Chapter 4
Why Did You Kiss Me?
Ling Feng saw the wound on Da Jiao's arm, lowering his voice, but still unable to hide his instinctive concern: "Are you hurt? Did the corrupted creature's blood burn you?"
Guides' bodies have poor recovery capabilities, and their resistance to corrupted creatures is also much weaker.
If it were a Sentinel, a burn from being splattered by corrupted creature blood would quickly heal on its own, at most leaving a few unsightly scars without much impact.
But for a Guide, if not treated promptly, there's a high chance of necrosis.
Da Jiao's forearm was burned to the point where flesh and blood were mixed, thick black blood clotted and scabbed, interspersed with fresh blood oozing from the still-open wound.
"I have healing medicine here; it might hurt a little, please bear with it."
Ling Feng frowned worriedly, carefully lifted Da Jiao's hand, took a bottle of medicine from his storage space, and meticulously treated her wound.
The cool ointment, as soon as it was applied, immediately brought a soothing sensation, alleviating the burning pain. The skin around the wound gradually became less swollen and red, as if covered by a transparent protective film, and began to close.
Shen Han Qiu seemed to be deep in thought, looking at Ling Feng, then at Da Jiao: "Are you her Sentinel?"
Ling Feng's hand, applying the medicine, paused. He lowered his head and said nothing, but he also didn't refute it.
Da Jiao silently looked at Ling Feng, unsure what he was thinking: "He hasn't agreed yet."
Her meaning was that she was pursuing this Sentinel, but he hadn't agreed yet.
As a fellow Sentinel, Shen Han Qiu naturally understood the weight of this statement.
Ling Feng couldn't control the strength in his hand, applying the medicine a bit too forcefully, causing the Guide's already delicate wound to start bleeding again.
Ling Feng was flustered: "Sorry, I didn't mean to..."
Da Jiao paid no mind to this slight pain, using her other hand to lift Ling Feng's chin, forcing him to look directly at her, her tone full of hidden meaning: "Are you deliberately trying to get my attention? You've succeeded."
Ling Feng's face flushed crimson; any trace of guilt for accidentally injuring her vanished completely: "You're talking nonsense again!"
Da Jiao smiled: "Playing hard to get? I understand."
Ling Feng: "..."
"Cough, cough."
Shen Han Qiu, standing nearby, couldn't help but cough, interrupting their ambiguous conversation.
Da Jiao retracted her teasing gaze, calmly turning to look at Shen Han Qiu: "Do you need anything else?"
Shen Han Qiu politely suggested: "The nearest shelter zone is Zone Z. I will escort everyone there; would you two like to come along?"
Zone Z?
Da Jiao narrowed her eyes.
So Da Jiao accepted Shen Han Qiu's invitation.
She had to quickly recover her strength; she absolutely couldn't let herself fall into such a pathetic state again today!
Killing an ugly toad took so much effort!
Da Jiao's eyes darkened, turning cold.
Her sleeve was suddenly tugged gently.
Da Jiao came back to her senses, meeting Ling Feng's scrutinizing gaze.
The corners of his eyes were slightly red, his gaze was somewhat evasive, as if he had gathered all his courage to speak: "You... just now, why..."
Da Jiao tilted her head slightly, her expression uncomprehending: "Huh?"
Ling Feng's gaze quickly swept over the Guide's pale pink lips, then he hastily turned his face away, daring not look at her again, his hand still clutching her sleeve tightly, refusing to let go: "Why did you kiss me?"
The hand clutching her sleeve tightened, refusing to let go.
Da Jiao was silent for a moment, momentarily at a loss for how to answer.
At that time, she only wanted to quickly recover her abilities and earn more humiliation points, completely forgetting what a kiss with a mortal signifies.
Having cultivated the Dao of Emotionlessness for so long, matters of love and affection had become increasingly foreign to her.
It seemed she had to be more careful from now on.
Ling Feng's gaze grew increasingly serious and resolute, as if he wouldn't let it go if she didn't give him a clear answer.
Da Jiao used her old trick, asking back: "So what do you think?"
Dense smoke and fire, the stench of blood mixed with the putrid smell of corrupted creatures.
The man's eyes were red as if smoked by fire, emotions surged in his eyes, clearly enraged: "...How would I know!"
Ling Feng was agitated, angrily letting go of Da Jiao's sleeve, clenching his hands into fists: "In short, why exactly did you do that? You have to give me an explanation!"
The Sentinel's emotions were a bit agitated, almost out of control.
The Guide pulled out a small red notebook and slammed it against the Sentinel's chest: "Here's the deal, do you agree to this?"
Ling Feng's heart pounded wildly, aching to the point of breathlessness.
He stared intently at Da Jiao, his ink-black eyes filled with turbulent waves, his voice trembled: "...Are you serious?"
...
Of course not.
Da Jiao released her hand, and the small red notebook fell to the ground.
Dust scattered.
She frowned slightly, avoiding someone else's gaze for the first time: "..."
