Chapter 10
The Feast
In a good mood and with assurances from her superiors, Honeysuckle became much bolder in retrieving items from her space.
Finding a quiet spot, Honeysuckle entered her space, loaded a large, well-bound fat pig and two goats onto her cart, and then grabbed some vegetables grown in the space. After a moment of thought, she also took out several bags of rice.
In the future, she wouldn't need to hide when exchanging these things for money. It was just a pity that her Third Brother was locked up. Aside from delivering goods to the Women's Federation, she didn't know where else she could take them.
Just as she was about to leave the space, the trading slot, which had been quiet for several days, suddenly flashed. She saw that Xu Xixi's space slot, which had been empty, now contained an ancient-looking book, and the items she had placed inside had been taken.
Honeysuckle's heart raced; she finally had news of Xixi. Heaven knew how worried and anxious she had been while keeping busy these past few days. Fortunately, Xixi was fine.
She summoned the trading slot closer. In the next second, the blue-covered ancient book with the words "Taiqing Mysterious Scripture" printed on it fell into her hands.
Just looking at the cover, she knew this was a cultivation manual. With an excited heart and trembling hands, Honeysuckle opened the "Taiqing Mysterious Scripture." Reading through the introduction on the first page, she discovered that this was actually an introductory cultivation manual that did not require any specific spiritual roots.
Although a cultivation manual that did not require specific spiritual roots was likely the most basic kind, to a complete novice who was entirely in the dark, this was already a godsend.
Along with the "Taiqing Mysterious Scripture," a mobile phone was also sent over.
Honeysuckle opened the video on the phone. The first thing she saw was a close-up of Xu Xixi's face. Her skin was as smooth and delicate as a peeled hard-boiled egg, fair and flawless—definitely not the kind of skin that could be achieved at a beauty salon.
The camera pulled back, revealing Xu Xixi's proud smile. "Cong Cong, look at my face. Isn't it smooth? Don't you want to pinch it..."
Listening to Xu Xixi boast proudly for over three minutes, Honeysuckle laughed along, the anxiety in her heart finally melting away.
It was so good to know Xixi was safe. Even if they couldn't meet, the bond in her heart remained.
Next, Xu Xixi recounted what had happened to her over the past few days.
It turned out that it took ten portions of medicinal herbs for the cauldron to refine a single Spirit Creation Pill, which showed just how difficult it was to refine. Only Honeysuckle's space could provide an endless supply of top-grade medicinal herbs; otherwise, even powerful cultivation clans during the peak era of spiritual energy wouldn't dare to waste spiritual herbs like that.
Fortunately, the refined Spirit Creation Pill was of the highest quality. After Xu Xixi consumed one, she successfully formed a top-grade Ice Spiritual Root.
She had also received the only cultivation manual from Tree Elder. Though it was the most basic manual, in a situation with no other options, it was extremely precious.
Originally, she had planned to practice it herself first and then share the manual with Honeysuckle so they could cultivate together. Who would have thought that her spiritual root was so superior and her comprehension so high that she felt absolutely no pressure practicing such a basic manual, falling directly into deep meditation.
By the time she woke up again, more than half a month had passed.
Knowing Honeysuckle would be worried, after leaving a message for her parents—who had called hundreds of times looking for her on the other side—she quickly reported her safety to Honeysuckle.
Honeysuckle put away the "Taiqing Mysterious Scripture," planning to enter the space to cultivate whenever she had free time.
Stepping out of the space once more, she went straight to the government cafeteria.
The head chef had received word to work overtime tonight. He readily agreed.
Chefs like them never worked overtime for nothing; when did they not get to bring some good stuff back? Especially this time, when he heard a whole pig was being delivered. If he casually kept a few pieces of meat, it would be enough to feed his family well for a while.
Seeing that it was almost three in the afternoon, just in time to start preparing dinner, the head chef, after instructing his staff on the ingredients needed for the evening, followed Xia Yu to the front courtyard to look around.
He saw Honeysuckle riding a front-loading tricycle over. On the tricycle was not only a large pig, but also two bound goats, with several baskets of vegetables hanging from the frame. It was truly impressive for a young girl like her to pedal all of that.
"Oh my, how could they let a young girl like you deliver so many things? This leader of yours really doesn't know how to treat people."
After saying this, he gave Xia Yu a meaningful look. Feeling the stare, Xia Yu quickly called people over to help.
The cafeteria staff had also heard that a large pig and vegetables were coming, and they rushed out upon hearing the call. When they saw the large pig weighing several hundred catties and the two sturdy goats on the cart, everyone was thrilled.
Men and women, young and old, gathered together, using every ounce of strength to hoist the large pig onto the slaughtering table.
Before long, the pig and goats were slaughtered. The pig and goat blood were collected in separate buckets. Pig blood could be used to make blood sausages, and goat blood could be made into blood curd. Stir-fried with fragrant garlic, scallions, and chili peppers, it would be an absolute delicacy.
Some people heard the commotion and came to watch. When they saw such a large pig and goats, they ran back to spread the good news to their respective departments.
In no time, the entire office knew there would be meat for dinner tonight, and plenty of it. From time to time, people would glance in this direction.
The head chef looked a bit hesitant. "Ah? This..."
Honeysuckle smiled. "It's fine. Go ahead and cook tonight, Chef. With so much meat, everyone can eat their fill."
When she brought the pig and goats, she had already anticipated this. How many colleagues did they actually have? Naturally, she was counting the entire office staff.
The head chef gave Honeysuckle a thumbs-up. "Generous! Then I'll do my absolute best."
Aside from the pig and goats, there were also the vegetables Honeysuckle had brought. Although dinner was slightly delayed because they were busy processing the meat, the dishes served, while not entirely meat, had clearly visible chunks of meat. The aroma alone made everyone in the office incredibly satisfied. Everyone praised the meat, saying it was too fragrant and they had never tasted anything so delicious.
If they had to compare, only the meat from the last cafeteria meal could barely compete, but it still fell short of the meat delivered today.
Hearing everyone praise the previous meal, Honeysuckle thought of her captured Third Brother, wondering how he was doing now.
She had mentioned it to Sui Yong last time, but with a mission coming up, Sui Yong didn't have time to worry about her Third Brother, only saying he was aware of it.
Now that the mission had been completed for several days, did Sui Yong not remember that there was still a Third Brother waiting for him to rescue?
Since it was a gathering for the comrades, they naturally wouldn't eat with the rest of the office staff.
When a whole roasted lamb skewer was wheeled out, sizzling with fat over the charcoal fire in the large courtyard, Xia Yu swallowed his saliva at the scent, looking at Honeysuckle with a look of deep grievance.
"Erhua, do you not trust my cooking skills? Why didn't I see you bring out such good ingredients before?"
If he had such good ingredients, Xia Yu believed his skills wouldn't be inferior to the head chef's. Why was Comrade Erhua so biased? It made his hands itch to cook.
Having spent so much time together, they had become close, so Honeysuckle ignored his dramatic display. Hearing this, she simply raised her eyebrows and smiled. "You love cooking that much? Then you comrades will have plenty of good food in the future."
