Chapter 45
Proposing to Call Off the Marriage
Jiang Rang pushed open the door and walked out into the yard. She quickly snatched the wood-chopping knife from Jiang Weimin's hand and said to her brother, "Eldest Brother, I don't want to marry into the Cheng family anymore. I want to call off the marriage now."
Hearing his sister's words, Jiang Weimin couldn't react in time and stood dazed for a moment. Right now, their father was lying in the county hospital, and their mother was there taking care of him. Neither of them knew yet that his sister was being rejected by her in-laws. Jiang Weimin had planned to risk his life against the Cheng family to demand justice for his sister, but now, his sister was saying she didn't want to marry into the Cheng family anymore.
In the countryside, no one cared about whether there was a marriage certificate. As long as a wedding banquet was held, they were considered married. If his sister returned home now, if she wanted to marry someone else in the future, she would be seen as "unclean" in the eyes of the villagers.
"Why? We can't let the Cheng family off so easily."
Jiang Rang's eyes quickly turned red. In her heart, she didn't want to let Cheng Wennian off easily either. Those twenty years had been a nightmare to her. Now that she was fortunate enough to have woken up, she only wanted to stay as far away from Cheng Wennian as possible.
Jiang Rang said, "Eldest Brother, the person Cheng Wennian likes isn't me at all. Over the past three years, he has never touched me." Every year during his holidays, Cheng Wennian would come home. But he always slept on the floor in the bedroom because his heart was always filled only with the image of his white moonlight.
At noon, Jiang Weimin sat in the yard chopping a large bundle of firewood, but it did nothing to cool the rage in his heart. The old Cheng family had told him that his sister had been married to them for three years without bearing a single grandchild for the Chengs, claiming it was his sister's fault. When the Jiang family heard this, they had swallowed their anger, but they never expected the truth was caused by Cheng Wennian. That bastard hadn't even touched his sister.
