Chapter 3
Gifts (4)
Jiang Ru continued rummaging through the bag. The top half was mostly baby clothes. He probably hadn't been picky; there were both large and small clothes, but they were all in bright colors and the fabric wasn't bad, feeling soft to the touch. There were also two short fur coats and a small jacket.
Not bad; he actually remembered that it would be cold when the child was born. This father could be considered thoughtful.
However, he didn't have much aesthetic taste; the styles were extremely outdated, and no matter how the colors were matched, they felt a bit clashing.
Below that seemed to be adult clothes, so Jiang Ru pulled them out to look as well.
She pulled out a bright green wool coat. Unfolding it, she saw three bright red flowers embroidered on the chest, and the shoulders were heavily padded.
It looked like it was meant for a woman.
She had absolutely no desire to wear it. With this color and style, she even wondered if she could wear it outside.
Jiang Ru stood up with a grin, holding it up against herself; it was a bit loose. Then, with an appreciative look, she turned to the man. "Is this for your mother? It's so beautiful, she will definitely like it."
Since she didn't have to wear it anyway, offering a little praise wouldn't hurt.
Who would have thought that upon hearing this, the man would sneer, "Why would I buy it for her? It's yours."
Having said that, he stood up and carried the empty bowl into the kitchen.
Leaving Jiang Ru standing there dazed, staring incredulously at the front and back of the wool coat several times, unable to believe that this was actually bought for her.
This coat was simply too ugly.
Yet, a casual remark floated out from the kitchen: "There's also a pair of high heels at the bottom, those are yours too."
Unable to resist her curiosity, Jiang Ru fished out the high heels.
Sure enough, there was no ugliest, only uglier.
The high heels were dark red with thick, pointed toes. The straps had a hollowed-out pattern, and there was even a white flower bud at the buckle.
"..."
There were still a couple of items in the bag. Intrigued, Jiang Ru pulled them all out: a purple scarf, black leather pants, and a pair of wine-red leather gloves for women.
Honestly, even her mother in her previous life wouldn't have worn these clothes.
After the man finished washing the dishes, he carried a bucket of warm water out. Seeing Jiang Ru wide-eyed, flipping through the clothes, he thought she was dizzy with joy and asked in a good mood, "Do you like them?"
Jiang Ru raised her head with a complicated expression. This was the first time she had ever received a gift from a member of the opposite sex.
When she was in school, there were boys who liked her, but none had dared to confess or give her gifts because they had all been warned off by her brother.
She squeezed out a smile. "How could I not like them? They're really beautiful. With so many nice clothes, I can't bear to wear them. Let's save them for our future daughter-in-law."
The man snorted disdainfully. "So little ambition."
He immediately bypassed her to grab the bath basin, his steps light and his demeanor cheerful.
Jiang Ru swiftly stuffed the clothes back into the zippered bag, stood up, and carried them back to her room.
She wouldn't wear these clothes even if it killed her.
Walking to the front door and seeing the man scooping water into the bath basin in the yard, she couldn't help but ask, "Didn't you say you couldn't make any money? You didn't go and rob someone, did you?"
Buying so many clothes couldn't have been cheap.
Actually, she had many other questions: what on earth had happened to him while he was away this time?
The man carried half a basin of cold water through the door, kicked it shut with his foot, set the basin down, poured in the warm water he had just heated, and immediately began taking off his clothes.
Catching a glimpse of the man's firm back, Jiang Ru quickly turned and went back to her room, saying no more.
She had only taken two steps when the man's voice drifted from behind: "Find a change of clothes for me."
