Chapter 7
Trouble from the Pre-marital House
Hua Xiaohua sat in the back seat, chattering about what had happened in the residential compound.
"Second Sister, Xu Xiangfeng and her mother were arrested, so isn't that house vacant now? Yesterday, a family of three moved in—it's Madam Sui, along with her grandson and granddaughter. I heard her eldest grandson was transferred from elsewhere to work as a purchasing agent for our Supply and Marketing Cooperative. He's in his twenties and looks very handsome."
At the mention of Madam Sui's handsome grandson, Hua Jinyin seemed to hear Hua Xiaohua swallowing her saliva, and she couldn't help but feel vigilant: This girl hasn't taken a liking to that guy, has she?
Although girls married early these days, she still had to prevent her sister from being deceived. Being a purchasing agent in this era meant traveling all over, which required a slick and clever personality. She didn't know what this Sui guy's character was like.
Unexpectedly, Hua Xiaohua's next words made her laugh and cry: "Yesterday afternoon, Brother Sui gave every household in our compound a package of pork floss. It was so fragrant. Second Sister, do you think that since Brother Sui is living in our compound now, I can ask him to help me buy snacks?"
Alright then, she's still a child, just a glutton.
Though somewhat relieved, she still carefully warned her, "They just moved in, and they don't even know the temperaments of the people in the compound yet. If you abruptly ask him to buy snacks like that, should he refuse you or refuse you? What if he helps you buy them, and you accidentally let it slip, causing him to be reported for speculation and profiteering? Won't he blame you then?"
Hua Xiaohua pouted, clearly a bit unhappy. But since Hua Jinyin had her back turned while riding the bicycle, she couldn't see the girl's protruding lips, which were long enough to hang an oil bottle.
After a while, Hua Xiaohua thought it through and said, "Second Sister is right, but that pork floss is really delicious."
With that, she swallowed hard again, making Hua Jinyin burst into laughter. Look at how much she craves it. Later, when she went on a business trip out of Chu County, she would bring back some snacks for the family. Since it was far away, she could just make up a random excuse, saying the welfare of the Women's Federation was excellent.
When they got home, Hua Xiaohua ran to her room and pulled out a package of pork floss she had hidden in the closet. "Yesterday I only tasted one bite, and saved the rest for everyone to eat together."
After saying that, she didn't forget to proudly raise her chin, as if saying: Hurry up and praise me!
On the way back, Hua Jinyin had thought that since the girl mentioned the pork floss so longingly, she must have eaten it all. She hadn't expected her to resist the temptation. Although this package wasn't large, it was clearly still full, showing that the girl really hadn't eaten much.
Hua Dahua divided half of the pork floss and distributed it evenly among her siblings, wrapping the remaining half back up. "This part is saved for Mom and Dad. No one is allowed to touch it."
Not to mention that no one dared to touch the portion saved for their parents, even the distributed portions were only tasted once by the siblings before being put away.
Hua Jinyin knew they wanted to save it to eat slowly. Looking at the two thin pieces of pork floss, about the size of a finger, in her palm, even though she hadn't put them in her mouth yet, she seemed to taste their delicious flavor.
For dinner, Hua Dahua stewed potatoes with cured meat and cooked a pot of rice mixed with grains. Although she had put in two Liang of cured meat, it still tasted rather plain.
Hua Aidang ate with a miserable face: "I really want to be Second Aunt's child."
Hua Dahua actually nodded in agreement: "I also want to be Second Aunt's child! Why did no one in our family inherit her cooking skills? Or should you try to practice?"
Hua Aidang waved his hands in panic: "Eldest Sister, how old am I? You already want to hand such a heavy burden to me? No way, no way. While you haven't married yet, this training opportunity should still be left to you. Otherwise, when you go to your husband's house, your mother-in-law will complain that your cooking is terrible."
Hua Dahua put a piece of cured meat into her mouth and said nonchalantly, "I only hope she complains. I don't want to be a servant for others my whole life."
Hua Jinyin, who was originally thinking of finding Xu Xixi tonight to practice cooking and occasionally improve their meals, suddenly had an epiphany: That's right. What's the use of cooking well? Wouldn't it be like Second Aunt, who, besides working every day, has to worry about the meals of the whole family? Once others get used to it, they will take it for granted, thinking the kitchen work is naturally hers.
Hmm, cooking skills still need to be learned, but only for myself to eat. I shouldn't show it off.
Today, the three transactions had not been used yet. In the evening, Hua Dahua went to the other room to sleep with Hua Aidang, while Hua Xiaohua slept like a log and couldn't be woken up, so Hua Jinyin entered her space directly.
She told Xu Xixi about what had happened in the past two days, emphasizing the two wicked educated youths and Ma Yuanhong, wondering why she always met such annoying people.
Xu Xixi also shared what had happened on her side. After hearing it, Hua Jinyin couldn't help but want to go back there to vent her anger on behalf of her friend.
Two days ago, Dong Peng probably still thought Xu Xixi was just throwing a tantrum, so he deliberately ignored her for a few days. He thought doing so would make Xu Xixi realize her mistake, and as soon as he gave her a way out, she would rush to take it.
Who would have thought that before he could give her a way out, he received a letter from Xu Xixi's lawyer.
He had never intended to repay the loan of two million yuan. When he wrote the IOU, he only wanted Xu Xixi not to look down on him as a freeloader. Who would have thought it would eventually become evidence forcing him to pay?
This time, Dong Peng panicked. Where was he going to get two million?
Previously, hearing his mother talk a lot about the benefits of buying a house before marriage, he only thought about enjoying the wealth of the Xu family after marriage and dividing their assets, not wanting to share even half of the house with Xu Xixi.
The two million borrowed from Xu Xixi was used by him to buy the house. Since it wasn't enough for the interior decoration, he borrowed another million from the bank. In a third-tier city, such a house could be considered a luxury villa.
Now, the house had just been decorated and hadn't even been lived in, but housing prices had dropped by more than a million. Even if he sold it with the furniture, it wouldn't fetch two million.
He was losing money, and without Xu Xixi's financial support, he couldn't even pay the bank loan. Now they were forcing him to pay back that two million? This was truly driving him to his death!
Driven into a corner, Dong Peng had no mind to work. Every day, he went to Xu Xixi's company to find her, blocking the entrance of her residential area, fabricating stories about Xu Xixi's change of heart, forging IOUs... He almost turned Xu Xixi into a gold-digger who abandoned the poor for the rich, a gold-digger who had swindled all his money.
Under his continuous harassment, the people around assumed Xu Xixi was a gold-digger, which seriously affected her work and life.
Xu Xixi summarized angrily, "Tongyang, why didn't I realize he was such a scumbag before? He even said that as long as I give him the IOU and promise not to demand the debt in the future, and then give him another ten million, he will let me and my family go. Where does he get such thick skin? Does he really think no one can handle him?"
Hearing this, Hua Jinyin frowned. Where did Dong Peng get the confidence to think Xu Xixi wouldn't sue him?
Or rather, what was he relying on?
They had been in a relationship for five years. Although they were busy with their own affairs most of the time, with Dong Peng's petty nature, how could he not have thoroughly investigated the Xu family's situation?
In fact, he had likely investigated the Xu family clearly before pursuing her.
Only that foolish girl thought she was truly having a love free from the material wealth of the secular world.
