Chapter 5
The Truth No One Believed
Li You'an sat on the chair, looking at Cheng Li who was leisurely chewing melon seeds while listening to the story, wanting to speak but hesitating.
Lolita sat at Li You'an's feet, her black-and-white eyes darting back and forth between Cheng Li and Li You'an. Finally, as if she disliked Cheng Li, she nudged closer to Li You'an, her entire body almost glued to him.
To be targeted by Lolita... is truly bad luck, Cheng Li thought to himself.
Li You'an felt somewhat awkward. He gently pulled her away a bit, then turned to ask Cheng Li, "Don't you think I'm making this up?"
Cheng Li shook his head: "You aren't lying."
The system had scanned him; there was not a single sign of lying. When humans lie, their heart rate accelerates abnormally, thumping as if a corpse were about to spring from its grave.
Meanwhile, Li You'an was very calm, his heart rate and breathing stable, with only his emotions slightly disarrayed. This proved he was telling the truth, and moreover, a truth he had told many times but which no one believed.
Li You'an cast a grateful look at Cheng Li, then continued to reminisce.
That night, he had indeed almost been scared out of his wits, but he had not gone completely mad; at least he was still conscious and had not fainted. He immediately pulled out his phone to call the police. From childhood to adulthood, Li You'an had always been a good kid, taught to seek the police whenever he faced difficulties.
After a chaotic explanation over the phone, the police and the building manager quickly arrived.
Although they initially suspected him of being involved in child trafficking, the more urgent matter was to clarify where the little girl came from, where she needed to be taken, and how she had managed to enter the house. Was it truly as Li You'an said—that she had appeared out of thin air?
Then, something even more terrifying happened. After the two police officers questioned Li You'an, they turned to comfort the little girl. But the moment they met her gaze, they heard her say softly, "Mister, do you want to take me away from him?"
The officer said, "A good child should be with her parents. Where are your parents?"
The little girl smiled and replied, "Mister, can you look into my eyes?"
Li You'an held his head and said, "After that, they left. Before leaving, they even scolded me, saying I had a mental problem, because there was no little girl here at all."
