Chapter 17
Silencing the Witness
Shi Yi woke up from her coma. She opened her eyes and looked at everything before her. Prince An was sitting beside her, and seeing that she was awake, he was overjoyed:
— "You're finally awake!"
She looked at Prince An, remembering what she had seen while unconscious, and feeling a bit dazed, she asked:
— "Who is Murong Qing?"
He was filled with doubt and replied:
— "He is the Heir Apparent. Why? Why do you ask this?"
— "It's nothing, I just suddenly remembered hearing that name somewhere."
Only now did she understand the current situation: "That wasn't a dream just now. Perhaps these are the memories of the owner of this body."
Seeing her lost in thought and silent, Prince An was a bit worried:
— "Are you alright? You suddenly fainted while interrogating Wu Wenhu. The Imperial Physician was summoned and said you were overexerted, leading to physical weakness, and need rest."
— "Are you worried about me?"
An Dinglun hurriedly denied it:
— "No, I'm worried that if I don't treat you well, your sweetheart will make things difficult for me."
He replied with a hint of provocation in his voice. Who exactly was he annoyed with?
— "Sweetheart? Are you talking about the Eighth Prince?"
— "Who else could it be? He has already claimed you as his future consort, hasn't he?" — Prince An's face clearly showed his displeasure.
Seeing this, she suddenly burst out laughing. He asked in confusion:
— "What are you laughing at?"
— "You've always been cold and quiet, not saying more than three sentences to me. But why, after meeting Wu Zilin today, have you become like this? You even argued with him, not acting like a prince at all."
He blurted out:
— "Isn't it because of you? All day today you've been clinging to him, ignoring me."
She asked blankly:
— "Huh? Because of me, what?"
An Dinglun suddenly realized what he had just said and intentionally avoided the subject. She still didn't understand and asked again, her curious eyes fixed on him:
— "Why is it because of me?"
An Dinglun didn't know how to explain; even he didn't understand what he was saying. Seeing the situation was awkward, he stood up and said:
— "You're awake now, so it's good you're alright. I'll be going then. I'll have someone bring food later. Remember to eat well, or people will say I'm mistreating you."
After saying that, he walked straight out the door, his heart also in a tangle, leaving Shi Yi inside still confused and not understanding what was going on.
But she didn't think much of it. Looking down at the arm injured last night, she gently removed the bandage Prince An had used to wrap it for her. Strangely, when she took it off, the wound had already healed, as if it had never existed.
Resting her chin on her hand, she wondered: "Strange, how did the wound heal so incredibly fast?"
After thinking for a while, she suddenly understood: "In my past life, as a professional assassin, I could use certain special abilities, the most prominent being self-healing. According to the original owner's memories, she didn't have this special power. Come to think of it, when I escaped from Prince An Manor and was saved by Sister Lin Ling, my injuries also recovered after just one day. Therefore, there is only one possibility... this ability followed me through the transmigration."
This reasoning was quite logical and convincing. She nodded in agreement, partly due to her detective intuition. Transmigration was already a bizarre thing; one more illogical thing didn't matter.
She turned her eyes to the table, focusing on the portrait from earlier. She understood the issue. "It's him, I'd recognize him even if he turned to ash." Yes! The masked man was none other than Murong Qing. Having grown up together since childhood, every look, gesture, and action of his was recognizable to the original owner. Suddenly, she realized something: "Could it be that Princess Taiping's death is also related to him!?"
In another place, in the Heir Apparent's room, he was sitting leisurely on a chair. His guard, Liu Qinglan, rushed in from outside.
— "Heir Apparent! Something is wrong!"
He asked calmly:
— "What could be so urgent to make you so hurried?"
Liu Qinglan panted, trying to regulate his breathing before replying:
— "Wu Wenhu has been discovered, and furthermore, he was captured by Prince An."
Murong Qing's expression immediately changed, and he grabbed the guard's collar, shouting:
— "What did you say? Say it again!"
— "Wu Wenhu was caught; he is currently in the dungeon of Prince An Manor."
The Heir Apparent released the guard, clenching his fists in anger.
— "Useless! A bunch of useless fools!"
Then he turned to Liu Qinglan and said:
— "Clean it up immediately, leave nothing behind. We absolutely cannot let An Dinglun find any clues."
— "As you command!"
The guard received the order and left immediately.
A moment later, a group of people of unknown origin disguised themselves and infiltrated the dungeon. The leader was none other than Liu Qinglan. They signaled to each other with their eyes, silently drugging the guards before heading straight for where Wu Wenhu was being held.
Wu Wenhu saw them and his face lit up with joy, thinking they had come to save him. When the cell door was opened, he said happily:
— "Why did you take so long? I've been waiting forever."
Liu Qinglan gave a cold laugh, drew his sword, and pierced it straight through his heart. Fresh blood spread across his chest. He fell to the ground, spitting out a mouthful of blood, looking at Liu Qinglan with eyes filled with both confusion and resentment.
Liu Qinglan leaned down and whispered in his ear:
— "The Master once said, a useless person deserves to die..."
Just as they were about to dispose of the body, the Northern Guard on patrol rushed in. With no other choice, they had to flee.
