Early in the morning, her elder brother woke her up. "Senior Brother, let Junior Sister sleep a little longer." "No, wake up quickly."
No sooner had she finished getting ready than her Senior Brother led her to eat breakfast.
Master saw her and waved, calling her closer. "Come here and eat breakfast quickly. I have something to discuss with you."
After she finished breakfast, Master said, "I know you are about to return to the palace. I want to test if you have the necessary qualities to become a cultivator, so you must perform the following task."
"Yes, Master, please tell me."
The one who should have been worried was her, but as you know, the ones even more worried than her were Senior Brother Lun Peng and Hao Qian. Their eyes were fixed on Master. Master, seeing this, merely gave a wry smile.
"You must go and eliminate a demonic beast on Ba Men Mountain."
That very morning, she set off for Ba Men Mountain. Hao Qian had packed her a pile of food, and Senior Brother Lun Peng secretly gave her a few protective talismans.
She bid farewell to everyone quickly and set off, filled with confidence that she would complete the mission perfectly.
Ba Men Mountain was right next to Zhong Xia Mountain, taking half a day to reach.
Wan Ru wanted to gather some information about this demonic beast, so she stopped at a roadside tea house.
"Shopkeeper, a cup of tea and a plate of pastries for this humble one."
There were a few farmers who had just returned from their fields, stopping at the tea house for a drink.
"Hey, have you heard the news?"
She sat closer, joining their conversation.
"Oh, what's happening here, everyone? May this humble one listen along?"
"Young maiden from another region? It's best you pack your bags and leave."
Her expression became serious as she said, "Please speak, this humble one has come here to eliminate demonic creatures."
The people around the tea house turned to look at her, then crowded around her, saying, "Really? Are you a cultivator, young lady?"
She awkwardly nodded.
Everyone around burst with emotion; an old mother said, "Please save my daughter; she was kidnapped by that demonic beast a week ago."
Another man said, "It captured my wife. Please, young lady, help us find her."
"This humble one will surely help everyone. Now, please tell me everything you know about it."
A person fanning himself, sitting right next to her, said, "We've never encountered it before; we only know one characteristic: it loves the flesh of young maidens."
The person pointed towards the distant forest and said, "It's likely in that distant cave."
"This humble one understands. Please rest assured, this humble one will eliminate that demon and restore peace to this place."
Night quickly fell, pushing the sun away. Wan Ru, in her deep purple robes, exuded an unparalleled elegance.
The sword at her hip seemed to vibrate repeatedly, as if it wanted to strike out immediately.
She held a cloth bag, her hand holding the Bagua Qiankun Mirror, following the direction towards the cave the man had pointed out. Along the way, she conveniently ate an apple given to her by the kind villagers.
The Bagua Qiankun Mirror showed no reaction at all, and she, disheartened, lowered her guard. Wan Ru put away the Bagua Qiankun Mirror.
Walking around the forest, she casually picked a few mushrooms.
Graceful, light, and innocent, like a young maiden from a good family out picking mushrooms.
The bright crescent moon hung in the sky. She rested at the edge of the forest. Her figure flickered in and out of sight.
A pig-headed, human-bodied demonic beast quickly chased after her.
Wan Ru suddenly turned around to see a scholar lying sprawled on the ground near a tree stump.
She approached, bent down, and said, "Hey, esteemed guest. Why are you here?"
The scholar opened his eyes, looking at her dazedly. Then he lunged at her, but as he touched her, the illusion vanished, and the illusory Wan Ru smiled triumphantly.
She, from behind him, threw a talisman at him and said, "Suppressing Talisman!"
From her cloth bundle, she took out strings of sparkling red prayer beads and threw them at the demon.
He was caught off guard, unable to escape the talisman, and was hit by the prayer beads, which burned him. The scholar roared in pain: "You wretched hussy!"
He then revealed his true form as a wild boar, its eyes bloodshot, staring intently at her. It gathered momentum and charged at her, breaking through the talisman's protective layer.
Wan Ru quickly drew her sword. Both charged forward; she lightly stepped onto its head, somersaulted, and leaped over it.
The wild boar crashed into the tree trunk.
Wan Ru seized the opportunity to quickly climb a nearby tree and said, "Demonic creature, if you stop attacking me now, I will spare your life."
The boar panted, regaining its strength, and hearing her ridiculous words, it said, "How laughable. Are all you cultivators so arrogant now?"
The pig demon charged towards the tree again. A clean sword cut passed through the boar's neck.
The pig demon collapsed, and streams of black energy flew into the air. Wan Ru sheathed her sword.
She walked to the boar, looked at it, then closed her eyes, cupped her hands, and bowed.
She opened her eyes to see a handsome man perched on the tree. His hair was pure white, his eyes a captivating emerald green, and his ivory robes made him shine brightly against the starlit night. But what sent shivers down one's spine was that he had nine white tails behind him.
When she saw him, the handsome man showed no shyness and said, "Young lady, that was a good fight."
