Chapter 35
Difficult Choice
Cheng Li leaned towards the second option, because he truly didn't want to eat human flesh.
Liu Li Li could die anywhere, just not in his stomach.
The System said: [She's going to die anyway, so what difference does it make where she dies? No.1, haven't you eaten people before?]
Cheng Li tilted his head and replied: [It's not the same. Those people were already dead; if I didn't eat them, I wouldn't survive.]
The System's voice became alluring: [Then it's the same now; there's no difference. Eat her; she was meant to be a corpse anyway.]
Cheng Li: [No.]
His decisive refusal left the System a bit stunned. But it still didn't give up, asking again: [Why? Is it because of that person named Pei Su? He won't know; I can erase his memories... as many times as needed.]
Cheng Li shook his head: [No... because it doesn't taste good.]
The System: [... (speechless)]
Cheng Li thought for a moment, then folded the vine branch into the shape of a small octopus, preparing to take it with him. But just as he picked it up, he heard faint footsteps echoing from the alley entrance. The newcomer had clearly tried to walk very lightly, but Cheng Li still heard it.
He looked down at the "vine octopus" in his hand; at that moment, it concentrated all its strength into a single thorn, stabbing his fingertip.
Cheng Li only felt a tingling sensation in his finger, like an electric current passing through his body. He knew clearly that it was Jian Guang Teng's final, full-force attack. But even so, it was only enough to make him loosen his grip slightly.
Jian Guang Teng shrank by half; it seemed the previous attack had severely depleted it. After falling to the ground, it bounced powerfully, lunging straight towards the newcomer.
But perhaps it never imagined in its entire life that it had just escaped one hell only to rush into another.
The newcomer was a young man who, at a glance, was clearly not to be trifled with. Unlike the blond-haired person behind him, who seemed gentle and harmless, this man's face was sharp and striking, a standard of beauty, cold and dangerous. After its encounter with Cheng Li, Jian Guang Teng no longer judged humans by their appearance; now it believed that the more harmless someone looked, the more terrifying they were.
Therefore, it didn't stop, spreading its thorns, thrashing forward, intending to devour the flesh and blood of the person before it. Just... just a little more absorption, and it would become even stronger...
