Chapter 25
Pei Su Arrives at the Scene
Even if he didn't go to jail, his reputation would be ruined. Who would dare call him to unlock doors after this? If no one hired him, how would he support Pei Su?
Losing his livelihood was akin to being pushed to the brink.
Cheng Li sighed, then climbed out the window.
Being human truly was too difficult, never easy.
And where did that damned vine go?! Cheng Li initially planned to ignore it; after all, he didn't care who died in this residential area.
But then he hesitated between "forget it" and "maybe I should care a little," and ultimately, his love for Pei Su triumphed over his chronic laziness.
Cheng Li dragged his heavy steps, hunched over, his hand tracing the wall, silently following the traces left by the thing.
When Pei Su arrived, the small rented room was empty, nothing left inside. The walls were riddled with cracks, clearly not caused by humans.
Outside the door, a girl sat sobbing, calling out "Liu Li Li" between cries, seemingly the landlord's name.
...
Pei Su had just escaped a battle with an anomaly, rushing to the scene only to face a room filled with an anomalous aura, but the anomaly itself was nowhere to be found.
Lately, for some unknown reason, low-level anomalies had been appearing continuously, and most of them were parasitic, attaching themselves to human bodies.
Within the Bureau of Anomaly Management, there weren't many field agents capable of separating parasitic anomalies from humans, and now everyone was caught up in a series of similar incidents, with no time to spare.
Even Pei Su couldn't remember how many days it had been since he last came home to eat Cheng Li's cooking. If this continued, he wouldn't even have the chance to feel a bit of Cheng Li's warmth.
He pressed his earpiece and said, "Xiao Zhao, arrange for logistics to stabilize the scene. I'm chasing that anomaly."
"Understood, Captain Pei!"
Pei Su was about to leave when he suddenly noticed a brand-new lock on the iron door, next to it a blue toolbox, and hanging from it, a small keychain shaped like a black-haired person.
With just a glance, his pupils contracted. He immediately turned and asked the trembling girl by the door, "Did a locksmith come here?"
The girl was startled for a moment before replying, "Yes... someone did, but I think he's gone now?"
