The Card Ink Alchemist

A Nasty Trick

Chapter 19

A Nasty Trick

"Hey, want to play a trick on that guy?" Chen Ling asked softly. His eyes gleamed with a mischievous glint that sent shivers down Tung Lin's spine.

"How?" Tung Lin was immediately interested. To be honest, he didn't like Cao Jian at all, and he was also a love rival. Whatever it took, he had to throw a wrench in his plans at least once to get even.

"Hehe, let's follow him first."

...

It was now one in the morning, and Cao Jian and his subordinates were still not home, instead wandering down a wide street. At this hour, no shops were open, so each of them held a can of beer, walking, drinking, and singing loudly.

"Drinking... hic... not getting drunk... who... hic... would bother drinking... hic..." Cao Jian sang in a high voice. He raised his beer can high, looking very pleased. He staggered, tripping over his own feet, even bumping into the guy next to him, who in turn bumped into the next. His face was flushed red, and his breath reeked of alcohol.

Earlier, being unceremoniously chased away by Li Jin Xuan had greatly annoyed Cao Jian. He hadn't originally intended to go too far, just to tease and warn off that brat Rion. Who knew that old Hidan would get angry and want to teach him a lesson? If he had shown weakness then, he would have lost face, so he had to go all in, drawing swords and bows. Although he wasn't really afraid of fighting Hidan, his two brothers would surely flay him alive if they found out. Fortunately, Li Jin Xuan spoke up then, and he secretly rejoiced, having an excuse to retreat. But he didn't expect her to dismiss him so directly, making him lose even more face.

Leaving the porridge shop with a cold glare, he dragged his gang to a pub until midnight, then they were kicked out onto the street, wandering until now.

After walking a bit more, he leaned against a wall... to relieve himself. His subordinates also followed suit, forming a "neat" line that looked very comical.

In a hidden corner nearby, two dark figures lurked, grinning slyly.

"Hehe, the opportunity has arrived," Chen Ling chuckled mischievously.

"What are we doing?" Tung Lin, still unaware of Chen Ling's plan, asked.

"You'll see," Chen Ling whispered, then activated his Du Yi.

On the other side, the "wall watering" operation had begun. They say there's nothing more satisfying than relieving oneself at the right moment, and indeed, Cao Jian was now looking up at the sky, eyes half-closed, looking very much in bliss. Suddenly...

"Big... big... brother..." one of them, looking down to adjust his "equipment," widened his eyes, stammering.

"What the hell?!" Cao Jian, his "mood" interrupted, asked irritably.

"Bloo... blood..." the guy pointed down, his hand trembling.

"Damn it, haven't you ever seen blood before?!" Cao Jian cursed angrily. In the lives of Card Cultivators like them, while they hadn't killed many, killing a few people was unavoidable, so how could they still be afraid of blood? Nevertheless, he looked down.

He shouldn't have looked; as soon as he did, his face turned ashen, devoid of a single drop of blood. He instantly sobered up, as if all the alcohol had left with his "sorrow."

"No... no way!" Cao Jian stammered in panic, because what he had been relieving himself of was not water, nor did it contain alcohol, but a stream of fresh red blood. "Oh, that's the end of my bachelor life..." he murmured distractedly, so much so that even after the flow stopped, he didn't bother to zip up his pants.

He wasn't that timid, actually, but urinating blood indicated kidney problems. And he would rather have liver cancer than kidney issues, because the kidneys govern reproduction, so...

In the dark corner, the two mischievous figures struggled to suppress their laughter. Then, as people say, a dam breaks when the water pressure is too great, and this wasn't ordinary water but a great flood. Very quickly, the two could no longer hold it in.

Tung Lin fell backward, laughing uncontrollably. Chen Ling clutched his stomach, laughing until tears streamed down his face. At first, they managed to control the volume, but as time went on, their laughter grew louder.

Cao Jian was in no mood to pay attention to his surroundings, but his subordinates heard them. One of them, suspicious, walked closer.

"Shhh!" Chen Ling immediately sobered up. He signaled for silence and retreated deeper into the shadows.

Tung Lin, realizing something was wrong, stifled his laughter and followed Chen Ling. However, he wasn't like Chen Ling, who could stop laughing at will; every now and then, a few muffled chuckles escaped, showing how hard he was struggling to hold back.

The guy walked over, found nothing, and turned back. Only then did Tung Lin ask in a low voice:

"How did you do that?"

"Thanks to this," Chen Ling chuckled, pulling a red Card from his Du Yi. "This is called Bian Xue Card, a Two-Star Card that can make a specific liquid reflect the red light of blood. When I was a Two-Star Card Crafter, I was bullied by someone, so I created this to get revenge. I didn't expect to use it again today."

Although Chen Ling spoke casually as if it were nothing special, Tung Lin was secretly astonished. One must know that due to insufficient theoretical and computational abilities, low-level Card Crafters usually followed established paths, only able to deduce their own structure systems after reaching a certain level. Even so, among high-level Card Crafters, not many could create new structures. Yet Chen Ling, only a Two-Star, was able to craft his own Card. Although its function was a bit peculiar, it showed how powerful his deductive and computational abilities were.

It was like a third-grader, who had just learned to find 'x' using the mantra "to find an unknown term, subtract the known term from the sum," could deduce how to transpose terms and change signs, something an eighth-grader, if not taught, might not think of.

"Enough joking, let's go home and sleep," Chen Ling said.

"Mm," Tung Lin nodded; he was sleepy too.

But before they could leave, they saw Cao Jian and his subordinates rushing past, all of them looking grave and anxious.

"Want to follow and see?" Knowing something had happened, Chen Ling asked.

"Let's go!" Tung Lin thought for a moment, then said decisively. Although he usually avoided trouble, tonight he was going all the way. Besides, he also wanted to know what could make Cao Jian cast aside even the matter of urinating blood.
