Chapter 32
The Abnormal Behavior of the Vulture Gurongi
The police department quickly sent officers to seal off the scene, while also cordoning off the sea surface.
The rain continued to fall, showing no signs of letting up, but rather growing heavier.
On the drilling rig, Hozer was putting on diving gear.
With such heavy rain and strong winds, the seawater was murky, and even the shallow areas were affected by the storm. Diving carried significant risks. Therefore, besides a team of professional divers, Hozer also volunteered to dive.
Without hindering his movements, Hozer hung as many oxygen tanks on his body as possible, then plunged into the sea with a splash.
The guide rope sank rapidly. On the shore, several officers operated the winch, stabilizing his descent.
Beneath the surface, Hozer dove headfirst, kicking his legs rapidly. Before long, he reached a depth of thirty meters. The water here was calm, unaffected by the heavy rain above.
This area was only a hundred meters deep at its lowest point. Hozer simply dove straight to the bottom in one breath, leaving the other divers far behind, and began searching the vicinity for the Rose Gurongi's body.
Only after the diving teams had rotated several times did Hozer hold his breath and quickly surface. By then, all the oxygen tanks on his body were completely empty.
Handing the empty tanks up to the rig, Hozer swapped them for fresh ones and dove back down.
The search continued until nightfall, yet yielded no results.
Taking off his diving gear, Hozer thanked an officer who handed him a towel. Wiping his hair, he walked over to Ichijo Kaoru, who was deep in thought with his head lowered.
"I've been meaning to ask, what have you been brooding over? You've been like this since Godai and I arrived."
Ichijo Kaoru looked up at Hozer.
As expected, he couldn't tell this guy. Otherwise, who knew how many times he would be mocked in the future.
"It's nothing. Just wondering if Number B1 is really dead."
"Just that? Looking at the current situation, if her body wasn't swept to deeper waters by the current, she must have taken the opportunity to escape."
"Don't worry too much. Not to mention she was hit by six nerve-paralyzing bullets and severely injured. Even if she was lucky enough to survive, she's not a major threat."
"Since Number B1 appeared, we haven't seen her kill a single person. She seems to hold a very special status within the Gurongi tribe, and she doesn't need to play the game to earn promotion."
Ichijo Kaoru temporarily set aside his worries upon hearing this, turning to another matter.
"Hozer, regarding the Gurongi technician you mentioned earlier... we found his body. We suspect another Gurongi killed him."
"Ichijo, who do you think it is?"
"Daguva..."
After a few seconds of silence, the two uttered the name simultaneously.
"Hozer, why do you think it's Daguva?"
"Intuition. What about you, Ichijo?"
"Didn't Daguva kill dozens of Gurongi? I suspect he might be intentionally purging these weaker Gurongi."
Through examining the bodies of the Gurongi killed by Daguva, the police department discovered that their strength was weaker than the first one—the Spider Gurongi—putting them on par with the mass-produced Gurongi Hozer had previously wiped out.
"Then could Number B1 have intentionally sought you out to die? Otherwise, Daguva would have purged them anyway. If that's true, Number 37's current situation might not be very good."
At first, Ichijo Kaoru felt this was baseless, but on second thought, it seemed to make sense.
But before Ichijo Kaoru could verify this, two days later, the whereabouts of the Vulture Gurongi were discovered by the deployed officers.
Since the Vulture Gurongi could fly and was extremely fast, Ichijo Kaoru decisively ordered the ordinary officers in the vicinity to stay hidden to avoid alerting the target.
Hozer and Godai Yusuke quickly rushed over, while Gouram also transformed into its flight mode, ready to strike at any moment.
"Officer Ichijo, the target has entered the factory."
"Prepare to act."
With the order given, Hozer immediately rushed toward the factory, while Godai Yusuke transformed into his Amazing Mighty Form, took a handgun from Ichijo Kaoru, converted it into a crossbow, and grabbed onto Gouram's metal legs, flying into the sky.
The Vulture Gurongi stood no chance against the current Hozer or Godai Yusuke; the only thing to watch out for was it escaping into the sky.
Thus, the plan was simple: a large force of officers guarded the perimeter, while multiple snipers equipped with nerve-disrupting bullets aimed at the factory areas.
Then Godai Yusuke, controlling Gouram, held his crossbow to tightly lock down the airspace above the factory as a final insurance policy.
Hozer pushed open a crack in the factory's large door, slipped inside, and casually closed it behind him. He looked toward the Vulture Gurongi, who stood motionless with its arms hanging down, making no attempt to hide or flee.
The lighting inside the factory was dim. Hozer narrowed his eyes, sensing that something was amiss.
He had fought the Vulture Gurongi before; it was no match for him back then. Why stay and wait for death now instead of running?
Hozer stopped ten meters away from the Vulture Gurongi, drew the long staff from his back, and transformed it into a spear.
The Vulture Gurongi also immediately transformed into its monster form, removed an ornament from its clothing, and turned it into a pair of crutches.
Though he felt something was wrong, there was no time to overthink. Dozens of cold, sharp spear thrusts shot toward the Vulture Gurongi.
Hozer showed no mercy. The Vulture Gurongi's crutches barely blocked the first wave of attacks before its right shoulder was pierced, blood spurting instantly.
The Vulture Gurongi let out a cry of pain, dropping the right crutch while swinging the left one at Hozer.
Hozer stepped back to retract his spear, then swung it horizontally. The shaft slammed heavily against the Vulture Gurongi's chest, knocking it away.
The Vulture Gurongi took the opportunity to spread its wings and take flight.
Hozer thought the Vulture Gurongi would flee directly, but unexpectedly, it ignored its wounded right shoulder and lunged with its crutch once more.
Since it was seeking death, Hozer naturally showed no mercy. Leaping forward, his spear pierced the Vulture Gurongi's chest mid-air, the tip passing straight through.
With a casual swing of his spear, Hozer threw the Vulture Gurongi to the ground.
The Vulture Gurongi lay sprawled on the ground, its crutches reverting back into ornaments, blood continuously spilling from its mouth.
The spear tip rested against its throat. Hozer asked coldly, "Why didn't you run?"
The Vulture Gurongi struggled to look up at Hozer, then closed its eyes, awaiting death.
"Is it because of Daguva?"
Hearing this, although the Vulture Gurongi didn't open its eyes, its eyelids visibly twitched.
So that was it. Daguva anticipated him obtaining the Ultimate Darkness power so much that he had the Vulture Gurongi deliberately deliver its Geburon to boost his strength again.
It seemed his previous speculation was correct. In the end, only one Gurongi could survive.
But with the Rose Gurongi's fate unknown, she seemed to have escaped the destiny of being purged...
With his doubts resolved, Hozer thrust his spear forward, ending the Vulture Gurongi's life.
Hozer bent down, decisively extracted the Geburon from the Vulture Gurongi's abdomen, and fused it deep into his own body.
"If you want to fight, then let's see who will be the loser."
