Fengya Book Garden and the Black Chess Piece

Thinking of Pei Yan’s ruthless methods toward his enemies, Zhao Changge couldn't help but shiver.

Should she return this item?

But how should she return it?

As Zhao Changge thought, she felt a throbbing headache.

Did she have to make another trip to Fengya Book Garden to return the letter?

Yes, that was what she must do!

She stood up, picked up a brush, and wrote a few lines on a piece of paper. Once the ink was dry, she tucked it into the book, then stuffed the letter into her bodice and left the room.

“Xuan Hua, come with me to Second Brother’s place.” Leaving those words behind, Zhao Changge quickly walked out. Xuan Hua reacted a beat late and hurriedly chased after her.

When Zhao Changge arrived at Zhao Changxing’s courtyard, he was preparing for his afternoon nap.

“Is something the matter?” Zhao Changxing saw the thin layer of sweat on his sister’s forehead and handed her his handkerchief.

“Second Brother, I want to go to Fengya Book Garden.”

Zhao Changxing glanced at the sky and raised an eyebrow: “Now?”

“Yes, now.” Zhao Changge nodded. These things were not safe to keep in her hands for too long.

“Help me paint two fan faces then?” Zhao Changxing’s eyes darted around as he casually made the request.

The weather had been getting hotter lately, and one couldn't go out without a fan, but the ones he had before were not to his liking. Now it was perfect; he had someone right in front of him to solve the problem.

This morning, he had just brought back a pile of paintings and calligraphy. Looking at the landscapes and brushwork within them had put him in an excellent mood.

“… Fine.” Zhao Changge immediately agreed. After all, it was just painting fans; although she hadn't tried it before, since she knew how to paint, it wouldn't be too difficult.

“Then go change your clothes.” Having obtained the desired answer, Zhao Changxing became much more agreeable.

A moment later, the two siblings went out together, heading straight for Fengya Book Garden.

As soon as they entered the book garden, at the villa on the other side, a hidden guard quickly reported to Pei Yan.

In the luxuriously and exquisitely decorated study, Pei Yan placed a black chess piece on the board, his fair fingers lightly tapping the table. After hearing the hidden guard’s report, a strange glint appeared in his eyes. Immediately after, he leisurely set the piece down and said slowly:

“Send someone to check the *Di Li Zhi* and see if it has returned to its original place. If it has, bring it back here.”

This young miss of the Zhao family… seems to be a clever person!

At Fengya Book Garden.

After placing the *Di Li Zhi* back on the bookshelf, Zhao Changge felt a sense of relief. Considering she knew how to be tactful, the other party probably wouldn't pursue the matter further, right?

To avoid drawing attention, she casually picked up a few other books, then selected quite a few storybooks before returning to the counter.

“Second Brother, I am done,” Zhao Changge said to Zhao Changxing.

Zhao Changxing gave a brief response, then waved his hand: “There happen to be fan faces here; come and pick a few.”

Fan faces! Zhao Changge only then remembered the condition her second brother had set before they left. She stepped forward, looked through the various types of fans displayed, and finally chose the ones made of woven silk.

“Since you’re picking anyway, take a few more. You can give them to Eldest Brother or Father, and besides, it will soon be the day to meet the teachers…” Zhao Changxing said casually, while quietly picking up another woven silk fan identical to the one in Zhao Changge’s hand.

Zhao Changge felt her eyelids twitching incessantly and said flatly:

“I am only painting two. If you want to give them to someone, give them yourself.”

She would never easily paint for others without a good reason. Each of her paintings had to be meticulously considered, from composition to line work. Randomly painting something sloppy? That was never within her scope of consideration.

Hearing this, Zhao Changxing gave a light cough and then said with a smile:
