Chapter 25
Ichijo Kaoru and Yusuke Godai
The helicopter descended, and the man in the cool-looking coat walked quickly over. Although Hozer had just saved him and was in human form, to be able to directly confront the spider monster and repel it meant he was clearly not an ordinary person.
The man in the coat cautiously approached Hozer, pulling out a pair of silver handcuffs.
Seeing this, Hozer was very cooperative, stretching out both hands.
“Who are you?”
The man in the coat asked this question again. Hozer still didn't understand, but he could roughly guess his meaning.
“My name is Hozer.”
The man in the coat was clearly stunned for a moment.
Chinese? Is he Chinese?
After quickly saying something to the police officer beside him, the man in the coat handcuffed Hozer and searched him.
The search yielded nothing; other than his clothes, Hozer had absolutely no redundant items on his body.
Pressing Hozer's shoulder, the man in the coat led him inside the chaotic police station at the gate.
Until entering the interrogation room, Hozer remained very obedient, not saying a word, and his eyes did not wander, a far cry from his combat state just now.
The man in the coat had Hozer sit down, then poured him a glass of water, placing it in front of him.
Throughout the process, Hozer could sense the caution and vigilance of the man in the coat, who was constantly on guard against him going wild.
Taking sips of water, a police officer holding two headsets quickly walked in.
He nodded to the man in the coat, then stepped forward to place one headset over Hozer's ear.
“This is a real-time translator. Speak into the microphone, and I will be able to understand you.”
The man in the coat also put on the other headset, then spoke.
The translated voice in the headset was a mechanical tone without any change in inflection. Hozer was slightly unaccustomed to hearing it, but communication was possible nonetheless.
“First question, who are you?”
“My name is Hozer, and I am a... human.”
With this abnormal physique, Hozer didn't know if he could still be considered human, but no matter how his physiology changed, in his heart, he always believed he was human.
That power, was it something a human could possess?
The man in the coat clearly did not believe Hozer's words, though he did not show it on his face.
“Are you Chinese?”
Pausing, Hozer nodded.
“Why did you appear here?”
“I don't know.”
“I advise you to speak honestly.”
“I don't know means I don't know. Even if you ask me a hundred more times, my answer will remain the same.”
The man in the coat frowned, decisively skipping this question.
Next, he was asked basic questions such as age and residence, all of which Hozer answered according to his situation in his previous life.
Although the possibility was very small, a sliver of unrealistic expectation seemed to remain in his heart.
A moment later, the man in the coat took off his headset, handed it to a police officer waiting outside, told him to go in and watch Hozer, and left first.
As soon as the man in the coat left, Hozer turned his gaze toward the police officer in the room.
This police officer was clearly far too tense. Seeing Hozer's gaze turn over, he placed his hand on his gun hilt, preparing to draw.
“No need to be tense. Can you tell me what year it is now?”
The police officer stared calmly at Hozer for a few seconds, wondering how someone could not know this, but still answered honestly: “The year 2000.”
Sure enough, it was not his old world. The year he was forced to participate in the trial was 2030, a difference of a full 30 years. Moreover, in the old world in the year 2000, he had never heard of monsters appearing in this country.
This could be considered escaping the control of those people. It was just that this new world didn't seem very safe, but he himself had also obtained extraordinary power.
“Can you get me some food?”
Since it was not his old world, and he had died once, Hozer's state of mind was much more relaxed.
The police officer heard this and opened his intercom, requesting instructions from Officer Ichijo nearby.
The request was approved, and very soon, a portion of pork cutlet bowl was placed in front of Hozer.
The golden-fried pork cutlet was drizzled with a layer of soy sauce, looking extremely appetizing.
Hozer was actually not hungry; he just didn't want to sit idly. Eating was a decent way to pass the time.
In another observation room of the police station, the man in the coat, who was the very person the police officer had just requested instructions from, named Ichijo Kaoru, was frowning as he stared at Hozer on the monitor.
“Officer Ichijo, no trace of this man was detected in the nearby surveillance cameras. As for the surveillance camera at the police station gate, he appeared as if out of thin air.”
Ichijo Kaoru would rather believe that Hozer possessed superb camera-evasion techniques than believe in something that went against scientific laws.
But the surveillance system around the police station was perfect, let alone Hozer appearing at the station gate, where there were no blind spots.
Ichijo Kaoru walked to the monitor. The technician paused at the moment Hozer appeared, then dragged the mouse, moving forward by 0.5 seconds.
And in just that brief moment, Hozer's figure was gone from the screen.
“How is that possible?”
Ichijo Kaoru approached the computer, operating it himself several times, but the result remained unchanged.
Right at this moment, another police officer walked quickly over, reporting: “Officer Ichijo, we have investigated. There is no record of this man in the recent entry logs.”
“Keep searching, search backward. No matter how old the records are, find him for me.”
After issuing the order, Ichijo Kaoru entered the interrogation room.
Hozer was slowly eating his pork cutlet bowl. Seeing Ichijo Kaoru enter, he even smiled and nodded at him.
Ichijo Kaoru stared coldly at Hozer, telling the officer in the room to hand him the headset and step out.
“Hozer, tell me, was everything you said before true?”
“Absolutely true.”
“How did you appear at the police station gate?”
Ichijo Kaoru's question had changed slightly compared to before.
Hozer guessed that they must have reviewed the surveillance footage and discovered the truth of his sudden appearance.
“Unfortunately, I don't know the answer to this question myself.”
Ichijo Kaoru took a deep breath, saying in a deep voice: “Then I can only regretfully tell you that before we clarify your identity, you must remain here.”
“As long as food and lodging are provided, it's fine.”
Ichijo Kaoru stared at the nonchalant Hozer, then turned and left.
Just as he opened the door, Ichijo Kaoru saw the man who had stood in front of Hozer earlier poking his head in to look.
“Yusuke Godai, what are you doing?”
Caught red-handed, Yusuke Godai scratched his head, flashing a somewhat silly and bright smile, saying honestly: “Officer Ichijo, I want to see the man inside.”
With that, he bypassed Ichijo Kaoru, waving at Hozer sitting in the interrogation room.
“Hello, I'm Yusuke Godai, an adventurer. What's your name?”
“Yusuke Godai, this is not a place for you to cause trouble. Get out.”
Hozer watched Yusuke Godai being pushed out by Ichijo Kaoru, smiled, and said clearly in the Japanese he had just learned: “My name is Hozer, and I am also an adventurer.”
“Really, Mr. Hozer? So you're also an adventurer! Then we can...”
Before Yusuke Godai could finish his sentence, Ichijo Kaoru slammed the door shut, cutting off their gaze.
Yusuke Godai... was an interesting person.
