Chapter 32
Dark Night Incident
"What happened?" Stilo asked in a hoarse voice, looking as though he was still suffering from a fever. His spirit was very sluggish, and the fever reducers Soui Matsukazu had brought were completely ineffective.
Furuya Rei raised his head, seemingly wanting to see what the situation was outside.
Then he quickly shrank back.
Following his movement, a bullet struck the floor.
The blonde youth leaned against the wall, seemingly completely unconcerned about having just walked on the edge of death. He even had the leisure to turn his head and look at Stilo, his blue-gray eyes blinking at the situation.
The middle-aged man, whose face was pale, clutched his chest and panted heavily.
One reason was that his health was indeed poor, and the other was that Bourbon's reckless behavior had almost given him a heart attack.
Furuya Rei didn't know yet that because of his behavior of sticking close to Bourbon, he had almost angered a host Boss to death. If he had realized this, he would definitely have felt it was a cause for celebration.
"Bourbon," Stilo called out, drawing out his voice.
"We seem to be targeted by someone," Furuya Rei said expressionlessly in a flat tone before Stilo could finish. He reached out to press Stilo down, curling himself up as well.
Another crisp sound rang out, this time even lower. Stilo raised his head and saw a fresh, smoking bullet hole near their feet.
Furuya Rei took his phone out of his pocket, opened it, and directly dialed a string of numbers—it was Gin's contact information.
The phone only rang for a second before it was picked up.
"Room 1018, sniper outside, fired four shots." Before Gin could speak, Furuya Rei stated his purpose directly.
Gin's voice was accompanied by the sound of howling cold wind—he should be in a very high place. Furuya Rei considered the surrounding environment and quickly determined Gin's location.
"Investigating," Gin said, looking down at the buildings below. His position allowed him to see almost all the surrounding structures, but he could only observe their rooftops.
Some people were walking in the dark alleyways below, looking around to ensure no one was there before pulling open the side doors of the buildings—either by "picking the lock" or using force. In short, these people went inside.
These were the outer members of the organization, the majority.
Perhaps there were one or two code-named members, but that didn't matter to Gin.
These people were helping Gin clear out any suspicious characters inside each building.
The call wasn't disconnected. Furuya Rei and Stilo remained quietly hidden between the bedding and the window. Logically speaking, they should have quickly left this room, as a dangerous, unknown sniper was staring at them.
But considering the FBI was also there.
Perhaps they were waiting at the door for them to walk into the trap?
Gin and Stilo both thought so, because with Bourbon there, they could temporarily take a slight risk.
And judging from Bourbon's lack of movement, he was also very confident in his ability to protect Stilo.
However, although the result was the same—Stilo and Bourbon staying in the room under the sniper's watch without moving—Furuya Rei's thoughts were completely different from theirs.
The other end of the phone still only had the sound of the wind.
The sniper targeting Furuya Rei and Stilo didn't fire again.
Gin's face, wrapped in his hat and coat, gradually darkened.
Nothing, nothing, nothing...
Reports came back one after another, but no suspicious characters were found anywhere.
Could they have run?
Just as Gin was doubting this, as if to remind him, another bullet from the dark phantom struck the bedding in the room.
Clearly, this wasn't to aim at the two in the room, but to provoke them.
That building—the one where everyone around noticed the gunshot—the outer members rushed up like crazy. Some guarded the doors below, while others went up to investigate.
But nothing was found.
Gin felt he had heard the word "nothing" too many times tonight.
"Gin..." Standing on the rooftop, Glenfiddich, one of the few code-named members, called Gin through the communicator, his voice trembling with caution and alertness as he scanned the empty surroundings.
A feeling of having seen a ghost filled his heart.
He was sure this place was the sniping point, but why was there no one here?
The organization's people had surrounded this place in an instant.
No one could have run out.
Gin gripped the communicator so tightly his knuckles turned white.
He felt what happened tonight was extremely absurd, and also extremely familiar. That incident had been on his mind all this time, but it had never been resolved.
Like a ghost lingering around them.
"Gin, what on earth is going on?" Furuya Rei held his phone, questioning Gin who remained silent, his voice turning sharp. "Ah, the gentleman in charge of operations, do you really care about the gentleman's safety? This person is definitely not from the FBI."
Bourbon's cold words didn't spark anger in Gin's heart; instead, they made him calmer. Well, he wasn't someone who would get irritated by these things anyway.
It was just that sometimes Bourbon's mouth was really annoying.
But thinking carefully, Bourbon was right. The person hidden in the dark couldn't possibly be from the FBI. They had an informant inside the FBI who would never be exposed, right?
At this moment, that person was still hidden in the FBI team, sending them intelligence.
So, was it a third unknown force?
Gin recalled that almost laughable surveillance video. If he hadn't experienced it himself, and if others hadn't brought that bizarre video to him, he would have thought the video had been tampered with.
Tonight's situation was so similar to that day.
No one could be seen, like a ghost.
There was a burst of panic outside. Furuya Rei tilted his head to look at Stilo beside him. The fever made Stilo's mind groggy, not as sharp as usual.
Of course, this was his requirement.
But even now, he hadn't shifted his consciousness back to Karasuma Renya, which proved how important this body was to him, right?
He couldn't bear to lose this thing.
Furuya Rei leaned against the wall, waiting for news, waiting for the next step to continue his action.
He didn't know if the FBI, especially that guy Akai Shuichi, had started to act.
Hopefully, a certain green-eyed man could have some brains. At this time, the FBI was clearly not suitable to be used. Hopefully, he could be smart enough not to bring others over.
Suddenly, a piercing scream seemed to ring out, drifting into Furuya Rei's ears through the window shattered by the sniper rifle.
Immediately after—
"Oanh!"
A certain floor of the building exploded into flames.
The crowd below let out bursts of screams.
As the crowd surged forward, a man wearing sunglasses turned his head to look at the building behind, leaning close to the tall man holding his arm, lowering his voice: "I dare say, this is the craziest thing I've ever done."
"Me too," the man behind whispered, lowering his head.
Well, the two bomb disposal police officers had not only failed to dismantle a potentially dangerous bomb, but had instead used illegal materials provided by a certain colleague to make quite a few bombs for the other party.
Just now, one had exploded in that building.
And the high-tech system in their blonde colleague's space still stored the unused bombs.
Perhaps in the next plan, they would be used to destroy an important base of the organization, and then the organization's people would take the bomb residue to investigate.
Thanks to training program 123, which they had participated in back at the police academy, Matsuda Jinpei had acquired a bomb-making method that absolutely did not exist in their world.
Even if the organization investigated, they wouldn't find anything.
Ha, a mysterious third organization. Even though it would occasionally cause mutual damage with Furuya Rei, Matsuda Jinpei couldn't help but marvel that this was a genius idea.
"Actually, I feel we can still bring that one—" Hagiwara Kenji drew out his voice, his purple eyes blinking at Matsuda Jinpei, "back ourselves."
"Japan will become chaotic enough after this," Matsuda Jinpei said, pulling Hagiwara Kenji out of the panicked crowd at the right moment. "Besides, Furuya-chan will definitely have a backup plan."
The crowd had stopped at this place, many turning around to look at the building emitting black smoke behind.
It had to be said that watching the excitement was human nature.
Matsuda Jinpei turned to look at this scene and couldn't help but click his tongue. "Crazy. I mean, when that blonde master wanted me to do this, I almost wanted to shove my police badge in his face."
"But didn't you also accept it very excitedly afterward, Jinpei-chan?" Hagiwara Kenji looked at his face, finding it a bit funny. If the other party hadn't held the materials Furuya-chan brought, his eyes shining as he drew blueprints after beating Furuya-chan up—he would have believed Jinpei-chan's words.
Absolutely believed them.
No doubt about it.
Matsuda Jinpei slid his sunglasses down slightly, looking at Hagiwara Kenji from above. He felt Hagi was thinking of something impolite about him, but he had no proof.
So he could only look away, looking at the building emitting black smoke with some concern.
He wondered if the plan would go smoothly.
"Where is the other person?" Looking left and right, Matsuda Jinpei asked a question from his soul. Didn't they agree to meet here after the explosion?
He lowered his voice, looking a bit secretive: "Hiro-danna, are you still alive?"
"Perhaps you can say, where are you? Matsuda." Although there was clearly no one in front of them, a voice came from the somewhat dirty wall beside them.
Hagiwara Kenji walked over and reached out to touch.
Soft clothing fabric, followed by metal that still carried some warmth.
"You should have made a sound first, we can't see you," Matsuda Jinpei muttered, sounding a bit complaining.
Receiving no response, Hagiwara Kenji's hand sank as the metal object fell into his hand.
Holding it, as if catching a handful of air, Hagiwara Kenji blinked. Why did Morofushi-chan give him the sniper rifle?
