The 70s: The Stepmother Doted On by Her Husband's Family

Warm Motherly Love

Chapter 34

Warm Motherly Love

Gu Ying Ming looked at his father’s firm biceps, then down at his own bony, stick-like arms, and immediately felt provoked.
“Eat then, eat! Just you wait, I’ll definitely grow as tall and strong as Dad!”
He hugged his bowl and ate ravenously like a little pig, making smacking sounds as he ate.
And once he started eating, he couldn’t stop. This was the first time he had eaten food cooked by his mother.
He had never thought that his mother’s cooking could be so delicious!
Du Yue Rao sat beside them, watching the children eat with gusto, feeling immensely satisfied. For a cook, seeing others enjoy their food was the greatest reward.
Gu Si’s gaze unconsciously fell upon Du Yue Rao’s gentle profile. Her long hair was tied into a simple braid, draped to one side, swaying softly in the breeze. A strangely soft aura enveloped her.
Gu Si quickly averted his eyes.
He didn’t know how long Du Yue Rao would keep up this act.
Du Yue Rao watched the children eat happily, a faint smile playing on her lips. But when she met his deep gaze, her smile stiffened slightly, and she immediately lowered her head to continue eating.
Everyone in the house ate with gusto, as if in battle, and in the end, all the dishes she cooked were completely cleaned out.
Especially Gu Si, who finished more than half a large pot of porridge in just a few chopsticks, his appetite astonishing.
Du Yue Rao looked at his tall, strong physique, thinking that he must expend a lot of energy working in the afternoon. She silently calculated that she would have to cook more rice in the future.
The three children all ate until their bellies were round and full.
After lunch, Da Ya shyly offered to help clear the dishes, while Gu Si washed everything as usual.
“Aren’t you going to rest a little longer?” Du Yue Rao saw him preparing to go out into the scorching sun and quickly spoke to stop him.
It was the peak of early autumn, and the sun was scorching, intensely bright.
Gu Si shook his head: “We’re rushing to harvest now; the village is short on hands.”
Before leaving, he reminded her: “I’ll be back early this afternoon.”
Du Yue Rao understood that he was afraid she wouldn’t be able to handle the aggressive eldest sister-in-law of the Gu family alone at home, which was why he deliberately instructed her. Her heart involuntarily warmed.
In the past, the original owner caused trouble everywhere, but in reality, she only dared to be bold when Gu Si was backing her, otherwise, she was nothing more than a paper tiger.
But she was not.
Du Yue Rao had once managed a large corporation with thousands of employees. Dealing with a fierce rural sister-in-law was nothing more than child’s play to her.
Having been busy all morning, the two children began to yawn.
Du Yue Rao took the two little bundles of joy into the room for their afternoon nap.
Xiao Han had just recovered from his fever and was tired. Without anyone urging him, he obediently climbed onto the bed and lay still.
Xiao Ming, however, was as stubborn as ever, insisting on going against her wishes. He stood by the bed with his arms crossed, muttering: “I’m not sleeping! You’re a bad person, you’ll sell us away after we fall asleep!”
Du Yue Rao chuckled. The two children must have been scared by someone in the village again.
“Little rascal, if Mother wanted to sell you, she would have done so long ago.”
She gently flicked his forehead.
Xiao Ming clutched his forehead, glaring angrily.
It wasn’t until she threatened that he wouldn’t grow tall if he didn’t sleep that Xiao Ming reluctantly climbed onto the bed, turned his face away, and coldly snorted: “Hmph, sleep then! I still need to grow tall to chase away bad people!”
He loudly declared he wouldn’t sleep, but as soon as his head hit the pillow, he was snoring soundly.
Du Yue Rao looked at the two sleeping children, and the more she looked, the softer her heart became. They were indescribably adorable.
She couldn’t resist bending down and lightly kissing each of their foreheads before turning to leave the room.
Only when the sound of the door closing faded did Gu Ying Han secretly open his eyes, his small hand touching his forehead, where his mother had just kissed him.
He had heard that kind mothers would kiss their children when they loved or praised them.
So it was true.
This body had just been pulled from the river, exhausted from inside out.
Du Yue Rao only rested for a moment before getting up to clean the room.
Previously, the original owner despised everything related to the Gu family, so she had never actively done housework or cared for the children.
In winter, days were short, and all the housework was done by Gu Si. In summer, he had to work constantly, and the house was almost completely neglected.
