Apocalypse: Stockpiling Millions of Supplies, Building the Strongest Base

They Have Arrived!

Chapter 44

They Have Arrived!

Jiang Chu frowned slightly. Over thirty living people, gone without a trace, dead without a corpse.

The probability of being eaten by zombies was very small; even if they were eaten, some traces would be left behind. The black market leaking this information to the survivors carried a meaning worth pondering.

Her eyes narrowed. Had plants evolved?

Thinking of this, her heart grew heavy.

Ji Chen also heard the survivors talking. Turning around, he saw Jiang Chu lost in thought and asked with concern, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing," Jiang Chu smiled at him. It wasn't certain yet; she would wait until they returned to warn everyone to be on guard.

Ning Ting and the soldiers returned after putting the crystal nuclei into the RV.

The survivors participating in the black market deliberately tried to get close to them. They gathered quite a bit of information and also learned that there was currently a rare spatial ability user in Dongcheng.

Today, Jiang Chu's goal had been achieved. With three thousand crystal nuclei in hand, she left the black market without staying any longer.

Three days later, Xia Jichuan kept his promise. When they went to the black market again, he handed over all the documents regarding Yushui City to them.

These past two days, Jiang Chu led her teammates to the Stone Tower in Dongcheng once every day. Calculating the time, the Honghai Base should also have begun to withdraw. She had discussed with Zhao Jingyao to set aside a row of dormitories in this middle school base for the Honghai Base to rest temporarily.

On the third day after receiving the documents, she led Zhang Hu and the others to the Stone Tower as usual.

This place was an iconic landmark of Dongcheng, which originally had quite a few tourists and zombies. Since the apocalypse began, the ability users in Dongcheng had eliminated some, and with the efforts of Jiang Chu and Ji Chen over the past few days, the number had decreased by more than half, and safety had greatly improved.

Zhang Hu and Gao Qingyang, as usual, found a nearby tall building to keep watch.

Jiang Chu, Ji Chen, and the other teammates cooperated to hunt down the zombies. The number of Jiang Chu's crystal nuclei also slowly rose to 8,300.

It could be considered a decent accumulation.

The crystal nuclei from the zombies hunted by Jiang Chu eventually disappeared. The teammates later gradually guessed that their captain probably had more than one type of ability, and might even possess the legendary spatial ability rumored in the black market.

Jiang Chu never explained, and they only made wild guesses and tacitly kept silent about it.

Jiang Chu stood in the small alley beside the Stone Tower, forcefully pulling her long saber out of the head of a zombie on the ground. Ji Chen also finished his hunt, pulling out a piece of paper to wipe the blood splattered on Jiang Chu's face first. "The last one is dead too."

"Yeah." Jiang Chu raised her head to look at the nearby building, seeing Zhang Hu and the others waving at her excitedly. "Let's go. It might be the people from Yi City."

Chen Qingqing and Xiang Shu came out from another direction and followed along.

When they reached the foot of the building, Gao Qingyang ran down, pointing toward the northwest. "Big Hu and I saw the RV convoy heading this way. It must be Tianyong and the others!"

Now that they had arrived, Jiang Chu was the happiest, as it proved they could set off before long.

"Qingqing, get ready. We're heading over."

Chen Qingqing held her gun and replied. During the zombie hunt a few days ago, she had been minorly injured. When Jiang Chu went to bandage her, she found that the wound had already healed on its own. Only then did she realize she also had an ability!

Furthermore, it was a healing ability.

Although the healing ability wasn't powerful, only serving to assist in treating teammates' injuries, she was still overjoyed. This meant she could also help Jiang Chu. On the way to Yushui City, among hundreds of people, some would inevitably get injured, and she could help heal minor wounds faster than a doctor.

After Zhang Hu came downstairs, Jiang Chu led the way in driving forward. About three kilometers from the Stone Tower, they saw the convoy Zhang Hu had mentioned.

The dense RV convoy caused quite a commotion in Dongcheng. One after another, the zombies in this area gathered here, including two Second-Order fire-system zombies. On a leading open-top car, a man stood using his ability, electrocuting over twenty zombies to death.

Zhang Hu happily stopped the car, and Jiang Chu and the others joined the battle.

Lu Jiaze realized it was them, and his tense face relaxed as he shouted from behind, "It's our people!"

Ji Chen reluctantly froze the zombies in this area for a brief moment. Jiang Chu decisively located the first Second-Order zombie, suddenly dashed behind it, and severed its head with her long saber.

Thanks to Ji Chen's mental freeze, she killed the Second-Order zombie without even using her ability.

However, to deal with the thousands of zombies surrounding the convoy, they still needed to use a wide-area attack.

"I can only hold on for another five seconds. Hurry up," Ji Chen said, his face pale. Controlling the actions of so many zombies was no easy task for him.

Zhang Hu, Gao Qingyang, and the others had already rushed into the zombie horde, firing madly.

Jiang Chu unleashed her wide-area attack. The limit of a Fourth-Order ice-system ability user was being able to control 400 ice spikes simultaneously to attack the zombie horde. Although five or six seconds couldn't wipe out all the zombies, cooperating with Lu Jiaze and the Honghai Base people allowed them to eliminate at least a quarter.

After dealing with a portion of the zombies, Lu Jiaze jumped off the vehicle to help the convoy behind. Some zombies had jumped onto the roofs of the cars, and it took some effort to kill them.

Ji Chen continued to cooperate.

By the time all obstacles were cleared, an hour had passed.

Finally able to breathe a sigh of relief, Lu Jiaze rubbed his temples and walked toward them happily. "I thought we'd have to sacrifice another group of people. Luckily you guys came."

Gao Qingyang kept craning his neck forward, searching for the figures of Liang Tianyong and Shen Yinqiu in the long convoy. "Where are Tianyong and Yinqiu?"

"They're bringing up the rear. They'll be up in a few minutes."

Seeing that they had cleared the zombies ahead, Lu Jiaze took the opportunity to report the current head count: "The Shiyuzhe's suburban stronghold has been completely wiped out. When we left, there were 993 people, but 123 of them didn't want to leave Yi City and didn't say so beforehand. Midway, they split from the convoy and drove off to join the Heihu Base."

Mentioning this, Lu Jiaze's expression turned extremely ugly. The withdrawal had been announced to the entire base early on, and he had made it clear that anyone who didn't want to go could stay at the Honghai Base in the villa district. They would leave behind a portion of the entire base's supplies. The Honghai Base had been reinforced; as long as they didn't lack food, they could survive for some time.

Yet unexpectedly, after setting off, they split from the convoy midway, taking a small portion of the base's vehicles toward the Heihu Base. This sudden turn of events caused four vehicles carrying people who didn't want to go to Heihu to get trapped in the middle and overturn. Zombies immediately swarmed the overturned vehicles, and even though Liang Tianyong and Lu Jiaze rushed to save them in time, they were a step too late.

The convoy made a massive noise, attracting half the zombies in the city. Even though Lu Jiaze had reached the Second Order, he couldn't avoid losing teammates.

"123 people went to the Heihu Base. No one survived from the four overturned vehicles, and 37 died. Heihu knew we wanted to withdraw ahead of schedule, so they played tricks to disrupt us. When we left Yi City, only 694 people remained."
