Chapter 4
A Delicious Pot of River Prawns
The Lin family were neighbors of the Bai family, running a small shop specializing in beautiful clothing.
They had an excellent relationship with Bai's parents. When the original owner's parents died in an accident, they were extremely grief-stricken.
A close neighbor is better than a distant relative. They had put a lot of effort into the funeral beforehand.
Uncle Lin and Aunt Lin had watched Bai Yinuo grow up. After going through this incident, they grew even more fond of her, caring for her so much that they almost treated her as their own daughter. The usually quiet boy shook his head and said, "I won't sit, Sis. Mom told me to call you over for dinner."
Bai Yinuo didn't want to reject Aunt Lin's kindness, so she washed her hands: "Alright, I'll be right over."
Following Lin Yu into the Lin family's yard, Lin Yu immediately returned to his room to study.
Aunt Lin was washing vegetables. She looked up, saw Bai Yinuo, and smiled, saying, "Yinuo is here."
"A new stall opened in the market today, selling very fresh river prawns. If I hadn't gone early, I wouldn't have been able to get any. Today, I'll make a prawn feast for you so you can eat to your heart's content."
"Did you cook enough rice today, Auntie?"
"I cooked two cups of rice, definitely enough. Why?"
Bai Yinuo said with a playful frown, "I'm afraid the food will be too delicious later, and there won't be enough rice."
"You silly girl," Aunt Lin laughed, her heart filled with joy.
Uncle Lin, who had been tidying up goods nearby, saw Bai Yinuo arrive, put down his things, and told her to sit.
He asked, "Right, Yinuo, why did you buy tables from me?"
Before opening the boutique, Uncle Lin was a carpenter with decent skills. After changing professions, his hands always itched to make things, and the tables in his own house were made by him.
Compared to simple modern styles, Bai Yinuo preferred this kind of handcrafted raw wood. She found that the tables Uncle Lin made were both sturdy and exquisite. Plus, the tables in her restaurant were extremely old, so she had negotiated with Uncle Lin to buy ten sets of tables from him in the future.
"I plan to open a shop at home," Bai Yinuo said calmly, completely unaware of how shocking this news was to the Lin family.
"What? You want to open that shop?" Uncle Lin and Aunt Lin asked in unison.
"Didn't you study computer science? Aren't you going to look for a job?"
Mentioning computer science made Bai Yinuo a bit embarrassed.
As a refined scholar of ancient times, she was well-versed in the four arts, the Four Books, and the Five Classics.
But things like C++, Python, Java, databases, and data structures were truly too incomprehensible.
Every profession has its own specialty; it was better not to torment herself, Bai Yinuo thought awkwardly.
"Yes, I feel like leaving the shop at home closed is a waste."
"Are you planning to hire a chef?"
"No, I will be the chef."
"Yinuo, you need to think this through. Running an individual business is not easy. You saw how hard your parents worked before," Aunt Lin said.
In her eyes, a college graduate should find an office job, which was both leisurely and respectable.
Moreover, she had never heard of Bai Yinuo having good cooking skills.
Seeing Aunt Lin's hesitant expression, Bai Yinuo walked over, took the vegetables from Aunt Lin's hands, placed them on a chair, and pulled Aunt Lin's arm to the sofa nearby to make her sit down: "Auntie, it's been so long, and I haven't cooked a meal for you yet. Why don't you let me handle the kitchen today? You just sit here and rest, dinner will be ready soon."
Aunt Lin couldn't dissuade her and could only watch as Bai Yinuo took the ingredients and ran into the kitchen.
Seeing Bai Yinuo walking so fast, she hurriedly warned, "Be careful, there's water on the floor, don't slip!"
"Got it, Auntie!"
