Chapter 7
Night Illusion
"It doesn't matter! I didn't see anything, alright!" As he spoke, the old man was about to close the window. When the window was almost shut, he breathed a sigh of relief. But the next second, a slender hand pushed the window open from the gap, revealing a smiling face before the old man's eyes. The young man's eyes were as dark as night, moist like rainwater, yet they held the cold dampness characteristic of shadows; a prolonged gaze felt as if one would be drawn in.
The young man's voice was soft yet clear: "You really didn't see anything?"
The old man was drenched in sweat, shaking his head frantically, trying to save his life as he said: "I really didn't see anything..."
The young man chuckled softly, then asked again: "Uncle, don't you think my newly dyed hair looks good?"
The old man swallowed, unable to control himself as he said: "...It's very beautiful."
Immediately after, the young man's dark eyes suddenly flared with a blue light, and a series of strange data characters flowed through them. Inside, the old man screamed: "Don't look! Don't look!" but in the end, he couldn't resist and gazed into them.
And then, guided by those eyes, the old man's gaze became dull, his entire being seemingly falling into an illusion. He rubbed his eyes, slowly mumbling: "What just happened?... Oh right, I need to go to sleep..."
"Sleep, sleep." The old man repeated the command, closed the window, climbed into bed, and fell into a deep slumber.
Cheng Li stopped operating the System, raising a hand to wipe imaginary sweat from his forehead, muttering: "That was terrifying."
Because Cheng Li had operated it at high speed twice, the System temporarily escaped the control of his mental power and could finally speak.
It mocked: [No.1, are you going crazy wanting to be human? Is that even what you call human? Look at what's under your feet; any human stepping on that thing would have been pierced through by now!]
Cheng Li sighed: [Just because your name is Xiao Shen Jing, do you have to be neurotic every single day?]
As he spoke, Cheng Li bent down and pulled up a vine branch from the ground. Looking at the vine covered in dirt, he tilted his head left and right, but couldn't find any part that could be... eaten.
More importantly, Cheng Li could only choose between eating it or throwing it back to the Godfall World. But he had no way to separate the human part that had merged with Jian Guang Teng; either both would be digested in his stomach, or both would be thrown back to that place. Either way was a dead end.
