost choked on his saliva and hurriedly said:
"The last time I helped you open the restaurant, Father whipped me twenty times! If he finds out I took you out again this time, I might get another beating. I'm not stupid enough to bring trouble upon myself!"
"Brother, you can go out freely every day, while I can only stay at home writing and painting. It's truly too boring," Zhao Changge complained petulantly.
Although she was the most pampered child in the family, she was still a daughter, which meant she couldn't go out at will. It was the same in her past life; she rarely had the chance to leave the manor. After entering the capital, although she went out more often, it was mostly to attend boring flower-viewing banquets, and she rarely got to stroll the streets as she pleased. After marriage, those opportunities became even scarcer.
Now she just wanted to take advantage of her youth to see the outside world. After all, there were still two years before they had to return to the capital, right?
"Don't you still have to learn the qin and embroidery? I've been waiting for your sachet for a long time," Zhao Changxing teased.
At the mention of embroidery, Zhao Changge's face instantly fell, her brow furrowing.
After some thought, she said seriously, "Second Brother, if you take me out, I will personally embroider a sachet for you."
"Really?" Zhao Changxing raised an eyebrow, not quite believing her. Don't think he didn't know; in the past, every time Zhao Changge learned embroidery, her hands would be pricked by needles countless times. Their mother felt so bad that she eventually stopped making her learn.
"High-five to seal the deal!" Zhao Changge held out her hand, indicating a pinky swear.
Zhao Changxing laughed, tapped her hand gently, and said helplessly:
"Alright, I'll take you out tomorrow morning. But remember, you must absolutely not let Mother find out."
He still couldn't bear to see his sister sad.
"Second Brother, you are truly the best!" Zhao Changge nodded happily, beaming at him.
Seeing her smile, Zhao Changxing was dazed for a moment. Once he recovered, he reached out and pinched her cheek, feeling the soft skin beneath his fingertips, and couldn't help but exclaim:
"What have you been doing lately? You're getting prettier and prettier."
His sister was indeed growing up to be beautiful. Even he, who was used to seeing all kinds of people, couldn't help but be stunned.
