Chapter 47
The Secret of the Spirit Spring and Hawthorn Tea
Fortunately, their backyard connected directly to the mountains and the stream. Outsiders looking from the front wouldn't see anything unusual; otherwise, she really wouldn't know how to explain it.
"Dad, why is it like this?"
Even as children, the twins knew that weeds couldn't grow that fast and strong in just two days. There was definitely a problem!
Du Yuerao's hands broke into a cold sweat.
Back in the modern era, she had drunk Spirit Spring water and even bathed in it, but she had never used it to water plants before.
She had thought that for plants, it would be absorbed slowly like in humans. Who knew it would be so effective on greenery!
Since things had come to this, Du Yuerao could only pretend not to know anything, acting surprised at the "chaos" she had caused.
Gu Si stepped forward to inspect everything but found no suspicious signs.
"Maybe it's due to environmental changes affecting the plants, like radiation or sunlight..."
Du Yuerao tried to make up a story.
To verify whether it was the soil or the seeds, Gu Si decided to clear all the weeds behind the house and then sow some vegetable seeds.
The two kids also ran over to join the fun. They had found some pear seeds from somewhere and planted them in a corner of the garden near the foot of the mountain.
Du Yuerao also thought she should plant something, and then she remembered the wild ginseng in her basket.
"This is a wild ginseng root I dug up on the mountain. I want to try planting it."
Gu Si looked at her sparkling eyes and silently helped her dig a hole.
If an outsider saw this scene, they would surely cry out at the "waste of heaven's gifts"—replanting a rare and precious wild ginseng.
They had walked enough to aid digestion. Du Yuerao felt a bit tired, so she led the two children in for an afternoon nap.
As soon as they woke up, Gu Si had already gone to the fields. The two kids opened their eyes and immediately ran to the backyard. Not long after, Gu Yingming's shout was heard.
Du Yuerao dropped what she was doing and ran to see.
Only one afternoon had passed, and the pear seeds they planted had grown into tall saplings.
In the soil, the vegetable seeds Gu Si had sown were also starting to sprout, green and swaying in the wind.
Du Yuerao found the spot where she had planted her wild ginseng. This thing grew very slowly; it was only just starting to sprout from the soil.
Taking advantage of the children not paying attention, she poured a little more Spirit Spring water on it.
If she could make the wild ginseng grow in time before selling it at the black market, nothing would be better.
"Xiao Minh, Xiao Han, you absolutely must not tell anyone about this. Not your playmates, not your aunt or uncle. Do you understand?"
The two children nodded blankly, as if they half-understood.
Du Yuerao used a child's logic to emphasize again: "If you tell others, everyone will want this piece of land. By then, your pear tree won't be able to grow."
Hearing this, the two brothers' eyes widened, and they hugged the sapling tightly, as if fearing it would be stolen at any moment.
Du Yuerao saw their reaction and knew the two had taken her words to heart.
She turned and went into the kitchen.
The weather was sweltering, perfect for a bowl of cold plum water.
Since Gu Si didn't know exactly what ingredients were in the original host's room, she wasn't afraid of being questioned about their origin.
She would just say it was tea bags sent from her parents' home.
Du Yuerao took the ingredients from her Space and put them into the pot in order: smoked plum, hawthorn, hibiscus, licorice, dried tangerine peel, mulberry, osmanthus, and mint.
Before long, a sweet and sour, refreshing aroma filled the space.
Once the water boiled, Du Yuerao added a few ice cubes to cool it down.
The two children were tired from playing. As soon as they smelled the unfamiliar fragrance, they ran over.
Du Yuerao saw the ice had mostly melted and scooped a bowl for each of them.
The taste was cool, with just the right amount of sweet and sour. It made one feel refreshed and comfortable, making all the heat vanish instantly.
The children's eyes lit up. They held the large bowls and gulped it down, looking very much like "experienced drinkers."
*Gulp!*
*Gulp!*
Two large bowls went down.
Sweet, sour, and fragrant with a lingering aftertaste, the two licked their lips longingly.
"Drink slowly, there's plenty more in the pot." Du Yuerao picked up a bowl and sipped it.
After finishing, she poured the rest into a bottle and led the two children to where Gu Si was working in the fields.
In the golden fields, from afar, Du Yuerao saw the figure of a woman approaching her husband.
"Brother Gu Si, I was wrong that day. I shouldn't have said those easily misunderstood things in front of everyone."
