The Low-Level Anomaly Rat

Chapter 10

The Low-Level Anomaly Rat

"But it seems there's a problem with the guard room at the gate. Don't tell me that anomalous thing can move on its own, running around randomly?"

Pei Su turned his head to look into the guard room. The gray-haired security guard was slumped over the desk, beside him a radio emitted a piercing static sound, occasionally punctuated by broken electronic noises. Amidst the chaotic interference, Pei Su only vaguely heard a few words: trash thief…

He tried tapping lightly on the glass window. The security guard inside slowly raised his head mechanically, his eyes bloodshot, his entire body shrunken, his demeanor and actions not human-like, but more like a rat that had lived long in the darkness.

He mumbled as if chanting a spell: "Trash… I need trash… I want to rummage through trash…"

Pei Su spoke into his earpiece: "Xiao Zhao, I'll send you a photo. Confirm what kind of anomaly this is."

The photo was quickly sent, and the other side responded just as fast: "Captain Pei, it's a low-level Anomaly Rat."

"That's not right… I clearly sensed an extremely unusual anomalous energy from the camera. I've cross-referenced it with previous anomaly sources, and it definitely came from that mysterious 'Shen Jiang' world. How could it just be a petty rat?"

Pei Su couldn't be bothered to listen to him ramble, directly asking, "In this entire residential area, I've determined that only this place still has anomalous energy lingering."

"If it's Captain Pei's perception, then it must be correct. Maybe the camera is broken; I'll take it for repair tomorrow," Xiao Zhao said through the earpiece.

In the guard room, the security guard had begun emitting chaotic squeaking sounds, his pupils had completely turned blood-red, and sharp fangs had grown in his mouth. He smashed the window glass, lunging straight at Pei Su, intending to bite and tear. But before he could get close to Pei Su's vicinity, he was sent flying by a kick. His body crashed back into the swivel chair, spinning several times before stopping.

"Don't let your foul stench get on me. My beloved would be angry if he found out," Pei Su said indifferently.

As soon as he finished speaking, he drew a long sword from behind his back. The sword plunged straight into the guard room, piercing through the security guard's chest. There was no blood, only a shimmering light. Pei Su lightly flicked the sword's tip, and a gray-furred rat was flicked out. He pulled a glass vial from his pocket, stuffed the rat inside, and then said to Xiao Zhao in his earpiece, "Done. Call logistics to handle the rest."
