Chapter 38
What Do You Mean by That?
"How can Your Lordship be so certain it's an Imperial Grandson and not a daughter? Furthermore, are you sure my sister will miss you?" Jin Xin raised an eyebrow and asked with a smile.
These words made Jiang Tian Cheng panic, his heart uneasy, but he still couldn't understand, "What do you mean by that?"
"Your Lordship knows well how the Madam has treated you all these years. My sister, on the other hand, is devoted to the Madam. A daughter can understand her mother even better; she will only resent you for hurting the Madam. But I am different. After today, the past can be considered erased. As long as Father treats my mother better in the future, with my current favor, pregnancy is only a matter of time. Does Father not wish to benefit from me?"
These words made Jiang Tian Cheng uneasy; he had indeed never thought of this. He had never cared for his daughters, nor did he believe that she would have any prospects in the Prince's Manor. But she had only been in the manor for less than half a month, and Prince Rui had already granted her a position and even reprimanded Consort Cao for her sake. Jiang Yu Shu had been married into the Prince's Manor for so many years, and she had often returned home crying about how Prince Rui had wronged her because of that Consort, yet she had no solution. Jin Xin had only been in the manor for half a month and had already caused such a stir, even being allowed to return home with a dowry. Weren't these gifts all from Prince Rui's heart?
Thinking this, his trust in Jin Xin couldn't help but grow.
"My good daughter, rest assured. After you return to the Prince's Manor, assist your sister. You two sisters must be of one heart. As for your mother, I will take good care of her," he said with a smile.
Hearing this, Jin Xin felt a little more at ease. Although she couldn't avoid being made things difficult for, it was still better than living in the inner compound, not having enough to eat or warm clothes to wear.
She chatted with her mother and younger brother for a while longer, then reluctantly left the Marquis's Manor.
When she had arrived, she sat alone in a carriage. On her return, the servants led her to Jiang Yu Shu's carriage.
Seeing Jin Xin enter the carriage, Jiang Yu Shu looked at her coldly. Qiao Er threw a spiked board onto the carriage floor, the meaning unspoken.
They wanted her to kneel on it.
"Princess Consort, this concubine cannot kneel. If His Highness finds out and asks, this concubine will not know how to explain," Jin Xin said.
Unexpectedly, her reply was met with a slap from Qiao Er.
"Kneel and speak," Jiang Yu Shu raised an eyebrow, her voice not loud, yet filled with coldness.
Jin Xin knelt gingerly, but Qiao Er stepped forward and pressed down on her shoulders, forcing her to kneel on the board. The sharp points of the nails pierced her skin, causing her immense pain, but she could only endure it. Her face turned red, and soon her forehead was covered in cold sweat from the agony.
"As for His Highness, I will send you to answer. Just say you are unwell and cannot serve. You stay kneeling there for me," Jiang Yu Shu said through gritted teeth.
Jin Xin gritted her teeth, enduring the pain in her knees, not saying a word.
"Do you know your mistake?" Jiang Yu Shu asked.
"I am not wrong," she gritted her teeth, replying defiantly, even kneeling with a straight back. Even the clothes on her knees were stained red.
"Still daring to be stubborn, are you? I'll tell you, His Highness has been dispatched by the Emperor to Hui County to inspect water conservancy. He might not return for ten days to half a month. Don't think you can use a tragic ploy on him; I won't give you that chance," Jiang Yu Shu sneered, her eyes full of mockery.
