The Prince Asks: Is My Concubine Engaging in Harem Intrigue?

Summon Jiang Jinxin

Chapter 17

Summon Jiang Jinxin

Once Side Consort Cao's group had vented their spite, they finally let Jinxin go.

Everyone stood at their own doors; not a single person dared to step forward to comfort her.

How could they truly step forward to comfort Jinxin? It was Side Consort Cao who wanted to teach her a lesson. With Side Consort Cao's status, even the Princess Consort dared not offend her, so how would they dare to provoke her?

Besides, Jiang Jinxin indeed did not know her place. She had just entered the estate and already dared to be so arrogant, not only embracing the Prince in broad daylight but also daring to provoke Side Consort Cao. Was she not seeking her own death?

"Mistress, are you alright? Rest assured, the Prince will surely seek justice for you. Do not grieve too much." Seeing her dazed state, Lianrong felt a sudden pang of pity.

Jinxin let out a soft breath, looked toward the crowd watching the spectacle, composed herself, took a deep breath, and said, "I am fine. Lianrong, see if there is anything left. Retrieve some sewing supplies for me."

Lianrong was stunned, not expecting her to be so obsessed with sewing supplies. But knowing Jinxin's difficult position, she quickly rummaged through the remains. Fortunately, not everything was burned; while her clothes were mostly reduced to ashes, her embroidery work remained.

Looking at these items, Jinxin let out a sigh of relief and held them to her chest. "Thank goodness."

Seeing her like this, Lianrong's heart truly ached.

Meanwhile, Xiluan Courtyard received news of Side Consort Cao's rampage at Meixiang Residence, and the people in the courtyard immediately broke into smiles.

"This Gao Wanyuan actually dared to humiliate Jiang Jinxin to such an extent. When the Prince returns, how could he let her off?"

But on second thought, Jiang Yushu felt it might not be so simple. Currently, Gao Wanyuan's elder brother was a fourth-rank General of the Flying Cavalry, and the Gao family held military power. Gao Mingyao was also the Prince's right-hand man. The Prince would not make things difficult for Gao Wanyuan over a mere concubine.

"Summon Jiang Jinxin here," Jiang Yushu said suddenly.

Jinxin was cleaning up the aftermath when she received the summons from Xiluan Courtyard. Lianrong, worried for her, said, "Mistress, if you do not wish to go, you can decline. After such a major incident today, surely the Princess Consort will not continue to make things difficult for you."

Jinxin let out a soft breath, gently patted her cheeks to ensure her smile would not appear too stiff, and said to Lianrong, "Do my makeup."

Lianrong did not know her true circumstances. Her mother and younger brother were both in the Princess Consort's hands; whenever she called, Jinxin could not refuse.

Lianrong sighed, unable to help but feel frustrated by her lack of backbone, though it was mostly out of helplessness.

She herself was weak and powerless, unable to help her. Previously, she had only been a coarse maid sweeping the Prince's courtyard, possessing no status whatsoever. Even if she wanted to help, she had no means.

Jinxin, however, was not so pessimistic. She had to wait for an opportunity.

When Jinxin arrived at Xiluan Courtyard, Jiang Yushu did not look cold at all. Instead, her attitude was unusually warm as she smiled gently and said, "Sister, why are you standing so far away? Come closer."

Jinxin had no choice but to step forward and kneel to pay her respects: "This concubine pays respects to the Princess Consort."

"You are very polite, sensible, and know your place. Previously, I was too harsh on you because I feared you might become arrogant, so I had to remind you at every turn. Now I see clearly that you are indeed a dutiful person."
