Chapter 12
A Vague Unease
Thus, while Fang Xiehe and Zhao Wanrou were stunned by Cai Lenghan's sudden yet sincere flirtation, a certain "CEO" was wallowing in deep self-blame and regret. Just a few slip-of-the-tongue words had put him at risk of being lumped together with those obnoxious, terrifying, detestable, and despicable "overbearing CEOs."
Fortunately, Zhao Wanrou was always keeping an eye on her "CEO," so she quickly noticed that the foolish block of ice, who had just learned how to flirt, was about to return to his old cold and gloomy self. This time, it was her turn to lose control of her mind and words. She stepped forward and grabbed Cai Lenghan's limp arm. Then, Zhao Wanrou stood on her tiptoes, bringing her plump, rosy lips close to his ear, and whispered, "Alright, no matter how beautiful I am, it's only for you to look at, okay?"
As she spoke, Zhao Wanrou exhaled a sweet, refreshing breath from her pretty lips onto Cai Lenghan's cheek, making him feel a tickling sensation that sent him into a daze. A certain part of the "CEO" showed a tendency to stir, proving its "overbearingness." Cai Lenghan was so startled he almost jumped. He hurriedly looked at Fang Xiehe with a serious expression, trying to distract himself, and said in a cold voice, "Let's go quickly, don't be late!"
Fang Xiehe felt a bit aggrieved at being given a cold face by his boss. But at this moment, Zhao Wanrou had already wrapped her bulky coat tightly around herself and started walking out the door. Cai Lenghan followed her anxiously, hesitating, "If... you don't want to wear the coat..."
Zhao Wanrou glanced at the flustered block of ice. Her lips curled into a smile: "I don't want to wear a coat, but I want to wear *this* coat."
Cai Lenghan asked blankly, "Why?"
Zhao Wanrou's smile grew even brighter: "Because this is your coat. This coat... has your warmth and scent."
Now it was Cai Lenghan's turn to be dazed. As for Fang Xiehe, he felt like he was choking. He was "suffocating on sweetness." The couple in front of him was throwing flirtatious remarks and stuffing dog food everywhere, making those around them both envious and choked up.
Fang Xiehe aggrievedly got into the car and sat in the driver's seat. Auntie Hai also brought out the box containing the vase that would be used for the auction. Cai Lenghan looked at Zhao Wanrou, only to find her looking back at him. Their eyes met, and Zhao Wanrou smiled again, linking her arm through Cai Lenghan's as they walked together.
The car quickly left the villa and moved onto the main road. On the way, Cai Lenghan felt as if he were floating on clouds. Zhao Wanrou sat beside him, the warmth and fragrance of her body drifting around the tip of his nose. In the honey-like golden twilight, Zhao Wanrou's made-up face became even more exquisite, like a fairy descending to the mortal realm, giving Cai Lenghan the feeling that he was dreaming.
In fact, at this moment, Zhao Wanrou felt no different from Cai Lenghan. Beside her, a certain block of ice kept stealing glances at her the entire time. His gaze was too passionate, too burning, making Zhao Wanrou's face flush hot again. Cai Lenghan's appearance in the sweet twilight added to his handsome looks and softened his sharp edges, making him almost perfectly match the image of the "prince charming" in her heart, even though he wasn't wearing white at the moment.
Just like that, the two sat side by side, silent yet exuding an unexpected harmony. Fang Xiehe had to focus all his concentration and patience of nearly half his life to keep from turning back to look at the affectionate scene behind him and drive safely. Not only that, he even had to breathe more lightly to minimize his presence as much as possible, avoiding disrupting the rare sweet moment of his boss and best friend.
However, no matter how hard Fang Xiehe tried to avoid being a third wheel, he ultimately had to interrupt the affectionate silence of Cai Lenghan and Zhao Wanrou. Because the car had arrived at the banquet venue. Fang Xiehe cleared his throat a few times and announced softly, "Brother Han, we've arrived."
Cai Lenghan looked out the window. In front of their car, several other vehicles were parked. From the cars, guests attending the banquet were stepping down one after another, all dressed luxuriously with noble demeanors. Involuntarily, Cai Lenghan turned to glance at Zhao Wanrou. Even he himself couldn't understand why he looked at her, or what he was looking at her for. Zhao Wanrou didn't understand either, but she sensed a vague unease from her foolish block of ice. Therefore, her lips curled up into a smile once more.
