Sacrificing Her Eyes

Chapter 10

Sacrificing Her Eyes

On the day of the surgery, everyone was present. In the waiting room where Mai Xiang Wei was about to undergo surgery, everyone was worried about her, inquiring about her and the cornea donor, but the donor did not wish to meet them. They only knew that the person was an unfortunate girl, whose life was as fragile as a thread, wanting to do something useful for the world.
"Thank you very much, for helping my beloved."
Standing behind the curtain, Huang Hai Lang's voice became gentle, full of respect for the girl. He thought he needed to thank her for doing this, for doing something he himself wouldn't dare. But he didn't know that behind that curtain, the girl he was thanking—her eyes were blurred with tears.
"As long as you're happy..."
A long time later, from inside, a pair of thin hands reached out, holding a small piece of paper with neat, beautiful handwriting that made Huang Hai Lang feel a strange emptiness.
"As long as you're happy," was she saying that to him? He truly didn't understand how a girl could say such a thing to him. But that phrase felt somewhat familiar; it seemed someone had said something similar to him before.
"I'm sorry, and thank you."
He said softly, then walked out of the waiting room.
Inside, the girl lay on the bed, her jade-blue eyes swimming with tears. She looked out the window, watching the yellow leaves fall. Perhaps this was the last memory she would ever see.
She sacrificed her life to secure his happiness. Would he be happy this way?
Time once again passed very quickly. The three summer months had arrived, but the scorching summer sun did not slow the pace of the bustling city.
Today was X day, Y month, Z year, and it was also his wedding day. And the person he married was not Mai Hui Ling, but Mai Xiang Wei.
The two of them stood happily together, greeting guests, their smiles bright as if nothing had ever happened. None of them paid attention to her existence, to Mai Hui Ling's existence in this world.
From afar, very close to them. There was a girl wearing a light purple dress, her clear jade-blue eyes looking into the void before her, and she didn't understand why tears, which she thought had dried up, flowed down once again.
"They make a good couple, don't they, brother?"
Her voice trembled slightly, as if deliberately suppressing the sobs in her throat.
"Happy, very happy..."
Wu Dan Feng replied, his hands clutching hers tightly, tears also falling uncontrollably.
"Happiness is good, happiness... happiness is good... I'm so tired, please take me away... I'm so tired..."
She leaned against Wu Dan Feng's chest, letting him guide her, for she was no longer able to walk on her own. Her legs were numb, and before her eyes was an endless, dark void. She wanted to leave this place, wanted to leave Huang Hai Lang. She didn't want to smile and wish him happiness, she didn't want to. She wanted to say "I love you," to say "I love you" a thousand, ten thousand times, but now she could never again.
She was the one who came first, she loved him first, so why was she treated like this? She only wanted him to love her a little, just a little, but he was too stingy to even give her that?
"Huang Hai Lang, goodbye."
Mai Hui Ling said softly, her eyes squeezed shut, allowing tears to flow. She truly had to leave the place where she didn't belong. She truly had to leave him.
Goodbye meant never meeting again.
As for Huang Hai Lang, suddenly his chest felt an unusual pang of pain. His eyes involuntarily looked towards the main door, but there was only an empty space.
But he didn't know that in that place, there had once been a girl who loved him, waiting for him to turn around...
