Chapter 44
An Unexpected Reunion
We awoke to a morning bathed in sunlight. It had been a long time since all four of us had slept so soundly, or rested in such a proper place.
Today, this humble one would probably not undertake any tasks, but instead spend the entire day wandering with Yui, taking the opportunity to gather more information.
All four of us descended to the lower floor for breakfast. The food here was quite delicious, and there was also a unique yet common food on Earth: rice. It had been a long time since this humble one had eaten rice, so he consumed quite a bit this morning.
After breakfast, we all went out onto the streets. The daily routines of the people continued as usual, though rumors persisted that the Demon King's Demonic Beast army was approaching. People were bustling with trade, and commercial activities were thriving. Many strange products were on display, such as shampoo, soap, and so forth.
While passing through the market, this humble one bought some jewelry for Yui. The jewelry here was truly beautiful, meticulously decorated and carefully crafted, no different from those on Earth.
We visited a few shops to buy some clothes for Yui and for this humble one. Upon entering the shops, without distinction of class or judgment of others, the staff always greeted customers with a friendly smile. Though a commercial smile, even that much made everyone feel comfortable while shopping. Furthermore, the staff were very enthusiastic, guiding customers in detail and offering comprehensive advice. Extremely professional, everyone here was very skilled in business. Perhaps because of this, commercial activities here were very developed.
We bought some beautiful clothes without spending too much time. After leaving, this humble one stored them in his Item Inventory and continued to explore the city.
This humble one enjoyed many strange and delicious foods and visited various stalls. While exploring the city, this humble one inadvertently passed by an extremely spacious area that was not empty land. Looking inside, a very large building, with a modern design, painted entirely white, immediately suggested it was the mansion of a very prominent figure. But what puzzled this humble one was that usually, Lords and Nobles would construct a castle-like building to display their wealth and prestige. This one, however, built a gigantic house with a modern design. Was it to suit the style of this city? There were also quite a few guards, from the outer gate to inside the house.
Yui asked this humble one curiously, "That house is strange, Sechi, isn't it?"
This humble one gently stroked Yui's head and replied, "Yes, that house is built in the architectural style of my world."
Then we continued on. From within that building, a luxurious, spacious carriage, pulled by white horses, emerged. Disregarding it, this humble one continued walking. As we neared the gate, the carriage also arrived. Guards blocked us, preventing us from approaching the carriage. Knowing it was merely for the safety of those inside and the duty of the guards, this still made this humble one uncomfortable.
Yui took this humble one's hand and pointed towards a distant eatery, "Sechi, let us buy some food to take away later."
Suddenly, from within the carriage, the window curtain was pulled open forcefully. Then, a person quickly leaped out of the carriage window, towards this humble one.
A voice loudly shouted this humble one's name as if they had known each other for a long time: "SECHI-KUNNNNNNN!!!"
By reflex, this humble one immediately dodged, and that person slammed his face onto the road.
This humble one said nothing, merely looking down at the person who had just leaped out of the carriage window.
That person scrambled up and reproached this humble one, "Hmph... Is that how you treat an old friend?"
That person introduced himself and bowed in a noble fashion, "Umari Kanato! Greetings, Kariguta Sechi."
This humble one was completely taken aback, stunned. This name was too familiar, too intimate. It was the name of a very close friend from childhood until they were separated. A name that should not have appeared in this world.
This humble one exclaimed in surprise, "K-Kanato????"
"Ummm, Hello!" Kanato replied.
Kanato was a childhood friend of this humble one. The two often got into mischief together and were frequently punished together. He was a handsome boy from childhood to adulthood, and also quite easy to get along with. His family was a wealthy and prestigious clan. His father was the chairman of the board of a large corporation, and his mother was the CEO of that corporation. Thus, his family was extremely distinguished, but his mother later retired to care for the family while still holding a large stake in the company.
This humble one and he were elementary school classmates. This humble one, Isuka, and he often played together. But by middle school, he had to attend a different, very prestigious school. After the accident involving this humble one's parents, he visited this humble one a few times, but this humble one was not very receptive at the time. From then until now, this was the first time this humble one had heard that name again.
Kanato smiled brightly, "Hello, Sechi, long time no see!"
Afterward, we sat right on the road, chatting. It turned out that he was also summoned to be a Hero by a kingdom named Libiru, but he did not possess the talent of a Hero. His stats were not much higher than an ordinary person's, and he had no special skills. Afterward, he was exiled from the capital, living a difficult life with the few coins provided by the Royal Family there. (At least Sechi was better off temporarily). His life was arduous, but he knew how to leverage his intelligence and business acumen from his skills. After a long time, he established a clan with the name Umari, and now he is a person with power no less than Nobles and Imperial Families, perhaps even more. In short, that was his life.
We talked enthusiastically right on the road. Suddenly, a person who looked like a butler reminded him, "Young Master, you have an appointment with a Noble regarding a business deal!" He whispered it to him, but this humble one heard it clearly.
"Ah, I forgot!" He stood up.
Then, he looked at this humble one and then at the butler, and exclaimed, "Oh, forget it! Never mind that Noble; tell him it will be next time." After saying that, he sat back down next to this humble one.
"Ah, I forgot again, Sechi, please come into my house." After that, Kanato led this humble one into the house, leaving the carriage and the butler at the gate.
We entered Kanato's house. As this humble one expected, the house was designed with a modern aesthetic, both inside and out. The furnishings inside the house were also arranged very tastefully, exuding elegance and modernity.
He led us into his private guest room, which was generally a room for private meetings, quite similar to his own room. Here, every room was very large, meticulously cleaned and arranged.
Stepping into the room, Kanato sent everyone out. The butler was probably quite worried about leaving him with strangers, but he also left at his command. This was a large room directly connected to his private room, with a decor quite different from the outside, looking rather simple but creating a more comfortable atmosphere, and it was extremely carefully cleaned.
Kanato invited us to sit, "Sechi, sit down, and please invite her and those two little lizards to sit as well." This, for a Clan Head, was perhaps overly respectful.
Then, a Beastkin girl, who had concealed her ears and tail to appear human, with lustrous pink hair, a rather serious but very beautiful face, about Kanato's height, and a pair of pure brown eyes. If one were to call her a beauty, no one would dare to disagree. She wore a large, magnificent white dress and brought out fruits and food to offer us.
But what puzzled this humble one was, why did she sit beside Kanato after bringing the food, and why did she bring these dishes from Kanato's room? Could she be...
"Ah, I forgot to introduce her to you, this is Anako and she is—"
Anako interrupted Kanato, "Mister Kanato's lover, also serving as his fiancée!"
"Ah, well, that's it..." Kanato scratched his head awkwardly, truly unlike a Clan Head at all.
Kanato pointed at this humble one and introduced him to Anako, "And this is Sechi-kun, my close friend since childhood, so you do not need to be so formal."
Anako almost completely shed her previous seriousness and seemed more relaxed, "Oh! Usually, those who enter this room are people of great authority, so I was a bit formal."
Kanato smiled slyly, then received a smack from Anako, "Ah, Sechi, you should also introduce the person accompanying you."
This humble one said, "Ah, this is Yui, she is—"
Yui interrupted this humble one just as Anako did Kanato, "His lover and fiancée too!"
This humble one merely smiled at Kanato. He suddenly flew towards this humble one and put his arm around this humble one's neck.
Kanato, with his arm around this humble one's neck, chuckled slyly, "Nice! Where did you find such a stunning girl!"
This humble one replied to Kanato with a smile, "You are no slouch either!"
So, the two of us sat and talked for a long time, recounting everything that had happened, though this humble one only said he was an ordinary Adventurer.
Kanato met Anako during his extremely difficult period. Anako helped Kanato a great deal, even leaving her homeland just to assist him. Both of them worked very hard, and Kanato's current success owes much to Anako's efforts. She did not hesitate to trust and help him with all her might, even when he had nothing, like a beggar, a homeless person. She did not hesitate to love someone who had nothing and did everything to help him.
To Kanato, Anako was a lifesaver, an incredibly important person whom he could never repay even with his entire life. This humble one also felt an incredibly strong connection between her and Kanato; both trusted each other implicitly. It was similar to how Yui pulled this humble one out of the darkness of despair, giving this humble one new hope and purpose in life.
